@@tonys-travels-2023 No ,they cannot . If a person is engaged in lawful activity and the police approach they have no right to press themselves on you once you make it clear that you do not want to talk to them,no more than any other citizen can. For a pleasant change she is rescued by colleagues who do understand who you are and what you are doing so she toddles off back to the 'safety' of her lair!, I wonder if she feels hurt that they did not back her up or relieved they got her off the hook?.

Since when was the law, and the enforcement of the law, 'up to the discretion' of an individual Police officer ? - Either a person's behaviour is illegal, in which case they MUST arrest you, under their duty to uphold the law, or it isn't, in which case they only arrest you if they witness you committing a crime during their investigation as to what you're doing, and why you're doing it. Otherwise, they detain you ONLY for the purpose of gathering information to determine if you've either broken the law already, or if you're LIKELY to break the law, but only for as long as is necessary to establish your intentions. The terrorism act can't legally be used/abused for the purpose of detaining anyone acting suspiciously, although in London, it most likely is, very often. Also, the terrorism act can ONLY be used against you if the Police 'reasonably believe that you're a terrorist', and this is not open to interpretation or opinion by a Police officer. The terrorism laws were changed and updated in 2018, after a case involving a member of the public, who was only recording a stop and search of a suspect by the Police in London, and the Policemen didn't want to be recorded. They fought the case very strongly, but lost, even going to the trouble of appealing several times. Only after all legal options were exhausted, did the Police accept the judgement of the court, but it seems that they've since decided to only choose to obey the laws that serve them, and ignore all other laws that protect the rights of innocent people in the UK. After establishing that you haven't committed any criminal offence, they should let you go on your way, unimpeded. However, like the typical bullies that they are, they're not willing to give up their power so easily.

The face nappies remind me of old Western movies. Cowboys would wear them to protect against dust or being identified when robbing a bank. Wonder what their reasons are

"Hostile reconnaissance" in the middle of the day, in broad daylight, in full view of anyone who is there. 🙄

He said he will not assist. What a contrast between the police officers :)

What is sad is that public civil rights shouldn't be strange or unusual to the public servants the government employs.

It’s so unusual that the Chief constables sent a circular to all police stations saying “Hey Peelers leave all Auditors alone” (boom town moment) so they ignore their directives

    Sir Robert Peel's Policing Principals
#7- To maintain at all times a relationship with the public that gives reality to the historic tradition that the police are the public and that the public are the police, the police being only members of the public who are paid to give full-time attention to duties which are incumbent on every citizen in the interests of community welfare and existence.

She said it herself I didn't know until her colleague told her it's legal to film, but she still overstepped her authority and operated outside of the law

Her justification for an illegal detainment and ignorance of the law is shocking. If you're a cop and unsure of certain laws then don't make a fool of yourself and then make excuses.

I get TOTALLY TOTALLY peed off when PLOD insist on saying 'You Can understand why'...................... No we can't understand. No one is breaking the law and so you have no right to bully nor expect us to understand when your feelings are hurt.
