This was a very informative video. I actually read all the information on the Knott's website regarding wheelchairs and shows and nowhere does it say that you need the Boarding Pass/Disability Pass to go through the bottom doors of the Walter Knott Theater with a wheelchair. This is what it says about show venues: "Walter Knott Theater Show Access: The Walter Knott Theater is an indoor theater that seats up to 2100 guests. There are special viewing areas that will be able to accommodate guests in wheelchairs. For entry into the theatre, wait by the black and white doors located under the entrance ramp, across the pathway from the Wheeler Dealer Bumper Cars entrance. An usher will be there to assist the guest and his/her party to a seat." Knott's needs to update their website.
Hi Vince and Julie, this is Lucy. This happened to us. I agree with everything you both said. I understand the need for the guest assistance sheet for the rides but not for the shows. This is so needless. Maybe they don't want too many handicap at one time. This is very UNFAIR. Thank you for airing this.
We are so sorry that this happened to you too. It’s just not necessary and could be avoided easily by providing info when entering the park. It is unfair. Thanks for watching and hopefully we’re able to help get the word out. 😊
I strongly agree with you guys good information, I've had had the same experience in the past. the pass is called an Access Pass, hope this helps everyone. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years.
This is why we don’t do Disney anymore. There’s a coldness towards disabilities like we are just a problem. We are getting ready to go to Knotts. Thx for the warning. People just don’t get how hard it is to push a chair all day.
Glad I came across this video, my family & I are going to Knotts next month for my son's company party. I am 56 and will be taking my own mobility scooter because I cant walk without assistance. I totally agree with you on how everything was handled. Im not expecting on going to any shows or rides but I will look into getting the disability pass when I enter the park. Thank you
Positive communication to all guests is key for great guest experience. It is probably hard for new associates to learn great customer service since it doesn’t happen overnight or even with just great leadership as some people may think. It takes more than that usually; leadership, communication, common sense, knowledge, practice with communication and clarity, practice with a huge amount of scenarios of different guests, consistent practice with dealing with upset guests, how to handle dishonest guests, how to fix and heal with difficult situations, positive mentality and state of mind, empathy/sympathy of guests, and generally being helpful for a win-win situation on both parties. I am sorry you had to go through a bad time at Knott’s. I may not be a employee currently (worked once in Grizzly Creek Lodge at one moment in January) but I do hope Knott’s associates who aren’t very well at problem solving get better and take this as a learning experience.
That is awful. I am so sorry to hear this happened to you. Clearly in a wheelchair! If someone is clearly handicapped and there have been changes to a policy, then a small instructional flyer should be given out at the entrance. That is just terrible.
Thanks Marie for the support and we appreciate the kind words. It really was an unfortunate experience that could have been clearly avoided. Hopefully people will be more informed now. 😊
this is very well said and informational. sorry you had to experience this on a holiday that should’ve been a fun day. im sure others with handicapped dealt with this too and got turned away. i really hope they fix this boarding pass sometime soon. this seems like a serious situation and the associate should watch their respect towards you and other guests.
Thanks so much for the support. We’re finding out that other people have had issues too so we hope this video helps bring light to this issue. Agreed, respect for others goes a long way. 😊
Hi im robert b my friend diane and I met you and Julie the last night of peanuts festival at knotts we love the viedo about disabled Julie's mother during the ice show
I remember 20 years ago when I was an AP at Knott’s I had to get a special assistance pass at Guest Services near the park exit and entrance. A couple years ago, I went to the same place near the exit and then they sent me across GhostRider to get a pass. If I didn’t ask, I would be lost trying to find it. Knott’s should let wheelchair guests like me know where to get a assistance pass at the ticket counter or turnstiles. Communication about the assistance pass needs improvement like you said. -KuyaCeas 😊
I'm part of Guest Control, aka the employees who were doing the ushering for the ice show. I wasn't assigned to Walter Knott Theater that day and thus I didn't witness this myself. I really am sorry you had this experience. If you like, I can bring your concerns up to my supervisors the next time I am at work.
