Victor “The Principal” Hlungwani breaks down two flashpoints in the 2024 MTN8 final: the goal Tshegofatso Mabaso scored from a free-kick and one by Lehlohonolo Mojela from a throw-in.
2. Procedure
All free kicks are taken from the place where the offence occurred, except:
indirect free kicks to the attacking team for an offence inside the opponents’ goal area are taken from the nearest point on the goal area line which runs parallel to the goal line
free kicks to the defending team in their goal area may be taken from anywhere in that area
free kicks for offences involving a player entering, re-entering or leaving the field of play without permission are taken from the position of the ball when play was stopped. However, if a player commits an offence off the field of play, play is restarted with a free kick taken on the boundary line nearest to where the offence occurred; for direct free kick offences a penalty kick is awarded if this is within the offender’s penalty area

The ball:
must be stationary and the kicker must not touch the ball again until it has touched another player
is in play when it is kicked and clearly moves
Until the ball is in play all opponents must remain:
at least 9.15 m (10 yds) from the ball, unless they are on their own goal line between the goalposts
outside the penalty area for free kicks inside the opponents’ penalty area
Law 13 does not end there. There is a part where it brings exceptions

Pirates second goal should have never been allowed. Taking the freekick 10 meters closer to the goal, effectively eliminating 3 defenders in doing so is clearly gaining an unfair advantage. Ref should have called him back, even after the goal was scored.

So it's ok to disqualify pirates goal but it is not ok do the same to stellies after their throw that was taken way far from where the ball went out...and resulted in a goal....I am puzzled here Mr hlongwane...😂

My problem is this, as professional players,we were told never to back any ball especially a fowl against my team..what were those three Stellenbosch players complaining about to the referees rather than looking for the ball to make sure it wasn’t taking faster? This is genius play by the Orlando players,they are street wise two there..fabulous,they switched off ! Can’t do that..we saw Man City walker complaining he wasn’t allowed to get back to his position before Arsenal took their free kick that led to a goal,partey saw the chances and took it,VAR never interfered,Newcastle against Arsenal,ball completely out of play,willock took the ball,crossed into Arsenal 18 and a goal was scored,referees,VAR said no conclusive evidence that the whole ball went out…that is the joy in these games…players must be aware and switch on at all times…referees these days are messing up so good players are taking advantage..You aren’t the only guys playing lotto,Hollywood or betway,referees are doing it by proxy too.
