Cuba’s Freedom Song: Interview with El Funky

The song “Patria y Vida” [Fatherland and Life] has become an anthem of freedom in Cuba and a protest slogan against the dictatorship.
On November 3, 2021, the Cuban rapper El Funky, coauthor of “Patria y Vida,” visited the Cato Institute in Washington, D.C. Days before, he was able to leave Cuba, where his colleague, Maykel Castillo, another coauthor of the song, remains imprisoned as do many Cubans after the mass protests in July 11, 2021.
We spoke with El Funky about “Patria y Vida” and the current situation in Cuba.

A lot if people in Cuba can and do use USB flash drives to circumvent using the internet. Things like VPN and TOR aren't always available to circumvent government constraints; as people are able to do in slightly more developed countries, Like the People's Republic of China.
