Agreed. A lot can, and has, been said about his presidency good and bad. But it's hard to deny the altruism of his work once out of office. The world needs more politicians like him.
VFA 32 - Blue Blasters, VFA-131 Wildcats and VFA-103 Jolly Rogers ( A Single Possibly VFA-211 - Strike Fighter Squadron 211 Fighting Checkmates - Commander ) From NAS Oceana - Virginia Beach! - The Good Lord Took you too Soon, Jimmy! 😔
They had aircraft from VFA-32, VFA-34, VFA-83, VFA-105, VFA-103, VFA-106, VFA-131 and VFA-211. At least one pilot had a family member who served in Congress during the Carter Administration. The Navy has a nice article on their website.
My two hero's are where my WW2 22yr Navy vet dad , and my cousin Jimmy . My grandmother , my dad's mom was a Carter . When Jimmy died it felt like my dad dying again. Born 15 mins away from each other in OCT of 1924 . Jimmy had good strong women in his life . Naval Academy shaped him and he really had no plans to leave the Navy , but his dad died , that changed his direction , but not the man . Met him at the family reunion in May of 1998 , was a honor to talk to him, exchange couple of letters. He was the great example for our family .
I was honored to serve in the U. S. Air Force during the beginning of his Presidency. A great leader. A Godly and Saved man. RIP President Carter. Thanks for your service.@
My first born daughter was born on this base sept-9th-1986 while i was stationed at the now brac closed NAS Cecil Field , We had the very first f-18 hornet squadron on the east coast in 1984 VFA-131 Wildcats and seen combat in Libya in 1986 , RIP Jimmy C. !
Can you imagine the Honor of FLying the MIssing Man formation as a Navy Pilot honoring the U.S. President who was an Annapolis graduate!? WOW ! What an honor!!!!!
I second to you as a Navy Dad having a son that flies the F18E Super Hornet. An honor to see these 21 fighter jets flyover for our former Presidents funeral missing man formation was also a former Navy Officer.
Carter was a great President, even if things weren't the smoothest. He was a honest, humble man who loved this country and family. He was a true humanitarian. Rest in peace, President Carter. I was just watching the flyover and it was beautiful. The Missing Man formation always brings tears to my eyes.
Then Capt Hyman Rickover selected Lt. Carter for the new Navy Nuclear Program in 1952. Carter previously qualified as a Submarine Officer, and also qualified for command on board USS K-1. His role was more of an operational Nuclear Engineer, but was involved in building the second nuclear sub for the Navy (USS Seawolf) and was to be the Engineer Officer, but left the active duty navy when his father died.
My father was a leader out at CARSWELL AFB in Fort Worth, TX. Growing up we would go to the air shows and get the VIP treatment. Wonderful childhood memories with him.
I served during his term and there were no wars that's an achievement yes I liked him for his habitat for humanity too but wouldn't fighters from oceana be closer and less fuel
The Funeral was in Georgia so the Squadrons flew in from Oceana. I image all of the briefings and Air Space Requirements and TFR Requirements were also easier to coordinate there from Jax plus F-15 and F-16s for the Combat Air Patrols.
Thank you for this information. Then he would be very sad about many of the comments I have read in the last few days. Especially from NC. Is FEMA doing a good job?
Amazing man I hear. He was before my time but I heard he was building houses for the unfortunate survivors of natural disasters. That’s selflessness at its finest and deserves respect.
God Speed President Carter You Have Served Well Faithful Servant Than You For Youe Service and ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE I AM ONLY WISHING I WAS AT THE CONTROLS OF ONE OF THE FA-18 SUPER HORNETS ON THE FLYOVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂🙂🙂🙂
Kudos to the wrench-turners and supply expediters to have so many aircraft in the "FMC" or "MC" status. I hope there is no cannibalization of your SPINTAC to get this many flying all at once. Unless the spare parts pipeline is improved, maintainance and supply corroborated well. BZ shipmates!
I REMEMBER SERVING UNDER CARTER, IT WAS A DISASTER, IN 4 YRS HE SLASHED THE DOD BUDGET 60%. WE HAD SHORTAGES OF EVERYTHING AND WORN OUT EQUIPMENT WAS THE ORDER OF THE DAY. PILOTS HAD LITTLE FUEL TO FLY AND JOINT TRAINING WAS NON EXISTENT IE THE IRAN RESCUE DISASTER. IN HIS LAST YEAR, WE HAD NO AMMUNITION FOR RIFLE QUALIFICATION.
