A Sherman IIA for an M4A1 with the 76mm M1 gun and a Sherman VC was a M4A4 with the 17 pounder.
I thought the A2 is where they changed over to the flat faced front hull to get rid of the shot traps. Looks like the front of a standard M4. Obviously not the radial engine so I think that would be one of the Sherman III’s the US made for the Brits, No? I could be wrong. I’m no expert.
@@M50A1 no, the A1 had the cast hull with radial engine. The A2 had the Diesel engines with flat welded hulls. The A3 is the V8 engine and favored by the US army, same hull I think. A4 is the five engines put together and is for the British

Their variations would have another 'life' in the IDF. Eager for arms... the new state of Israel would 'paw through' the junk yards of Europe (early 50's) looking for military tanks that could be taken back to Israel, refurbished and re-purposed. In films of the 1967 Six Day War you will see a few of these in use. Finally France (for a while) would become Israel's principle arms supplier. However, many WW II surplus 'goods' would appear again in the hands of the IDF as France handed off its remaining U.S. Lend/Lease 'stuff' to Israel... as well as selling new French arms to them.
@@darkwarrior860 the only version that looks a bit different armor wise is the A1 with the cast (rounded) hull. The differences between them are related to power plants (radial gas aero Wright, diesel twin GM, v8 Ford GAA, Chrysler multibank that required a longer hull design), suspension types (vertical or horizontal volute), track width, wether there was a dry or wet ammo storage, turret design and gun sizes. So the "same" Sherman could be a very different animal from version to version.
@@Xyleksoll in fury the tank chasis used was an m4a2 chasis. You can tell this because of the Flat sloped armor on the front. There are no portrusions on the armor plate unlike the tank you see in this video. He may have put the m4a2 powerplant in this Sherman but it is still just an m4 chasis
The twin diesel is probably the best power pack the Sherman had. The big Ford V8 is cooler, but the diesels would have been drop-dead reliable. And loud, very loud.
Amazing how clean, orderly, convenient and easy to use the interior is compared to soviet tanks of that and even later era
Not many vids of M4A2, that Detroit Diesel 6046 sounds really nice, great job.
I drove trucks in the states with similar Detroit diesels...love the sound
@@danschneider9921 so have i. and worked on several too. Dual 671 detroits. There are still several of these engines working everyday

A working and driveing pice of history :)
Nice. I wanna be in a Sherman one day!
I love the British Sherman’s 😍
Superb, just superb.
Good Work. Good Video.
I whant to see this with a german Tank
U.S Sherman crew dont wanna run into a Tiger. The U.S tanks are better looking tho.
Wow thats a loud engine
How can you hear the enemy like that ? 😀 and the enemy would hear you comming from a mile away 😁
Best job I never had 😢
I thought most English M4s were m4a4 with the multibank Chrysler gasoline engine? Did the Brits get any M4a2 through lendlease?
Yep
6 CAR (1st Hussars) landed on DDay with 2 squadrons of M4A2 and 2 squadrons of M4A4

All the welded hull M4 variants had very similar fronts, the only difference being the engine decks

Are you sure this is M4A2? M4A2 has a different forehead, and the hatches do not protrude
Older ones had the hatches like that. Also note the dual tachometers, since two engines.
It's 2 geared crankshafts 2 1 engine. Also A2 means diesel and unless your deaf it's a Diesel.