Wow. In July I went back to California for my uncle's funeral. He was an employee at Knott's Berry farm me and my mom took some of his passes that he had and went to the park a couple times. Just for the struggle it would be I never got on any of the rides. I never knew about the special pass so had I try to get on I would have had to deal with this issue. I tried to get on sky cabin but was thinking it was larger than what it was I would be able to take my chair into the sky cabin and get in. I found out the hard way that I was wrong but I didn't realize that I would have had these kind of issues with any of the rides. I thought about riding supreme scream and until I watch this video I was regretting that I didn't.
I love Knott's Berry farm as an amusement park but after my experience in July I really hate them as a corporation. Because my uncle had most of his social circle at work we wanted to hold the funeral at Knott's Berry farm to make it easier for the employees to attend. Not only did they want a fortune to do that which we didn't have but virtually none of his co-workers were able to get the day off for the the funeral was attended by 3 of his coworkers my mom and myself :-(
You know the same thing happen to me!!! I am in a walker with oxygen and after hiking up the ramp--and the door letting in--they told me that I could not go because they only had stairs. I was so lucky--when I was getting the shut down--not the lead--but upper management, I'm regular too so I know they difference in ranks, told the girl at the door to escort me to a seat on the bottom area. I was treated great only because of the guy that was giving the directions. Otherwise--it was very wrong and unorganized. Much like yourself, I love Knott's and have mostly good experiences. But I was subjected to waiting a hour and a half in the sun--I am really large with a walker and there is no way a employee did not notice me and told me to get a pass. After entering 'my area' I did not even know why I needed a special pass to go down there. It was slow and it was half way empty. I am handicap and check the Knott's blog and did not have any clue I needed a special pass. In fact when they told me about the pass--I had no clue what they were talking about to the point that I showed them my Annual pass! Basically, I was shocked that I got 'Karened' at Knott's.
As someone who has worked for Knotts and has done this job you have to understand that people abuse the handicap entrance just to get inside because they don’t want to wait in line the employees where just following the rules they are given. If they make an exception for you then they got to do it for everyone. Until you have worked the job you will never understand why situations are handled the way they are it’s not that the employee wants to be difficult they just need to follow the rules because as soon as one guest sees the employee let you go they all demand the same treatment and don’t need to be yelled and cussed at for letting you slide on by!
I BEEN GOING TO KNOTT'S FOR YEAR'S AND HAVE KIDS WITH A DISABILITY AND BEEN GETTING A BOARDING PASS EVERY TIME I GO!!! IT'S RIGHT ACROSS FROM GHOST RIDER YOU CAN'T MISS THE ROOM IT'S SIMPLE AND EASY IF YOU HAVE SOMEBODY WITH A DISABILITY TRY THAT NEXT TIME
Cedar Fair needs to follow the Six Flags independent organization they utilize for their guest ADA assistance program...we almost had a poor Scary Farm experience but for a Knott's lead who assisted us...
Hi Joseph. So glad your Scary Farm night was saved. Knott’s has many great employees. Our experience was sad for Julie’s Mom. & should not have happened. Tell me about how Six Flags does it?
Where is HP a parking? I have mobility issues and can't walk distance. I reserved a electric scooter and have. Never been to this park. This is troublesome for me to hear it only for myself but our two autistic sons.
Hi. The closest Handicap parking is in the Marketplace lot. Make sure to go straight to guest services to get you your special need passes. Have a great time.
I was asked what my children’s disabilities were in order to receive the passes. I am a season pass holder and have never been asked what their disabilities were. The employee asked me, “ what is the disability so they can receive the pass.” I was shocked and upset.
No disrespect intended but a polite fyi, handicap/handicapped is a deragatory term. The current term to use is disabled. Part of my job is to make sure places are accessible to disabled persons. Take care 💛

Knott’s has been updating their ADA policy. I would think if you have special needs you would verify what the current policies are for the park and if you have questions and or any concerns to ask at information. The employees are just trying to do their jobs and what they are told
Agree they are doing their jobs, but the rudeness is uncalled for. There are always things that happen that can be handled better. Thanks for the comment. We value all opinions on this channel.

I also read the Boarding Pass Program part of the website (including the 44 page Guest Assistance Guide and it doesn't mention that you need the Boarding Pass to go in through the bottom doors at the Walter Knott Theater.
