BIO:
Gouache is a new medium for me and I'm finding water-based paints to be quite humbling! It's like pouring water onto the table and trying to force it into a perfect square. Not going to happen.
I'm a self-taught artist, learning every time I pick up a brush. Journey with me as I attempt to disrupt perfectionism through daily art.

Thank you for subscribing and I’m glad you found the review helpful 😊 🎨
This was really helpful, thank you so much 🤗🇬🇧
I’m so glad! My pleasure 🤗
Thank you for the recommendation!
You’re welcome!
Blues and cool colours are notorious for being more streaky and less opaque, so it’s the pigment's fault😊
Love the Caran d'Ache; I've been using them for a long time and that company always stands for quality. Never tried the Himi, and probably never will, they look like they would be quite messy to work with 😂
Btw. You can remove the tray holding the Caran d'Ache pans and you'll get even more mixing space on your palette! That's at least how my palette works, wich I bought ages ago. It used to have another design, but yours is prettier. Love that strong red!
Thank you for your insight and tips!
I had no idea certain colors react differently. I always thought the warm colors felt “creamier” but I figured it was in my head 😂
@@longformstudio Not at all in your head! Yes, warm colours are usually less streaky. It also depends on the differnt pigments, or the amount of fillers. Expensive watercolours and gouaches usually don’t have any fillers in them, and the cheaper they are, the more they tend to become chalky, pale and less brilliant. If you’d like to try out more professional gouache paints I’d recommend either Schmincke or Winsor Newton gouache. You can buy a neutral yellow, a cool red and a cool blue plus black and white and see what different results you can get with professional gouache compared to the cheaper ones. :)
I ordered a Winsor Newton watercolor set that I’m very excited to try! Now I’m going to pay special attention to consistency and texture 👩🏻🎨
@@longformstudio Yay, good for you! :D Hope you will like them as much as the student quality paints. They definitely are a step up. Have fun with your experiments!
I’m gonna get me the caran dache one for Christmas! I’m sold!
I hope you enjoy it!!
Hi, I grew up in Switzerland and we used the Caran d’Ache palettes in art lessons at school. I still have my set from back then (90s) and it still works. The nice thing about this is, that you can get refills. However there is no more variety than the 14 pans. I remember they used to have a white in the pan form as well, but that doesn‘t seem to exist anymore. It never really was good anyway, so I guess they decided to get rid of it and just add the white in the tube.
I love that you still have your set from the 90’s and that it’s still kicking! Amazing!
I had a caran dache box since my teens, around 1975. I love it. Compared to the box we got at school, the quality is much much better! I wonder if I can get refills?
Hi - I believe you can buy individual guache cakes/tablets!
Yes you can, unfortunately not more variety than the 14 colours in this set, but they sell them individually. :)
awesome review! and can i point out the fact that you are absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you for the compliments. Glad you enjoyed the review!
