    Hello, thanks for your great video. I have a 2023 DL1050 with 15,000 miles on it. Thanks to your vid, I was confidant I could handle the valve adjust easily enough. I was a professional airplane mechanic for 29 years, and worked on motorcycles for 10 years before that. So I’m not really a backyard mechanic, I have a lifetime of experience. But this was my first time on a V twin. I purchased and read the Suzuki factory service manual, watched your vid several times and figured was ready. It all went just like the manual and your vid showed. Was easy and straight forward. Had to adjust all 8 valves. They were all in spec, but at the very min spec. I wanted them looser than that. After getting it all back together with new plugs and coolant. started it up, and while no bad noises, it was only running on the front cylinder as verified with an infrared heat gun. I took it back apart and verified yes, all the cam timing marks were exactly according to the manual. Any ideas on something I could have missed? Appreciate any advice or tips you could offer… Craig

      Hi Craig, glad the video helped you! I'm sitting here trying to think of what could have gone wrong... When you removed the rear cams did you turn the crank to the front timing marks on the flywheel? other than that, the only thing I can think of is maybe a loose sparkplug wire or a wire that wasn't plug back in. If I think of something else I'll reply back again.

      Thank you for your reply. I really appreciate you still answering questions years after you posted this vid. To follow up, I took it all back apart, and everything was perfect. I didn’t change a thing, put it all back together exactly the same, and it ran perfect! Still no idea why it wasn’t firing the rear, but it is now! Thnx again@@VStromGarage

    That video could be also named "coolant replacement", same as "air filter replacement" :D Super useful vid, way beyond 101

    Excellent timing, chap - my 2018's due imminently!
    Good to see better wiring protection above the rad too, as the 650s of that MY suffer in that location. 👌🏻🙌🏻

      Sorry I didn't get back sooner, but I don't really know anyone in your area. I would say ride it to Vegas and we could get it done, but it looks like I will be busy for the next 6 weeks.

      Thankyou for answering back.
      I've checked valve clearance on my sv 650.
      May try at least checking rear head on 1000
      Then take it in to one shop that's done work for me before.
      I appreciate it, take care

    Thanks for doing these videos. Have you done a video yet for the spark plug change? I have a '14 and think I'd like to do my 4 plugs in the next couple months. Thanks.

    Hi.
    Great job, as all your DIY vids.
    I have a doubt.
    Which coolant do you use?
    The spec is 50-50 coolant, but, any other spec or can I use a standard OAT coolant?
    Regards

      I believe I used Toyota red coolant mixed 50/50 in this one. as long as it's silicate free and one other thing I can't think of, you can use it in the motorcycle.

    What are the red funnels you use for all your maintenances (oil water...)? They look practical

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  3 года назад +1

      I use it for both, the funnel is made by Redline.

    Does it matter what type of shims you use and where is the best place to get them?

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  Год назад +1

      As long as they are the right size, brand doesn't matter. Rocky Mountain ATV is where I get mine from. They also sell half sizes if you want to get really precise.

    It's a big deal.. I ride r1200gs and 1050xt.. I have to disassemble the bike like that and adjust the valve gap.. In r1200gs, you only need to loosen 4 nuts to open and adjust the engine.... It's a big deal. ... Should I do the same in a few years?

    • @VStromGarage
      @VStromGarage  2 года назад

      Ya, but at least on the Vstrom you don't have to disassemble the rear end to put a dab of grease on the splines.

    hello, with my 2004 model dl 650 motorcycle, when I go with 6 gears and 4000-4500 rpm with constant speed, it gives FI C-45 fault code. When I go at 5000-6000 rpm, there is no problem. What could be the problem?

      the only way to find out is to use a leak down tester on each cylinder, if you hear air coming from the airbox it's your intake valves, if you hear air from the exhaust pipe it's your exhaust valves, and if you hear air from the crankcase it's your piston rings. Remove the oil filler plug to hear the crankcase.
