Single Styler Showdown -- Curl Cream Edition

- Ok soooo thing video was two weeks in the making! I have had the itch for a long time to test out my stylers all on their own to see how they perform as single stylers. In this video I am testing out Curl Creams! I am keeping as many of the variables the same as possible. I am using the Strands Hair Care shampoo and Conditioner as my base. I am applying all the stylers with the glaze/rope/scrunch technique. I am plopping with The Perfect Hair Care Towel. And I am diffusing to 90% dry; airdrying the rest of the way. Anyway, here are the results. Which one was your favorite?
Disclaimer, No one needs this many products. EVER! I am aware that this is EXCESSIVE! Playing around with hair care is my hobby. I am not really into shoes, or clothes, or purses etc. But I do enjoy collecting hair products. This is just meant to be a fun experiment and hopefully it is helpful to you to see all these products compared side by side

I agree. Actually the more I try to do to my hair the worse it looks (not Courtney's fault, probably just suck at the techniques). But I love to watch her anyways. Also would love if I could convince her to do my hair for me lol.

Yes to the winner's washday! Also, thanks for this -- I find the sheer number of different kinds of products overwhelming so to see the curl cream on its own helped me understand when I might want to include it in my routine!

Hey Courtney, I would love if you did a video on curl fall out and ways to prevent that. I have tried so many things and my hair looks great at the beginning of the day, but falls out and is frizzy by the end of the day
I've been using only curl cream to style my hair for a few months now so this was a great video! So far my favorites are Hawaiian Silky 14 in 1 miracle curl activator cream which surprised me bc it contains mineral oil but doesn't make my hair feel greasy or heavy, it's what I used in my profile picture and I love it but switched to Cantú hydrating Avocado curl activator and I've been loving it too bc it gives a bit more hold while not feeling heavy. I've tried the original Cantú and it felt a bit too heavy and stiff for my liking even though it defined my curls all day.
I have coarser and curlier hair than yours but I'm gonna add the Mielle cream on my list to try bc I love the results it gave you.
What a great idea for a video! I like the semi-scientific approach. I'd also love to see a wash day lineup with all of the winners. :)
I would love to see something about styles and how to style without just being down. I often need to have my hair up for work, but I want it to still look cute and curly!
That AG curl activator is bomb, I'm on my 2nd tube. I am stocking up before they discontinue it, just because that's what hair product lines do.

Moroccan oil styling cream is my favorite, it’s a good dupe for devacurl styling cream too.
This was fun! Recoil is my go to in winter with 0 moisture in our air!

You should try the Eva NYC Rock a wave curl cream. Its glycerin free and has protein!
But I don't think its curly girl approved :(

I liked that product, but for me, it wasn’t thick enough or have enough hold for my hair. But it is an awesome product for others!

I haven’t used the rock a wave cream, but love their Gotta Bounce cream and it’s definitely CGM approved. And smells so amazing!

I think the #1 that made your hair look the most voluptuous and beautiful was, Confident Coils. #2 would be Mielle. What I learned from this video so far is, I think it may be a waste of money to buy expensive products. There doesn't seem to be enough of a difference to warrant the extra price in the end. My curls in the back got really stretched out in the back. I started using Sugar Beach Spray from Kenra. It helped so much. I started using the Sugar Beach cream and I haven't quite figured out how much is the best amount to use, but I think it works well enough that I don't have to refresh on day 2 other than the side pieces that stretch out overnight in my pineapple.
I started using the rope method of putting in gel and it helps the curl clumps for me so well. Thank you for that video.
I love the My Soigne cream! Because it's protein free, I like to add a couple of pumps of the Simple Planet protein elixir 😊
I LOVE AG Recoil but my hair is thick, coarse and I just use a small amount. I will always use this one.

I actually really appreciated this video!! I feel like my hair reacts better to creams so this was nice to see.
I started out the first major part of my journey using gels because that’s all that’s really shown and talked about. I never found any products I loved until I tried just a cream randomly because I had a lazy styling day and was SHOCKED by the results.
Wow, that was a lot of research!! Thank you. FYI my hairdresser has me mixing Innersense Curl Control with their I Create Hold Gel in my hands together after I already applied the I Create Volume Gel and wow!! Best waves and curls EVER.
I think it would be cool to compare all the DIY stylers too!
My favorite cream is not even marketed to curls, the Khiel’s Creme with silk groom. I use that and a foam in my hair in the fall and winter because it’s so moisturizing but it uses lightweight ingredients and has a good amount of protein in it. I use it in my son’s straight hair too and it makes his hair feel so soft and healthy.
Pacifica’s Pineapple Swirl curl defining cream is the only way I can get my waves as shiny (or close to) yours 😆 and it smells delish

LOL. I’m not a one and done when it comes to styling products. It’s interesting to see how the products work in your hair, however, as a coarser textured wavy a cream alone doesn’t do much for me. I really like LUS for soft fluffy waves but if I want hold I need gel. I’ve only tried the curly formula though. On that note, they’re coming out with a fragrance free version of their products and I’m so excited!!!!!
You should try the curlsmith hold me softly style balm! That's their cream. The weightless airdry cream (weirdly enough because of the name) is actually one of their leave-in conditioners (along with the moisture memory reactivator)

I’ve been enjoying the Curls Creme Brûlée cream. It holds great!
I feel like I can't just use 1 cream or styler in my hair for a wash day. I have so much frizz I feel like I need a gel or something with a stringer hold to help minimize that at the beginning. I have very fine low porosity hair. I also workout every morning before work so it is difficult to find a good refresh routine 😔

Hi Courtney! I use Moroccan Oil Curl Defining Cream and I layer Ouidad Advance Climate Control Heat & Humidity Gel over that. I haven’t checked to see if those are CG-friendly but they work very well for my fine, loose curls.

I love the Jessicurl Spiralicious Gel along with the Gelebration Spray but the Confident Coils didn't do anything for me, irrespective of whether I used it on its own, with the Gelebration Spray or the Rockin Ringlets. It was a big disappointment, so I am happy I only got the travel size. The Spiralicious Gel is a miracle worker though 😊

You should try the Briogeo curl charisma rice amino avocado cream if you like protein. It gives very nice structure to the hair :)

GREAT video! When you do a moose video I have discovered a budget-friendly moose that is awesome "herbal essence totally twisted curl boosting mousse." Light, but GREAT hold. I use the mousse, gel, mousse method.

I've been so excited for this! I have the Treluxe creme but haven't been able to try it yet as the dew points are still a bit too high where I live.....can't wait to test it out!
Great video, I've been looking forward to this one! I try to do similar experiments on my own hair, but like you said it's hard to keep the variables truly the same due to weather and likelihood of getting over moisturized or something (and I don't wanna wash every day haha). Looking forward to the next in this series, and you should definitely do a "winners" lineup (or any lineup you have reason to believe would play well together)!
