    This movie and its relationship to the Zodiac persona are discussed in The Zodiac Revisited, Volume 2: Analysis and Fact-Based Speculation.
    This film is the 1939 installment of the Charlie Chan series in which the world-famous detective travels to Treasure Island and, with the help of the San Francisco Police and a reporter from the San Francisco Chronicle, does battle with the evil Dr. Zodiac.

    Great classic flick! Shame that so many of the younger folks have ditched these for the modern "in your face" movies that just lack a certain quality that these older movies have, it's one of those undefined qualities that is difficult to put a finger on to describe.

      Films of old that could stand on plot and even acting...not staged death-defying stunts, sex, or offensive language. And black and white offers greater camera work for atmosphere. I teach film studies in h.s. The kids are always pleasently surprised.

      @@dawndubsky4641It’s true.
      Movies back then relied on real strengths. Even if some had outlandish plots the films still had charm to help suspend any disbelief. Modern ones…very very very very few have that.
      It’s real shame. I just turned 30 but have watched Charlie Chan movies after I discovered them while watching old Sherlock Holmes movies here on YT. This was back when I was like maybe 25ish. Never looked back :) Wish I had discovered them as a youngin but oh well 🤷‍♀️

      Yes and isn’t it incredible how these old movies can convey emotions to us while still fully clothed, and can deliver each word of their lines clear and concise. It’s amazing how well everyone could understand everything just like the Writer, and Director strove for. But the most important point is this,,
      Not one foul swear word had to be used so us simple folks could truly understand the impact of the characters and their pain ha...

    I've seen all the Charlie Chan movies since 1929, and this one is by far the best. Best plot, best writing, most complex plot where everything fits together without an error. Other Chan movies might have had bigger attendance, do to on location shooting (like Charlie Chan and the Black Camel), but this is the best.

    I actually enjoyed them believe it or not. Most of the kids back then didn't even really know who Charlie chan was, unless they actually watch them with their grandfather or their great uncle or something like that. I prefer watching these over any movie or TV show of today. Charlie Chan was like when the greatest actors of all times and his new leaves were great. I do miss watch them on television every Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

In the obstetrician's waiting room I looked nothing like an on-site granny, I looked like everybody else, in fact a lot younger than some 22 and even 19 year olds. The baby at birth rated a 9 out of10 as to health and properly functioning parts etc., and within a couple of minutes he rated 10 out of 10. So if you're over there at 32, thinking glumly that you're OLD or you feel or look OLD, it's a LIE, it's stealing from you, please just think about that. Bless you, Dear. I truly believe the real reason that charlie chan movies are seen as racist is the depiction of mantan moreland as birmingham he and stepin fetchit who was in c c in egypt and willie best in dangerous money were obliged to portray blacks as cowardly ignorant superstitious and undependable by the studio heads and directors. Offensive no doubt but they all made money and careers doing what they had to do to get paid and certainly paved the way for other black actors like james earl jones ossie davis roscoe lee browne and sidney poitier to be more realistic in their roles

    I've always loved these Charlie Chan films- they instill a comfort level, what with his no. 1 and 2 sons, along with Charlie, always so elegantly attired for sleep- satin, robes.pajamas, not to mention Charlie ALWAYS gets his nutrition (usually via room service) and of course a full nights rest. Normalcy in these areas.

      @101Volts Год назад

      No, Charlie Chan was the beginning. Mr. Moto showed up around the same time, as a result of Charlie Chan's success. There were 44 Charlie Chan movies released from 1931 - 1949 (4 early ones are lost.) Mr. Moto had some success too, with a total of 8 films released from 1937 - 1939. You're right that WWII put an end to Mr. Moto films, though.

    really a good movie. all puzzle events flowed together perfectly. the writing, the direction, and the actors were wonderful. Sen Yung was a perfect number two son.
    i think Ceasar Romero had an overbite - he hid it very well and probably had it corrected when he had the money cause he had perfect teeth. i saw him in person once in the L.A.area. i don't know why, but every time i see a film or TV 'star', they seem to glow - it's so weird. i wonder if Charlie Sheen did? LOL
