    Being someone who was deeply committed to climbing for 25 years, that was a total pleasure to watch. The quiet passion and humor is so familiar.
    While I can only stand back in awe of the talent & dedication that Hazel F (let alone Alex H!) bring to the game, it took me straight back to the essence of why I and friends spent every spare moment climbing.
    Jeez, am I really too old to go climbing again ?!

    • @simonkemp156
      @simonkemp156 10 лет назад +3

      Nate Trent "thus this is fake" - oh, really? Why would I would want to pretend I'm an old climber? Wish I were a young one again. I used to climb a bit with Hazel's father but never met her at the time - doesn't bother me in the slightest if you believe that or not. I just thought it was a very well made glimpse into climber mentality and felt like saying so.

    • @Rainbowstunting
      @Rainbowstunting 9 лет назад +3

      Geoff O'Neal The rockfaces they climb usually have a grade accompanying it which is a indicator of the difficulty. Honnold is known for his bold climbing of routes he knows he can do and has done before. These are not at his absolute limit. When he tries hard for something with a rope or when going bouldering he has not reached the grades plenty of other people have reached. Atleast 60 people a year reach the 9a/5.14d treshold which Honnold has never done. The same goes for bouldering, 8C has been done quite a few times but I don't know if Honnold ever got above 8B. So yes, he is a very talented climber who surely understands his limits and body, but he is by far not the best.

    • @philomath369
      @philomath369 9 лет назад +4

      Geoff O'Neal not using a rope makes you better at climbing in my book. when climbing without a rope you are unable to lose focus, you will fall. Climbing with a rope, you are able to lose focus, the rope will catch you. It takes more skill to keep focus for HOURS on a wall, i mean think about it, when have you ever kept your focus on somthing for longer than 10 minutes? Simply put this guys brain is wired differently than ours, and he has a high level of skill in being able to focus and keep fear out of his mind. Alex Honnold is fucking epic man, a damn good free solo climber.

    • @Rainbowstunting
      @Rainbowstunting 9 лет назад +4

      philomath369 Not using a rope does not make you a better climber. He only climbs stuff he is sure about he can do without falling multiple times in a row. I have also done a few highballs that I could've broken some bones with those were all much easier than what I am capable off.

    • @philomath369
      @philomath369 9 лет назад +2

      Rainbowstunting he climbs stuff he is confident he wont fall, he never knows for sure if he will fall or not, and climbing a wall for hours on end without a rope, without falling is amazing, is all im saying. climbing style without a rope will be different than with a rope, so we shouldnt really compare the two.

      pigjubby1 The way you speak about the vid shows you clearly do not see the determination and effort required for what they do, and as such probably have never ''tried'' so hard, or you would recognize it, and that you're probably a bitter person complaining, like all the others, saying ''rich people can do this, I can't because I'm not lucky!''
      What arrogance? You speak out of your ass and belittle athletes who pretty much live to climb, and are probably training, thinking, dreaming and speaking of climbing all the time.
      Most (most, not ALL) climbers are far from rich (by my and probably your standards), and you would know if you bothered to check a bit and not talk out of your ass like that.

    This is a really well shot video. The Musandam is a great place for adventurers and really close to where I live in Dubai, only 90mins by car. It’s been popular with climbers for ages and DWS has been going on here for at least 9 years. There’s a great guidebook to the whole area including the DWS, which was published about 5 years ago but expats have been DWS here long before that. I noticed that no one mentioned this in the video. There is a lot of readily available information out there, if you just look. They should have got in touch with the guys who pioneered this area. The village of Sibi, where they did the long climb, is really close to a popular tourist and cruise-liner port at the town of Khasab. Most of the DWS is done off a dhow (an Arabic wooden boat) rather than the gin-palace these guys were on, though many people circumnavigate and explore the Musandam by kayak and surf-ski. There’s even an adventure race here that’s been running for several years.
