Пісня - це душа українського народу, в цих колядках можна відчути душу українського народу. Вони зазнали жорсткого та авторитарного поводження. Ми повинні зробити все можливе, щоб допомогти людям боротися з росіянами
Song is the soul of the Ukraine people, these carols you can feel the soul of the Ukraine people. They have been subject to harsh and authoritarian treatment. We must do all we can to help the people fight the Russians

I feel like every Ukrainian Family I know is either the great-great-great grandchild of a Ukrainian, or they themselves were born there. I feel like I’m the only one who falls in the middle of the spectrum. I’m fully Ukrainian, but my grandparents moved to the US in the 40s and 50s. I grew up barely speaking the language, but still connected to the culture. I grew up with the food, music, and etiquette. I’m so glad I got to learn my grandparents culture, but also the American culture as well.

Hi! How's this one for you? My father's paternal grandparents immigrated to the USA from Lviv in 1896 and 1908. My grandfather (their oldest) was born here. Ukrainian was his first language. But, my dad was given up for adoption, and adopted by a couple of Scot-Irish ancestry. So, even though I am only a third generation American on that side, I don't know much of the language. But, I have always loved the food and culture. I have only known about Dad's biological family since I had my DNA tested in December 2017.

Jersey2tall86 During the Civil War my dad's paternal side fought on both the Yankee and the Confederate sides from Tennessee. His mother's father was Civil War Yankee from Allegheny, Pennsylvania. I probably had other ancestors on both sides. Look at the divided Ukraine today, just like before WW I - there was political murderous violence that caused my grandparents to come to America. My mother told me that if you answered the wrong side to the person at your door step, you could be shot dead.

My Mom met my Father's Aunt as a little girl, I have a photo - and yet my parents met and married in Toronto. They are both gone, I live in Paris and love these carols. My Father's last name was Filip. He was an officer in Poland after the war. During he was in Divisija. I am hoping to find a half-brother I have never known. Born late 40's - early 50's. beautiful music, a pretty good translation of "Mary, did you know", though Pentatonix has the superb version of it...not exactly related to the koliadky, but Ilya K. was absolutely correct about "russian" belonging to Kyevan (Kiivska) Rus, not to confuse with today's Russia which used to be Moskovia till Peter 1 twisted the history, stole the name and history from Kyevan Rus and gave them to Moskovia for political reasons... French historians and scientists, travelers like engineer Boplan have the records of life in Kyevan Rus vs Moskovia...languages are similar, but koliadky/Christmas carols belong to present day Ukraine (former Kyevan Rus)...

I'm reading Gates of EU by Sergei Ploky. It's pretty cool how some famous people came from the URK steppes as a result of the railroads in Sevastopol, Crimea.
industrialization meant longer lives, longer lives meant less farmland per person.
Barbara Streisand's grandparents, Jack Palance's parents, all were part of this migration.
the resilience of these people for centuries is aww inspiring.

May our Lord introject Peace and Good Will between Ukraine and Russia. 1 Timothy 1:3-6 3 As I urged you when I went into Macedonia-remain in Ephesus that you may [a]charge some that they teach no other doctrine, 4 nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. 5 Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from [b]sincere faith, 6 from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, 7 desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.

God bless Ukraine, exquisitely Beautiful Christian music and Ukrainian language- read Hans Boland (linguist and historian) about Ukrainian being a Slavic mother tongue (which is why it is so much more lyrical and clear than Russian - which is a mutt of five other languages, mostly Ukrainian -NOT the other way around; same goes for the culture ) Kievan Rus is the original kingdom in 988 under St. Olga and St. Vladimir - who were Ukrainian CATHOLICS, not Russian, even though they and their religion were euphemistically stolen by the moscovians. And to that point, the schism wasn't until 1054 - there was no such thing as the Orthodox religion - and certainly not the ongoing hegemony of russian orthodoxy. And they refused the Union of Brest for the sake of politics. Ukraine under St. Vladimir is the FIRST kingdom and country in the world to be consecrated to the Mother of God. As Patriarch Shevchuk recently said at the 1030th anniversary of "the Baptism of Ukraine", it is the Catholic faith that has persevered even communism, carrying the one true Faith generation to generation, even when others gave in to the godless state; and the Mother of God WILL defend Ukraine as she keeps the Faith. Where the successor to Peter is, there is the true Church." (the one to whom Christ gave the keys to His only Church, against which hell - be it communism, the Holomodor and the slaughter of the Catholic Ukrainian Martyrs - will not prevail. The Catholic Church gave us the bible, sacraments, culture, music, tradition, education and law... Ukrainian Catholic University, shut down by the Russians until 1991, is the only Catholic University in 12 time zones- what were they afraid of?; and it just made us stronger!) Glory to Ukraine, to Christ ,and honor to His Mother, from whom the beauty of art, music and architecture find their home))Now, where's the playlist? God bless Lviv, Ukraine, Ireland and the USA (enjoy the javelin anti tank missiles and destroyers in the Black Sea we sent) We'll get Crimea back by prayer and sacrifice, but we must keep the Faith)) Christmas music reminds us of who Love came through to save us.

At one hour twenty-five, an Black American carol, “Mary Did You Know?” Christmas carols are found in all Christian cultures, except probably Muscovy where indigenous culture almost eradicated by Kremlin.
