- More info about travel to Venice: www.ricksteves.... Among Europe's churches, the Byzantine marvel of St. Mark's stands alone. After the saint's remains were smuggled here in 828, Venice took his symbol (the winged lion) as their own. Built with pillaged materials, some describe the church's eclectic style as "Early Ransack." The outside is a riot of domes, columns, and statues; the interior is covered with mosaics, colored marbles, and oriental treasures. #ricksteveseurope #ricksteves #venice

Thanks for sharing this historic building and statues
Amazing video as always Mr. Steves. You forgot to mention that the horses used to grace the Hippodrome in Constantinople.
All that marble and sculpture on the facade of st marks is the result of Venice’s shameful participation in the 4th crusade, where they sacked Constantinople and either destroyed or looted just about all of its artistic treasures
Thanks for sharing! Excellent! Thumbs up # 17
This is the tomb of Alexander.
I've got to say, Ubisoft did a great job of making an incredible accuracy of detail in Assassin's Creed 2.
Got to sing there with my choir when we traveled to Italy, also got to sing in st. Peters Basilica
Hahaha - "early ransack." Hilarious!
Lol
This place is absolutely beautiful. I have been there in October of 2018!
Thanks so much, a real treat for an armchair traveler..
Why are statue noses broken?🤔
