Man ! My favorite traditional irish band ever! Loved you guys since the 90s when were all young and frisky. Winnipeg folk fest me and my pals dances so fancy and free ill never forget . Cathy you make my cry with your beautiful vioce goddess bless you three times over for your dedication to your craft ❤
Been to Dublin in may 2004, invited by Paul and Maggie Biggs ... slept at her Grandma's little house in Ringsend, spent nights at Temple Bar ... Porter House, Oliver St John Gogarty and all, met Peter Carberry, Allie and their friends, discovered Johnny Fox's restaurant, had fun with little Paulie in the tiny park, watched the ducks in the Liffey, early morning light : best moments in my life until then. Few years later, went to an Irish pub in Paris (yes i'm a froggy), listened to the band playing Irish music ... ended weeping like a child ... Hey friends : i'll never forget you ♥
I once had the rare privilege of holding Cathy Jordan's beer while she signed my copy of Dervish's "Live at Palma" CD at Irish Fest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Seeing Dervish is a joyful treat. They always put on a wonderful performance.
That’s the first full length novel I’ve ever read on Utube. Pity it’s out of context and boringly long winded. Keep ur cult criteria to urself, it’s about the music here!!!
I haven't seen this video since I made that last comment from 2019. It was a terrific show in Berea, people dancing in the aisles including parents and their wee ones. Got to talk with Cathy, and she was delightful. Signed the CD I brought with me, her solo "All the Way Home." A night to remember. :)
I love this session so much!I saw Dervish live in Sidmouth last year and they were amazing. I got my copy of Harmony Hill signed and (as you can see from my profile picture) had a photo taken with Cathy. She really is a delight.
Very interesting to hear that the music is driven by the fiddle and the flute. I'm somehow more used to tin whistles and bagpipes. And Cathy's style of presenting is different and nice too! She viciously playing the bodhrán, wonderful!!
I had a wonderful time seeing Dervish live here in Northern California last night. What timeless and beautiful music! If you get the chance to see them in concert don't let it pass you by.
“What it means to be authentic: - to be more concerned with truth than opinions - to be sincere and not pretend - to be free from hypocrisy: "walk your talk" - to know who you are and to be that person - to not fear others seeing your vulnerabilities - being confident to walk away from situations where you can't be yourself - being awake to your own feelings - being free from others' opinions of you - accepting and loving yourself” ― Sue Fitzmaurice
Kathy is an exceptional excellent singer of Irish Trad songs, and if she does not me saying a lively woman. At least that was my impression having met her in the Burren a number of times, after those wonderful Dervish concerts in the Somerville Theater, Somerville, MA.
In 1969 at the advent of the"troubles" in the north, I had A weekend job tending bar in an Irish bar an grill. I had immigrated fom north central Tenn after my discharge from the Army and I knew little of what it meant to be of Irish decent. I fell in love with this and all things Irish, can,t get eough of it. curraheered.
AS far I know, having 15 or 20 % of Irish from Sligo , north Dublen , family, but I love all music from Ireland, having Inka and portuguez and Germany for mom, love Hrap, violin, Flautes, I ahve at home, trompet, piano faluta etc, from kids,, etc..
Picked up Dervish's "Playing with Fire" CD years ago when I was in Ireland. I had asked the guy in the music shop if there was some Irish music a bit less commercialized than "The Chieftains" , and this was what he put in my hand. Now, before Chieftain fans get all fluffled, I do own a couple Chieftain discs, including the one that has the cool version of Behind Blue Eyes with Roger Daltry. : )
to really hear irish music you have to visit ireland, especially the west coast, from top to bottom. i have loads of spanish friends here who would never believe me until they did eventually go, & then cry out 'why didnt i go sooner'? almost any decent pub will have live music. i have travelled the world & i believe that no other race lives & breathes music like the atlantic celts. same here by the way, in galicia. its one of the few things i miss about 'home'....
No entiendo el idioma pero esta música me llega hasta los poros de la piel. Por cierto, la voz de la cantante es indescriptiblemente dulce y cautivadora. Gracias.
I don't watch many RUclips videos more than once, but I can't get enough of this. After taking a perusal of Irish music RUclips videos, I think Dervish is going to be my favorite group. It must be the 33% Irish in my DNA. :) I also prefer these performances taped in the pubs rather than the big state performances. It seems to be more appropriate and homey.
+Randall Moon I couldn't agree more. There is nothing like live music in an Irish pub, my favorites, Tig Coeli in Galway, Gus O'Connor's in Doolin, Matt Malloy's (owned by Matt Malloy, who is one of the Chieftains) in Westport. The quality of the music is astounding. And you can purchase a decent Bodhran for around $110. They vary in terms of the depth of the drum.
Oh she is young in this, as are you all Ha, ha. Thanks for your awesome music Dervish! Your flutist - as well as everyone else - is absolutely amazing. I am a very big fan! And - ah well - an old fart now.
Looking forward to seeing Dervish in person at Berea College, Kentucky, about 100 miles from where I live. They perform one night, March 14th, 2019. Maybe we all could go out afterwards for a pint.
The piece that ... well, I didn't catch its name but it's in full swing at 21:00 (aha--"the Hungry Rock"?) ... is one of the more magical pieces I've heard in this type of music. Ranks with the strange beauty of Maids of Mitchelstown or The Blackbird or The Butterfly (Bothy Band) or maybe Barde's "Jenny's Rambles" (look this up ... I can't find it on the 'Tube, but I believe it's a person's birth-to-death set into a tight instrumental ... okay, it's not as ethereal as this present tune, less subtle). This is gorgeously played. One comment is I wish they'd show the bouzouki player more--entire Hungry Rock, even when the bouzouki and mandolin were only playing, they showed only the mando...
T love the way she moves her hands and body to the music,,,she becomes the music,As Yeats said,,o brightening glance,,,,how can you tell the dancer from the dance,It is a miracle of grace,Sinead O Connor at her best did exactly the same thing,Is if because women live in their bodies more than men can live in theirs,,,or is it that music and song are organic and feminine,,,like pregnancy and breastfeeding,,,life itself,I suppose thats why folk music is greater than classical music,,,closer to life itself, Victoria de los Angeles singing Albanez Four Aztec Songs is truly great,,,but then the Aztec songs are folk songs,,and Victoria is part gypsy,Music and song,,like religion,,,must be female in origin Blame Ms Cathy Jordan for this not me,,,she is the muse,As Plato suggests in his dialogue Ion it is the music that possesses the writer,,,the writer is only the vehicle for a higher truth that the music embodies,

