    The trouble with "just okay" windshields, is they dump turbulent air around the helmet and neck. If people want to listen to a roar, earplugs or not, just get a windshield that pushes the air pressure up around the neck and face.
    Full face helmets are best so long as the air is at upper chest and head is in clean, unmanipulated air. Otherwise buy the largest barn-door sized windshield possible that will shove all the air well above the head at speed. But you won't get any cooling under the helmet then.

    • @SmokinMonkeyOG
      @SmokinMonkeyOG  5 лет назад

      Agree with you it’s not fun when you have all the wind shovelled at your head. Personally I rather have nothing then a big ole windshield that just takes away from the styling of the bike.

      @@SmokinMonkeyOG I had a National Cycle medium sized universal windshield on a former 2007 SV650. Adjusted that thing every way I could possible. Ran it a while. Eventually just took it off. I was more of a rookie back then and didn't have extensive knowledge or experience with bikes. I was amazed how much quieter my head was, how much smoother the airflow was, and how I didn't feel bothered at speeds up to 65 mph with it off. I just ended up selling on Craigslist at the time. Another thing I noticed is the mechanical noises from the intake and chain drive and transmission were reflected off the inside of the windshield and directed right at my head.

    great review and you tube channel. I bought one and totally agree with you . Quality product fits easily and I like the way it looks. With the bike naked the wind is evenly spread around you but with the Givi it directs the wind and buffets your helmet and arms. I tried it on a motorway journey of 300 miles at 60 to 70 mph and it was hard work. I m in the UK. I bought the bike new this year because its a naked bike and so I think its better to just accept it for what it is, a fantastic do anything ,good looking , quick enough in the real world if your honest bike.

      @SmokinMonkeyOG  5 лет назад

      Thanks man! And ya I don’t see myself using this long term after I’m done my full review but I’m glad I’m not the only one that has experienced the buffeting on your helmet. Other than that I agree it’s an awesome bike and people shouldn’t buy a naked bike thinking it’s going to ride like a touring bike. Ride safe out there man!

    I don't like the aesthetics... I love the minimalistic, naked appearance of this bike. If the screen were more effective I'd probably consider it from a purely utilitarian POV, but for now I'm removing it from my wishlist! Looking forward to the long-term review though!

    Hey man, I reckon the new screen looks ok, I’ve enjoyed to date watching all of your videos, as you don’t come across as s Mr know it all, rather you just present your thoughts and always ask your audience what they think. That part is cool. What I like better than your other videos is that you aren’t just wearing gloves, as in zero arm/ upper body gear/protection. For me the riding gear is paramount, I would never consider driving a car without seatbelts, same for a motorbike. Regardless of weather or distance at a very minimum I’d be wearing hrlmut, gloves, proper boots, denim jeans and a leather jacket as a minimum. A longer, faster ride than hen it would be something much more specific like a one piece Dianese race suit. Keep up the great work man, love your stuff and I owned a SV650 brand new in 2000 (which was just a toy for me) but it fit and did everything just right without being pretentious. After listening to all your reviews, I might just buy a new one to add. Hopefully you are getting some support from Suzuki as I did in the 90’s. All good!

    Thanks for your honest opinion about the actual wind protection part. Many people also expressed opinions about adding windscreen for naked bikes, saying that it's not easy to get the good one for exactly the reason you mentioned.

    • @SmokinMonkeyOG
      @SmokinMonkeyOG  3 года назад +1

      A lot of people also complain that you don’t need one on a naked bike and why would you buy a naked a bike and put a windscreen. Simple. The bike styling has nothing to do with how you are going to use it and having a naked bike doesn’t mean you can’t use it for long trips and high speed cruising. This is where the windscreen really shines. Once you get out on long rides it helps you ride longer with less fatigue.

  • @ws8080
    @ws8080 Год назад

    Personally prefer the Givi to your other one. But it's true that a naked SV650 should have a cafe style small fairing/screen (like the SV650X) or nothing at all. I have no screen on my SV or my old Bandit 400 - they are naked bikes after all.
    And of course the wind hits you in the neck/head with this kind of short screen - that's what it is going to do because of very simple physics. But if you are hitting the curves/track/etc. then tuck in and go for it.

  • @Khronokai

    It stops the parachuting effect, and after riding a bobber long distances for so long I didn't notice the wind hitting my helmet, I'm sure it was, I just didn't feel the need to tuck until much higher speeds than usual.

      Who wants their SV650 to look like a touring bike? If you want a touring bike, buy that instead. It's a naked bike. BUT I don't mind a small fairing or screen that fits with a cafe/naked theme. This particular screen looks correct. His OEM fairing is meh.
      And yes the wind will hit you in the face/neck with a small screen - that's what it does, deflecting the wind that would hit you in the chest to your head or neck depending on your body height.... but you could tuck in like a sport rider if you wish to. Otherwise, just ride it naked. I have this bike and another naked (old Bandit 400) and don't care whether they have any screen at all.
