Reacher is the man's last name. The character in the show is based on a series of novels. He's "special" in the sense that he is an extremely beefy physical specimen, insightful investigator, and adept survivalist. But the character isn't supernatural or alien in any way.
After watching the first two seasons, his comments alerted me to the fact he hates people like me. I don’t consume products made by people who detest me.
Unfortunately, that means most "celebrities" at this point. So, so many. Sure would be nice if they just kept their traps shut about social and political issues.
Tom Cruise is an amazing actor, and honestly I didn't hate his performance in this role. But you're 100% right, he just doesn't have the physicality for this role. Alan Ritchson NAILS it!
I don't think so. It might be toxic if he was using his gym muscles as some sort of Ersatz masculinity, but he doesn't. It's not written that way. He's gigantic and beefy af, but it's not about that. He's a skilled investigator and accomplished fighter, and the muscles just sort of accentuate the intimidation factor. Personally, I applaud the actor for having the physicality to fill the role true to how it was written in the novels. Nothing toxic about it!
After reading The Midnight Line, we need a bigger person than Alan Ritchson for REACHER. Find someone personal that is that person. I like Ritchson but he is not big enough. Reacher never worked out so we are not looking at oversized muscle-big. Really, can you describe Ritchson as "bigfoot" with the hands the size of dinner plates?
I love how people keep saying reacher mthe books is this big and that big the character is fake, not based on a real life person So he looks better in season one in season two he look like a total freak sorry
Way to miss the point. If the author described the character in a certain way, film and television adaptations should depict the character in the same way. No one ever said this was a real person. For example, the Tom Cruise version was entirely wrong specifically because the actor looked nothing like the way the character was described in the books. As for him being physically stronger in the second series, I don't really think it mattered all that much. People sometimes get more fit than before. Sometimes less. It happens. It's not an issue.
Adding to the above comment... Yes, he's bigger and stronger in S2. A lot of people don't like this because they think it's unrealistic, steroid-based, or whatever. But the reality is that this sort of physicality is what the author of the novels described. In the books, there are some female love interests who are really into his insane physique, but the other 97% of the stories don't focus on that. His size, strength, and skill are plot points to help the reader visualize what a monster this guy is. Alan Ritchson does an amazing job of emulating the story, whether or not we think it's sexy. Most people don't fantasize about The Hulk, for example, even though that character is also unrealistically muscular.
Bulky, yes. But not roided out. Steroid abusers often have an unnatural distended appearance, especially in the abdomen and hips. Alan's physique is definitely gym-grown bulkiness. I know that many people aren't fans of that physique. Chris Hemsworth's wife famously opined that his physique during/after _Ragnarok_ was "just too much", and that's fair enough. But what isn't fair is to assume that extreme beefiness implies drug abuse. More importantly, if you've read any of the _Reacher_ novels, Alan Ritchson in S2 is basically exactly as described: 6'4" (ish) and 250+ lbs (193cm, 113kg), solid muscle. It's totally understandable if people don't find this build attractive, but it IS 1. accurate; 2. strong; 3. intimidating; and 4. great for this role.
@@AS-pug I didn't say that either. I just said he doesn't look roided out. And I know from first-hand experience that it's very possible to achieve that size naturally, especially when it's literally your full time job. @ first of all, you can see he took steroids, not just the size, look at his face. Typical sign of roids. Secondly he admitted to using TRT. But he’s obviously taken other stuff. Look how much older he looks in the face between season 1 and 2. Looks 10 years older. That’s sign of roid use.

Close. He's 6'4" or 6'5", and about 250 pounds, in the books. The actor is trying to emulate the character's description in the source material. More importantly, he IS strong. Yeah, I'll agree that his muscles are mostly show, but even show-muscles tend to be significantly stronger than your average person. He's probably pound-for-pound less strong, but empirically more strong. Strength and muscularity aren't strongly correlated but they're unrelated. Look up "Anatoly gym prank" to see someone who is stronger than most people but isn't walking around like some anthropomorphic bubble-wrap. He enjoys humbling gym monsters who "look like" they could suplex a train (reference my pfp). That said, the fact that Alan got "really big" for this role isn't because he wants to prove anything, it's because that's how the character is written. The fact that he is able to emulate that physicality is admirable.

Bummer this actor is a leftist.

Bummer that something like that matters to you. Poor little MAGGOT.....
