Good stuff. I used to watch airliners fly overhead on that LGA approach all the time as a kid, just a couple hundred feet over 23rd Avenue and the GCP. Thanks for the memories.
Always liked coming into LaGuardia. Seeing the Mets stadium, Arthur Ashe tennis facility & the Worlds fair remnants. Not to mention that big Apple for a backdrop. I recall coming in from the coast in 93 & flying past the trade ctrs @ the same level as the top observation deck & seeing the people look like ants enjoying the view. And we weren't but a half mile or so away.
Couldn't imagine "Sully" landing like this with a jolt & he landed softer on the water. Anyway, it's a good feeling being in the air but I haven't flown for a long time now.
That's because it's very strict protocols with three major airports in close proximity and both runways at LaGuardia are quite short at only 7,000 feet each! Not a lot of room for error.
This was a straight in approach to 04. KLGA's runways are 7,000' long. Let that sink in. The wiggle room you have at LGA is essentially non-existent. As a pilot you don't have any room for errors. Landing too hot or too long can put you in Flushing bay. The airport's reputation as demanding complex approaches with short stopping distances is well deserved. This was not an E175 that you can grease on and exit the runway without even employing reverse thrust. It was a "7-3" and the PF knew he wouldn't get any points if he buttered the landing. Land a 7-3 at LGA 10 times and chances are all 10 will be pretty much like this. And, yes, the landing was like a "typical New Yorker": direct, practical, and "street-wise".
Hard landings are not any indication of their quality, unless it's extreme. He/she sat it down precisely between the touchdown zone marker (the stripes) and the aiming point marker (the solid bars) - exactly where you should touch down. The set of stripes you saw on the runway was not the threshold, but the touchdown zone marker - you don't see the threshold in this video. LGA runways are notoriously short with no displaced threshold and with water on the other end and a highway at the other - there is no room to float - so they did a great job. Also looks like it's summer so the landing speed could be higher. Safety, not softness is the main priority. On longer runways pilots tend to go past the touchdown zone - pretty much any cockpit landing video out there shows that. This is really not an option here. Also no indication the pilot flying was the captain :)
@@alejandrosaninmolina9208 Not really. I doubt most pilots can. Most landings you experience are not on a short runway where the pilot lands squarely in the touchdown zone. Many pilots make a short-field landing and still overshoot the landing zone making for a smooth but riskier landing. This pilot is exceptional.
@@alejandrosaninmolina9208 Then I am sorry for your passengers. A smooth landing on a short runway is dangerous because a smooth landing requires floating during a flare and always leads to landing outside the touchdown zone on short runways (unless you approach too low which too is dangerous). Here is a quote from an actual pilot about LGA specifically: “[LaGuardia] is a good example. It’s basically like landing on a short-field runway every time,” he said, noting that he flew frequently to LGA as a captain on the A320. “We’re going to flare but with no float. We aim to pick a spot on the runway and put it there.” “On landing, it’s important to be in the correct place at the correct speed,” Brady said. “You don’t want to be 10 or 20 knots too fast, and not set up to land at the right spot on the runway.” Here is the link: thepointsguy.com/news/hard-airplane-landings/
Yes, 1:38 first bridge on left is Brooklyn Bridge and then Manhattan Bridge. At 1:50 is the Williamsburg Bridge and at 2:42 if you look behind the new building with the orange netting is the Queensborough or commonly referred to as the 59TH Street Bridge.

It's a bit funny reading the comments as a pilot. So many who have not a clue about aviation or airplanes but writing about a hard landing.
Somebody's tried that "soft" landing in the Hudson already, I think ...
NYC looks so beautiful from the air, believe it or not!
Yes, but not only from the air!
As the saying goes " any landing you can walk away from is a good landing "...Frank
Fabulous views of NYC...Manhattan skyline with those imposing skyscrapers !!! Thanks for a superb upload !!!
before billionaires stuck in their ugly skinny private skyscrapers too.
In September 2019 I took the same route to LaGuardia from Chicago, unfortunately it was dark already :-( Thanks for showing me what I missed!
Great footage. The light was perfect! Thank you.
One day I hope to be able to experience the same incredible view. Thank you for sharing!

I was so worried on 9/11 because I thought my son might be piloting United 175 or United 77 but he was on the west coast that day.

What kind of plane??
Nadine Crupi 737
Nadine Crupi usually 737’s are used by Southwest.
@@brianjames4169 the only planes southwest flies are 737s
Clearly a Boeing 737 on Southwest, but not sure if -700 or -800. Definitely not a -300 judging by wings.

I think the "Uggghhhh" at touch down said it all. LOL They sat that one down nearly on the threshold. Needs a little work Captain.
