Headline should say “rider climbed restricted fence and struck by rollercoaster, inconveniencing everyone else.” It wasn’t a roller coaster accident in the sense that the ride or operations were faulty, but of course the news media loves to sensationalize everything.

He had to have climbed a fence! Those restricted areas are locked off and there is no way to open the gate. The only way this could be on Kings Island, would be if the gate, for some reason, did not have a lock on it. If it didn't, the ride should not have been running! Speaking from experience as a ride operator at another park.

@@FrankDaBank25 that case is unprecedented tho.
This accident isn't. This happens every few years, so its something the parks have adapted to. The fences have gotten higher and the signage more explicit. Most of the signs literally say "Risk of Death" on them now. They are prepared for the legal ramifications as well.
To answer the original question, this ALWAYS happens because someone lost something on the ride (cellphone, keys, etc) and thinks they can retrieve it by jumping a fence.

Actually how brainwashed do you have to be by the fake news not do your own research and realize thousands of people do this year thousands and thousands and they’re fine! 26,000 people flood through a park a day at one park potentially that’s just one park OK so you should do your own research before you wanna make dumb comments like this because guess what thousands and thousands of people climb the restricted area every single day and get their phone and their keys and they’re totally fine, the Bible says, take the plank out of your own eye before you take the specs out of others
To all condemning this man bc he made a dumb mistake, how many times in your life, especially in your teenage years did you make dumb decisions, whether it was driving drunk, whether getting in the car with somebody who is buzzed whether it was watching someone get bullied and do nothing about it , cliff jumping , to even swimming in ocean drink ..,,,, bc they don’t tell u HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE MAYBE THOUSANDS DO WHAT THIS MAN DID AND LIVE AND ARE FINE ….. SO DONT U DARE GET ON THESE COMMENTS and act like ur God and can judge him , yes it was a stupid decision but he was young and no one let me repeat no one deserves loss of life from a dumb decision,,… you don’t know what type of person he was. He could’ve helped the poor. He could’ve helped the needy. He could’ve helped veterans. He could’ve helped disabled. You don’t know what he did in his personal time so to act like this is rightful judgment for him to die from making a stupid mistake is pathetic on all your parts because no one is different person
whatever the case maybe WE ALL HAVE MADE STUPID POTENTIAL LIFE COSTLY DECISIONS IN LIFE ESP BY 30!!!!!!’
Don’t u dare forget , we are all one dumb mistake away from death or jail or even our dumb actions affecting our kids , do you know how many negligent parents I see nowadays walking down a main road with their children that are toddlers like 30 feet in front of them when they could run out in front of a cart any second OK all the time …and nobody and let me nobody is above defying death if it’s ur time
So how dare people act like this man deserves this death or something , ur sick !!OK this is disgusting. This could’ve been any of us because we all have made dumb stupid decisions, irrationally, and impulsively in the past every single person on this chat has so repent to God if ur on here and passing judgements throwing stones at him for a dumb decision as if ur like ur Jesus ! News flash ur not ! But you might want to pay attention to the Bible because the higher you judge others the more God’s gonna judge you!

Work at a theme park myself. There are only 2 ways to get into a restricted zone. Someone doesn't lock the gate behind them while entering or leaving. Yes, maintenence sometimes has to enter while the ride is operating to observe a possible problem. But they are well trained and know exactly where to stand. Or a guest climbs the fence. Guests are amazingly stubborn and stupid when they loose an item. This is why all ride operators are trained to scan the restricted zones every time before dispatching a ride. It can be difficult at night particularly if a guest is dressed in dark clothes.
Ultimately, its not worth the danger you put yourself in if you loose your glasses. They will be smashed.

If you choose to ignore the warnings, and cross into that area well that's on you. Let's face it it's fenced off for a reason. And if you can't use a good judgment and good common sense, then maybe you shouldn't be in those parks.

Odd... if u light up a cigarette in the park u will have 10 park guards on u in seconds... where were the park security when some idiot was able to walk into a restricted area.

Most of the time security appears because they were called by a staff member or guest. In the situation the man must’ve bolted out of the fence not giving security enough time to get him. Plus a ride operator that day said that the man went back in the line and then hopped the fence right after. This would not give security enough time to get the man before he was over the fence.

You’re overestimating the amount of security at the park. They aren’t monitoring every inch of every restricted area fence, and they cannot feasibly do so. It’s reasonable to assume that someone wouldn’t do something this incredibly stupid. He didn’t just walk in, he actually jumped a fence (maybe more than one) which all had “warning - extreme danger” signs on them.
