My first car at 18 also in 2004! Ran like a champ! Had to give it up wouldn't pass smog :( if it did I'd still be driving it. I was planning on restoring...
Also - great to see the Tercel love. The first-generation Tercel is one of the simplest, most problem-free cars you can buy. No nonsense, the only power control is the brakes, no power steering, no power clutch, very basic, very intuitive and user-friendly. Would that I could get Toyota to make cars like these again.
I can't help it. Just love them. I have one for 20 years now and it's just like an old friend. Manual choke, ignition and it runs. Always, whatever, forever. And it rust always, forever... ;) But so simple and reliable.
If I could find one of these I’d buy one today! Back in the day I found one of these that was a hatchback and after gathering all the wheels around the property I gave them $200 put in a battery and a quart of oil and it fired right up. I drove it for 4 years.
My family had one while i was growing up. It was a 82 white 4 door with an auto tranny. Thats what my mom would drive to take us to school and to just get around town. we had it for about 3 years and it was really good to us. Not as nice as yours but damn reliable!! After we got a 1980 corolla in pretty good shape. Just had a problem with the ignition as i recall. Then we got an 87 tercel wagon. All where great lil toyotas!!
Hey I recently just got my hands on a 1981 toyota tercel. Can you show me how you have your alternator hooked up? I'm having trouble with my charging system.
I loved this car too.... I'm glad you enjoy the video. Unfortunately I do not own the car anymore I couldn't get it to pass smog and I couldn't afford to get a newer engine for it. It hurt me so bad to get rid of it especially when it ran perfectly. Hopefully I'll find another one someday when I have space and more money.
@@vemg aww man that really sucks it was a nice Tercel. I would have definitely considered buying it off you. With these older cars I would do a full blown tune up along with a carb rebuild. Oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, pcv valve, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points if it had them, o2 sensor if it was cheap enough and a cheap carb rebuild kit. It's about $120 bucks worth of tune up work but as long as the egr works and cat it good this always worked for me. And even though you think your car is running good, after you do all this it's amazing how much it changes. I really want one again. Doing regular maintenance like this it's what kept cars going back in the day. everything nowadays is so boring and extremely expensive
william george lopez, junior unfortunately no I had to part ways with it due to smog regulations I spent so much money trying to get it to pass till eventually I tapped out :( I would've still had it if it weren't for that...
This was my 1st car in 1990. I was 18 yrs old and it ran like a dream!
