Would of been great if you would of put it on the GPS and then stand on the property to see what it all looks like put together. By the way great vid. Learned a lot.
I overlaid the property lines using county GIS data onto Google Earth and then did another jpg overly from a survey showing the survey irons. Now I know the actual coordinates of the survey irons. Getting a bearing from one to another with a compass is not easy as the land is so overgrown. This way a handheld can take me to a survey iron no matter how crazy the route I take.
That works pretty good, just make sure the image file is a jpg. I made the mistake of using a png file and had to do it over. Garmin maps only recognizes jpg..
Keep in mind that this is only as good as the 3d quality of the GPS you're using, not suitable to get a pinpoint position of your corner. At best its sub meter accuracy. Call a surveyor if you want to know within an inch.
We had a survey done and have all the coordinates. We bought a Garmin 66s. My question is how do I input these coordinates?? Hoping you know how! I thought I could figure it out. But I’m not having much luck.
I have no neighbors and the land cost us close to nothing. I'm not building anything, especially near the borders so I'm going to trust Google Maps and the local property GIS markers to mark. I've got the GPS coordinates, but when I tried to mark them with my cell phone it was not finding them correctly. How much better would this Garmin be than my Android Cell phone? My counties GIS is great but for some reason their coordinates readings are in the two standards anything understand.
Don't buy Garmin! My has never been used rough, actually carry it in my first aid kit. Changed the batteries before starting an excursion. opened the back, removed the batteries, the little door and the map chip did the sproing thing, never to be seen again. Garmin says it is from mis-handling and will require replacement, and then the chip is not under warranty (like the unit is?!?!) Bottom line spend your money on a good cell phone avoid Garmin!
Jesus Christ. Just import a kmz or individual kml for the whole friggin county. Some counties are bitchy about releasing the kmz. 1 hour to locate a kmz vs 10,000,000 hours to approximate a prop line with this neanderthal method.

interesting i will give this a try
The disclaimer means something. You are in violation of law in most states. Get a survey.
By the time i do all this I could have walked over the property three times.
GIS means GET IT SURVEYED!!!!! You are likely within about 40ish feet with your coordinates.
can i overlay a google earth picture from 1 year to a newer year?
"And once you type that into google your function is going to pop up" - no. No it doesn't.

Not everywhere will there be cell service. I have learned that at the time I needed most.
