I'm not fond of the fact that its made in a country that despises ours, however good is good. and they've gotten really good at making decent guitars at a decent price point....though the prices are starting to climb rapidly for any guitar with a brand name regardless where its made.

I also purchased the EPIPHONE WORN Cherry SG Classic. The tone and playability and visual effects and appeal is top notch . It also has made me want to get another SG as well.

Wow, .I’ve heard and read about people preferring a satin finish to the back of the neck of their electric guitars. I’ve also learned of players feeling more comfy with Epiphone models than Gibson ones. This could be the first time I’ve been conscious of a player saying their hands stuck to the back of the neck of any guitar. That is especially surprising after having myself owned several Epiphone guitars, all with gloss finish at the back of the neck and my only Gibson model, a Les Paul in gold, having a gloss finish on the body and a satin finish on the back of the neck - and suffered no neck drag on any of them. All that being said, I still otherwise relate to why your Gibson SG disappointed you and you chose to stick with the Epiphone.
I have toyed with the idea through most of the 29 years that I have been a guitar player (having begun learning to play in 1995) with the idea of getting an SG model. Every time I become tempted by one, I back off. At the end of 2021, I instead purchase a different Epiphone model, a Flying V from a 2009 line that was exclusive to the Canadian retailer Long and McQuade, the Negative line. It feels kind of savory being an American musician located in New York City whose current Epiphone guitar model originated on the Canadian market.

@@Shred_The_Weapon I stopped by GC today to play an ESP E-II that I saw online. I was surprised that my hand dragged terribly on the gloss finish neck. I have an E-II and my hands don’t drag. It’s definitely got something to do with the makeup of the clear coat..

It really is a great little guitar. Also the stock P90’s break up well without getting nasty. Epi really stepped up their game.

All I play are Gibson and Epiphone guitars. My Gibson SG (Duncan Distortions) and my Epiphone Prophecy Extura (Jim Root EMGs) are my absolute favorites.
Change those 57s for something hotter for sound, and if you were gonna keep it, sand the neck.

Half of the price of Gibson guitars is for the name just like Harley's when you buy a motorcycle, you get what you pay for....

It seems like gibsons are just collectors items now and epiphones are the players guitars

My gibsons get played daily. They are not a collection. I have 4 and getting a 5th ordered tomorrow. But I play in a band. And have shows all the time. They are tools. Just nicer ones

Their collectors items because why would an average musician pay for $5000 for a gibson when they can pay %500 and get the same guitar without nibs...

Got to be honest, as a Gibson guy, those hps aren't for me either.
    Love my standard though

The neck keeps pulling down and gets uncomfortable. With the damage in my shoulder, wrist and hand from my accident I can’t play it for longer than 5 minutes without pain in my shoulder and the constant pulling up on the neck while trying to play is a pita…
I may go to Chuck Levin next week and play the standard again.. but for the price I’m not sure it’s worth almost $1.5k more than the Epi. I’ve heard many…. many times Gibson owners saying it may take several Gibsons to find one that “has it”… not sure if that’s true but I even hear pro musicians saying it… so buying used sounds like it could be another pain in the butt…
I’ll be honest, my Ibanez JS2410 is quite literally the easiest playing guitar I’ve ever owned. The pickups, the feel, the balance, the neck profile..it fits like it was made for me…Joe and I are built v similar, I realized that when I met him. And he’s my first guitar hero… so I’m thinking I’ve found “my guitar”… really don’t need a Gibson just to own one… though it would be cool to inadvertently find one that I could connect with. Thank you for the comment and watching my video. I truly enjoy making them. The most fun I’ve had in a long time.

@@Thenon-mediocreguitarist if the epi is the one, stick with that, absolutely nothing wrong with them at all, they are great guitars. I love the look of that green classic, and it sounds great too, I've also got my eye on the Pelham blue special, one of those two definately next on the list!

We get it, you like the CHINESE guitar, cool, I have a Epiphone Riviera, like a 335 Gibson. I think back then, groups like Paul Revere and the Raiders ,Wailers, many used the Riviera. Thought it was made in states.I played most rock festivals, if l didn't sweat, I would not be human, I don't understand, everyone sweats under Klieg lights.I certainly did following Ike and Tina Turner at Satsop river festival 1973. Why didn't you play any of the unsteady guitars and the problem one either? JUST WONDERING! Do you perform, or play in your room.Either is great but your disappointment may be you never had a Gibson, too much expectation.I. bought a SG standard four years ago, I love the finish! Easy ,.light love rosewood, have a Les Paul custom prefer rosewood to ebony. My SG looks nothing like yours. Wish you would have played at least a little!

@@frankdardano3182 honestly, the way my hand stuck to the back of the neck made it a pain to play….from my understanding there were issues on these with the clear they used on the neck…which I would definitely agree with.

I paid 1800, you paid 3 grand! No wonder your disappointed, way too much, don't like the finish on yours either.Epiphone is ok, call China tell them.I have tried Epiphone, but prefer Gibson, since 1967, SG. They are made by Gibson, they are quality. It's like guns, buy a gun you like, regardless of opinions.

I played one of those when they came out, and yea, they weren't nearly as impressive to play as to look at.
Whenever I find a Gibson I like, it's one of the best guitars I've played, but most Gibsons I try are just alright and almost never match the price tag anymore. For what its worth, Fender doesn't impress me that often either.
Epiphone is much more consistent for me. If its a model I like, and the neck shape even remotely matches what I'd expect, it's usually great. My favorite recently was actually one of those P-90 SGs, even in green like yours. Only got to try it once though before I went overseas for a while. I also like the current Les Paul Juniors.
