the problem with displays like this, despite them saying it isn't true, they give the impression that they aren't arsed. and that's a dangerous thing. ok they won the series, thats a really good achievement, but losing by 423 runs is pathetic. the bowlers looked exhausted, they batted 34 overs 1st innings FFS! we're so obsessed with the ashes in this country, so how exactly do they think the bowlers will cope down under when they constantly bat with such complete disregard for them!?
I think Cameron seems to have forgotten England had a blow out in the second test in Pakistan too. Not sure this is just a "final test of a series" pattern. It's four of their last seven tests
They also lost the last, second-last, third-last and fourth-last Tests in India. Definitely not a 'last test of a series' pattern. Also, they won the last Test of the Ashes last year. I also think that the media probably, and players certainly, are trained to forget these things..
Bazball needs to figure a way to play for a draw if the circumstances demand. It can be the difference between a series win or loss next year against India and Australia which are over 5 Tests
The attitude with this England team is infuriating at times. Pope and Duckett’s dismissals were embarrassing on another scale. It doesn’t have to be highest highs one game and lowest lows the next, sometimes they need to find a middle ground.
this is the problem with England batting the way they do, Australia took 40ovs to reach a hundred on a green surface at GABBA against really good pace bowling and really toughed it out to then be able to reach 400+ as when the pitch flattened out there scoring rate increased and they had wkt's in hand. England don't seem to be able to do this and its a real worry., Woakes bowled really well in 2nd test so why drop him? if you want him on the plane to Australia then he was just starting to show improvement in overseas conditions, and If he's not going, why the hell did they pick him in the first place!! its just lost chance for someone else.
This series is a paradox. I dont think either side solved any of their issues. England still have a spinning problem, questions over crawley and stokes. NZ have half their team over 32, and play only 2 tests in 18 months
In most circumstances you don't need to create time in the game - very few games even get into day 5 these days! This England team need a real shake up so they wake up, open their eyes and smell the coffee!! Their heads are so far up into dark places about being "entertainers" and "this is how we play" - utter nonsense and I fear that at the end of this year we'll have been found out by India and Australia unless we start playing in more context appropriate and sensible manner! It might win them the occassional game playing like this but against good teams you'll lose more than you win because they'll do something special occasionally but make a hash of it more often - just imagine how the series would have gone if NZ had actually held their catches! This series win flatters beyond belief!
The other question mark must be the captain himself. No runs, often too injure3d to bowl, and I don't think he's the smartest tactician. Not a Brearley. That's 5 question marks. I do like the younger emphasis which implies the team has a future, not a past like the last team. 9 and 8 for the year though does not imply any sort of consistency. Definitely work in progress.
I cannot agree with the idea that England are better now than they were in India. 4-1 did flatter India but England did OK. The way Anderson, Leach, and Foakes in particular have been shown the door, despite not doing a lot wrong, is poor. I do not, in my heart of hearts, believe Potts, Stone, Bashir are better than them. Since then England have beaten West Indies 3-0, beaten Sri Lanka 2-1, lost to Pakistan 1-2, and beat New Zealand 2-1. Truth be told, they should have won every Test. But in this series if you didn't know better you'd say New Zealand were deliberately throwing it - handing Bashir a bunch of cheap wickets on Day 1 then dropping everything on Days 2-3.

Thanks guys. O'Rourke's bowling was a revelation in this series. Hope we get Sears back and fit and fast too; that would be crazy!
Where's George

Yep! If they didn’t have that ‘we don’t play for draws’ mentality they would’ve won the ashes
The attitude with this England team is infuriating at times. Pope and Duckett’s dismissals were embarrassing on another scale. It doesn’t have to be highest highs one game and lowest lows the next, sometimes they need to find a middle ground.
Will George be doing this again in future?
Think he said on Bluesky he’s off until the new year

Crawley and stokes? Don’t you mean Crawley and pope?
@@alextv293 Stokes as well. His fitness is dodgy and he plays one decent innings out of 5, at best.
