I did a video of the pc version of ddp resurrection a few years ago, it was a really awful clear of the first loop without really even knowing how to play the game. I now own the pcb so I will be going for a 2all of that game next year. Stay tuned.
Really inspiring stuff. I feel like my progress has stalled a bit. I've made it to the TLB like 3 times now but each time it's with the same number of resources left after limping through 2-4 and 2-5. I really gotta improve there!
I'd just drill the tlb over and over again with save states until you got it 100% memorized. I don't think there is any rng except for the final pattern which you can completely skip if you do a shot bomb then laser at point blank range. The 2-5 stage itself proved much more of a problem for me and basically my solution was just to learn where the nasty parts were and bomb them if it even slightly looked like I might die. Pretty sure I cleared the tlb the first time I got that far but I did practice it a lot and I still dropped a life mostly because I had no bombs and that sweeping pattern is the hardest one he does by far imo. I totally get that it can be demoralizing dying that far into a run but you just have to keep trying and eventually it will happen. Good luck!
This was the game where I realized a fork had been driven into the road. I prefer the more “epic” style games like Gradius or R-Type. I also always found vertical shmups to be a challenge. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve got some kind of mental block with the format, save some exceptions like 1943, Life Force, The Guardian Legend, and Image Fight. I’m trying to get better, though. I’ve downloaded Blazing Lazers and the Soldier series for my Wii U. I figured why not start with some of the best? I would love to get through Donpachi like this, though. I really love the look and the sounds of the game.
I still cant find a rip of that Operator voice lines While some of the Operators on later DDP games is iconic on their own, this one cemented the identity of the series to me. At least, i want to switch out the Operator on SDOJ with this one. As a final homage of sort. *Here's hoping someone gonna do it in the future*
In donpachi you must destroy enemies within .5 seconds of the previous one that was destoyed to extend the chain. Lasering on large enemies while they are alive does not extend the chain timer like in the sequels. It's very unforgiving but it also doesn't screw you over for the whole stage if you miss a smaller chain like in dodonpachi.
Some games also had minor glitches in Free Play like Ketsui, so a number of people actually wire a button to be a dedicated "insert coin" button on their cabs.

I used to prefer horizontal Hames as well until I got more into arcade games. Now I prefer verts.

I don’t know the scoring intricacies of DonPatchi but why do you drop your chain in places that look like it could have easily been extended?

Why can't set your cabinet to "Free play"?
I could set the pcb to free play but I like the sound of the coins dropping. It's more like the true arcade experience.
Oh, I thought it was because of restrictions.