Whew! We were having a good time 'til you got all kind of, well, angry and uppity. I play the bodhran, have been to Ireland four times and heard it pronounced bow-rawn, bo-rawn, ba-rahn and some other ways I can't spell by folks with a wee bit too much of the poteen in 'em. My experience with Irish pub folk is they are not too heavy on the technical stuff, they just enjoy the music.

I met Cathy a couple years ago! She said "You're the palest Floridian I ever did see.". I'll never forget that. XD
haha, that's funny.

I just saw them live, tonight, in Palma de Mallorca. They're about 25 years older but it just doesn't matter. They're so good ^_^
They are even better now!
We saw them just before the pandemic. Awesome! If they come by your area get out and support them!
Saw them a few days ago! Voice like an Irish Angel!
She will always be beautiful to me and sing like a lark. She gave her life to the music. The boys are the best alive.

First time hearing a stor mo chrois. I can’t stop listening. I’m absolutely mesmerized
Saw them in the Burren, Somerville MA two nights ago. Excellent. Cathy Jordan still in great voice after all these years.
I was there too. They were outstanding!
I saw them perform in Florence, Alabama, back in 2004. I was a student and just went for something to do. I've listened to them since. Love this band.
I love Johnny and Molly. The inflections in Cathy's voice during this song are beautiful.
such a lovely voice, i listen to Cathy over and over again. :)
Just great timeless music! Love that version of A Stor Mo Chroi 🙂☀️

I've been to Johnnie Fox's! Fun place, if a bit far south of town, set in the rolling hills... Highest pub in Ireland!
First saw Dervish live in 2016, now my favorite Irish band. Snorin' Biddy-o is now my favorite Irish song too! Slainte!
What a great interesting band.
Their music stirs my blood.
Listening and watching Cathy is a rare pleasure. ☮️♥️🇨🇦
I had a wonderful time seeing Dervish live here in Northern California last night. What timeless and beautiful music! If you get the chance to see them in concert don't let it pass you by.
where in norcal did they play?
Introduced to Dervish during a heat wave in Canton Massachusetts best time was at THEBURREN BACK ROOM wild
Dervish for me are hands down the kings of Irish music. The melodies and instrumental structure they arrange is something else.
I think that this video together with the Vicar Street's concert of Planty are the history of irish music!
Freaking gorgeous!
So heartening to see the traditional music carried on, and so soulfully done!
I love this band. And my God, how Cathy was beauty!!!!
Great music~ What a sweet, innocent voice she has!

It’s 4 years on Sue but still as true and profound!!
DERVISH - that's the music! From Poland With Love!
She was a real beauty! Still is.
A very good Irish folk band. I saw them the other day & fell in love. Great iRish music from the past & great memories of Ireland.

@Roy Chandler what does that have to do with Irish music
@@UpBirr1 Why you care ?
those eyes right before I pressed play are what brought me here. she's too gorgeous to say no to.

Me too! but it's the music that kept me
Exactly, I want to marry a gal like that!!!

Do a DNA test. You might surprise yourself and find that you have some Irish or Andalusian in you.
Hahaha, I promise to do the DNA test. Thank you. :-))
Great concert footage of Dervish. One of my favorite bands. Hoping one day to see them live. :)
Love every minute of this.
Thanks for uploading! I can't forget them in 96' Ortigueira Folk Festival
So odd to see all the people smoking. Times have changed. Seeing Dervish live tonight and greatly looking forward to it. Great craic.

Sweet. I still have this on VHS. Sans the player.
Thought so... THEIR IN A PUB! I've been to many feises (Irish dance comps.) with them playing in a pub
Sue Sellman A feis is simply a festival, involving all areas of musicianship, dancing, agricultural skills, etc. A feis is not a dance competition.
grandissimi!!!!!!!
grreat for the dervish i would had up an electric base
look at yis, yis were still great then...
Cathy is also a skilled guitar backer :)
Why do I feel like dancing?
This music just makes you dance❤
good music to smoke my Peterson pipe to,thank you Mike
Can we order their CDs online? Their music is too good.
