    IM VERY SORRY THIS VIDEO WAS NEVER COMPLETED DUE TO LOSS OF FOOTAGE. THESE ENGINES ARE SIMPLE. BIG ISSUE I HAD WITH THIS CHAIN KIT HAD A CRANK TIMING LINK PAINTED WRONG. IF YOU SET CAMS AND CRANK IN TIME. LEAVE 0 SLACK ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAM AND CRANK SIDE. ALL THE CHAIN SLACK ON TESIONER SIDE. YOU DONT NEED TO WORRY ABOUT CHAIN MARKS! THINK OF CHAIN TIMING AS BELT TIMING. DOESNT MATTER WHERE THE CHAIN LINKS ARE. IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING. YOU CAN DO IT.

      Boss man!!! Im assuming the noise you heard was timing chain tensioner failure? Beint i realize 6months ago u posted this. This 2010 at the time had like 149k miles if my memory is good... and had 0 noise. But was called to replace the kit at 100k. So we did it. But it did have 02 codes. 0 noise. Chain done. O2 code went away. And yes theres actually a 2.4 timing chain inspection you can do by pulling just the cover. Stand by. Check your bell icon if you havnt done the job or if ur still needing any help. I rarely look at comments. And keep forgetting im the first bs ytber to post a video a of a half assed job. Did both frames. And timing chains for this customer. And broke the phone same night. Any questions if u own this 07-11 jeep. Or caliber. I can get u all info. Will be posting the inspection deal and @u it

      $%@& them jeeps dude. Absolute trash. Chrysler wouldnt take the sub frame recall for this jeep both FRONT and REAR sub frames were rotted to heck. Because it fell 22 days after its extended warranty. I ended up replace front sub frame. Rear subframe and all rear suspention componets. Including timing chain. This chain passed the wear indicator test. But was showing wear. So we replaced it also. THIS JEEP IS JUNK AVOID IT AND THE DODGE CALIPER AT ALL COSTS!

      Couldn't agree more! Bought one 6+months ago that passed safety with flying colors, now needs timing done. called 2 different mechanics and they ghosted me and the one retired lad that diagnosed the problem sad he couldn't lift the motor to even access it and said Chrysler is junk I'd be better of driving till it dies than putting any cash into it.. then there's the gas consumption.. #*&@ all Jeeps!

And timing chain/water pump. $500. HE PAID me labor of maybe 400$. Id coach u thru it via email to get face time shit to step by step u. If need be. Live to help. Hey, hello, how much would I expect to pay for a job like this? Thanks in advance

    • @CBR_Engines
      @CBR_Engines  10 месяцев назад +3

      Depends.... whats the shop hourly rate. Is it a mobile mechanic? Is this being billed by hours. Or gonna be a set bill? Avg id assume ur looking at $100 for a timing kit. Probably 400-$800. I charged 300 for this guy. But im also not a shop. But in the long run i can do these timing chains in these jeeps avg 3hours. So if ur being billed more then 5 hours. Your being ripped off. Cause this was the first time i done this job. And it took me 3 hours. Very easy job. (Tricky to set timing right tho so could have a first attempt to start and it wont. Usually caused by being 1 tooth off. Which is not dangerous to the engine. It just wont run. And would need to be set in time properly. Hope this helps. But in reality ur gonna pay based on who where and when u get it done. Theres really no set price.

      Replace the chain. Theres a out spec inspection marking in the timing cover. Google it. Its actually cool how chrylser had a method to measure chain wear for the techs at the time.

    • @CBR_Engines

      If not. Pull valve cover again. Look down to the piston on the tensioner. That pushes the guide. If u see a line. Ur chains on the way to death. ruclips.net/user/shortsbqwQOLi2_SM?feature=share

    Got a leaking timing cover on my patriot. What kinda sealant is needed? This thing isnt using a gasket for the timing cover is it?

    • @CBR_Engines
      @CBR_Engines  25 дней назад +1

      @mikemater hey boss if memory service me right. It's a rtv gasket. You'll need to buy permatex oil based rtv. Scrape all old gasket. Light bead. Look up how to do it boss 100% a 2hour deal for you. But there maybe a gasket. It's a Mitsubishi 4b12 engine just so you know.

    • @CBR_Engines

      @mikemater my vid shows you all that comes out to get to pulling cover. Block of wood under pan. Floor jack. (Once wood/jack are touching the pan. Do 1 full jack up to apply pressure up. This prevents stripping mount bolts.

Common reason is overheated from a coolant leak/pump/thermostat... id replace all of the parts i listed and inspect for coolant leaks

    Hey man did you make a video on how to remove the timing chain?

    • @CBR_Engines
      @CBR_Engines  2 года назад +2

      To remove the timing chain. The timing cover on. With crank pulley on has a 0 5 and 10 markings. Theres a notch on crank pulley. Set tdc with this mark before you take the engine timing cover and crank pulley. I have linked everything in the description on timing. My phone ended up getting broken the day after this video was recorded. Also the first part you should remove to pull a chain is the chain tensioner

    • @CBR_Engines
      @CBR_Engines  6 месяцев назад +2

      Sorry i lacked info. To remove chains. Pull tensioners. Then guides. Once guides are gone. You will have a cam jump but thats normal. Best to take a socket to the intake cam. Back it a lil counter clock. And gentely let it go where it wants. Chain comes out.

    How did you determine it was time to do the chain? By miles, or inspection, or something else? Thanks.

    • @CBR_Engines
      @CBR_Engines  2 года назад +1

      Chain should be replaced every 100k miles. Or when you hear them tapping. Misfire codes can be caused by timing being out also.

    • @phillippardo5712
      @phillippardo5712 2 года назад +1

      @@CBR_Engines Correct me if I am wrong but I thought only timing belts needed to be replaced around every 100,000 miles. And I thought chains are only replaced if you are having symptoms of a bad chain.?

    • @CBR_Engines
      @CBR_Engines  2 года назад +2

      @@phillippardo5712 my friend! The timing guides are PLASTIC. Timing belts ALL should be replaced 60-80k miles. (Most OVER head cam engines with timing chains wear. Every single link has a pin. Those pins will wear out the links holes. Making them oval causing chains to Wear out (not stretch) belts strech. Easy way to tell if your timing CHAIN is worn is by looking at how far the chain tentioner piston is out. Also these 2.4 jeep engine chain tensioners have a wear indicator for the chain. Theres a notch on the piston once this notch is out and you can see it. Trust me. Replace it. Timing fails. Your engines toast. 70k on belts 100k on chains. You follow this. You WILL NEVER HAVE A TIMING FAILURE! NOT TO MENTION I COMPLETED THIS TIMING JOB IN 5 HOURS AND FOR UNDER $300. WHY NOT REPLACE IT EARLY. ITS CHEAP AND PEACE OF MIND. PLUS JEEPS SERVICE MANUAL STATES 100K MILES THE WATER PUMP AND TIMING CHAINS BOTH SHOULD BE REPLACED.
