Glad to see you mention YSL Pour Homme, it was my signature scent in the 70's. I was able to snag some vintage bottles from ebay a few years ago when they were still reasonably priced and still wear it today.
YSL Pour Homme was my first fragrance! Given to me by a favorite Aunt when I was 8 years old! I still remember the bottle which I've not seen again since, black with silver/white writing and a silver cap. It is from this bottle that I learned the terms Eau de Toilette and Pour Homme. Thank you Sebastian for this thoughtful review.
I did a comparison review on Rive Gauche Pour Homme and La Collection Rive Gauche Pour Homme, they are 95% identical. Just my opinion though. :) I believe I like La collection Rive Gauche Pour Homme better myself. It's polished a bit better and Performance is identical.
Pour Homme rocks my sock . I get a slight dash of ginger in it , its like fresh Barbasol shaving creme ...Still haven't smelled Rive Gauche ...Im devastated you said that about Jazz I just ordered it and Duoros Eau De Portugal by Penhaligons ...Wont even look at M7 not into oud
@Muhi Hoque I have both the clear bottle and the one with the black label, also have a bottle of the first en second formulation of the original M7. There are no differences between the clear bottle (2017) and the one with the black label of the Oud Absolu , both have amazing longevity and projection and smell identical to the second formulation of the original M7, but the first formulation of the original M7 smells a bit different, it is thicker and has more depth and cherry-like sweetness, sadly it's discontinued.
I've only tried m7&rive gauche. Love both of them. Snagged m7 on a discounter for 35 euro. A steal at that price. I also have a bottle of the original m7 Great to hear about pour homme & jazz that I haven't tried. Appreciate the overview 🙏
Ysl jazz i had been searching for this scent for a long long time cuase i only could remember the white and black bottel but not the name but with Google and by searching very hard i finally found it and the name but sadly they dont have the older bottel look they have it in a clear bottel and omg its the same smell as if it was 23 years ago
Thank you so much for your videos. I have had this scent lingering on my nostrils like for years and I could never pinpoint which parfum I had in mind. I just love colognes and parfumes especially the ones with a very strong masculine appeal; for eg. Kourus, Polo Green, Fahrenheit, etc. After so much pondering, I remembered the scent I was thinking of; Jazz from YSL, from the 1988 Wooow, mind blowing fragrance. I have been searching for it all over the internet, but came across some dealers selling the testers for around €118. According to the batchcodes, these have over seen their shelflives. I recently purchased one of these and I was really disappointed, since the original fragrance was no longer to be noticed, just smelled like soap. This was due to its expiration. I am still in search of the original scent. I just ordered the Jazz EDT 80ml. and hoping it still has its roots intact.👍
Great overview Sebastian! To me, the newest version of Jazz has a striking similarity to Drakkar Noir off the top, whereas the black label version was closer to Tsar. Haven't tried the latest Rive Gauche, but I can imagine a similar neutering taking place. 2 balls, 1 strike ... 0 balls.
Hello, may I ask? Is the jazz from 2011 similar to the one from 1988? What's the difference ... The one from 1988 was my favorite perfume of all ... When I buy this one from 2011, will it remind me at least a little? .. Thank you
For many years Jazz was my signature fragrance, but today I only miss it, because here in Brazil it is very difficult to find, and when you find it is a fortune.
Thank you for your review of Jazz....I'm equally completely disappointed that it doesn't smell like the original formulation!! Was hoping to pick up that nostalgic scent....oh well, will have to live in the present now lol
Got the la collection JAZZ a few months ago, not sure about another reformulation, but it's very very close to the original I used to wear. And it's BEAST MODE. So what's going on 🤔
Another legendary YSL men's fragrance that has seen better days is Opium pour Homme, Opium, eau de Parfum, was introduced in 1977 and went through several reformulations. The only version available today is the eau de tiolette. Sad to say, it's a shadow of it's former self. Someone really should remake the old version. Absolutely legendary.
@@RichMitch I just chatted with a representative at YSL (today) and she confirmed that they discontinued Opium per Homme years ago. Opium for women and several flankers are still manufactured by YSL, but not the men's version.
All I can say my friend is I think you have maybe been given a fake because I have the current Jazz in that same bottle & I get compliments every time I wear it, and it lasts on me at least 8 hours! 🤔
I haven’t tried Rive Gauche from La Collection, but I have the tin can version and the smell is gorgeous, it really smells like an expensive shaving cream, and also longevity is very good (I get 10+ hours)
May I ask you what you think smells better between Dolce and Gabanne Pour Homme and British Sterling? And which one is more barbershop smelling? Thanks for the video.

Great review, Sebastian, as always! I don’t remember these from back in the day by name, but I may by smell. I was wondering how reformulations affected these scents. I’ve seen M7 referred to in other reviews of classic scents and Rive Gauche even more. You mentioned Kuros, and although that fragrance wasn’t included in this review, I wonder how it is holding up through reformulations. Please keep reviews like this coming. You do a great job!
I hear what you're saying about Jazz. THe original was one of my all time favourites. Luckily for me I found someone selling an original bottle for really cheap. The very first bottle that was the rectangular plastic bottle that was black and white like piano keys. It's one of my most coveted in my collection now.
Thanks a lot for your take on this. I have M7, Kourus series, Rive Gauche, Pour Homme and Jazz (the older versions few bottles) I haven't tried the newer versions. I haven't touched those bottles all these years since I got them. Viewing your reviews, I am interested to try those bottles I have. But I am afraid to wear them directly on my skin as they are very old, so spraying on clothes (dark clothes) will be much safer. Hoping strongly to see a review on your opinion on wearing vintage perfumes : How to wear these fragrances (vintage versions). As most of us like me, will be a little concerned on the sensitive corners on the body (may these vintage fragrances create rashes or skin problems)?
Spot on with your assessment on the Jazz re formulation it was a huge disappointment to me. To the point where they really shouldn’t have released it. It disrespects the original. There is a copycat called Blues which gets a lot closer to the original. Would welcome a review of it.
Hi there, great video! I have a question, I found someone in Ireland that is selling a JAZZ fragrance, that is supposed to be original and sealed. Do you think after all these years it is still good? or do you think the fragrance might have deteriorate already? thanks!

I own these newer bottles of Pour Homme, Rive Gauche & M7 Oud Absolu, without the black strip. Really enjoy them. What is your usual spray routine for colognes? Obviously you've been interested in colognes for many years and would be great to know how you apply your fragrances. Thanks
I own Jazz and Rive Gauche Pour Homme in black coat bottle, they both have great performance on me, For the clear bottle I don't know did they water down or not.
@Muhi Hoque I do, and I find it performs well. Have been able to smell it after work (8+ hours), though faintly. I also went to the gym immediately after work once and was able to smell it quite a bit once I started working up a sweat. It is not a beast by any means, but it is suitable for the type of scent that it is. Would not pay full retail for it though. I bought it from FragranceBuyCA for around $80, which I believe is an acceptable price, but just barely, and that is based on my prediction that it likely will not drop any lower anytime soon.
I feel the same way about Jazz. I love it back in the 80's is was great and a favorite. The reformulations are a travesty. Thanks for another great review. Thanks for the blast from the past, they were all my favorites.
