- A song inspired by the video put out by Daniel Ashley Pierce which showed his hateful parents disowning him for his own sexual preference. The song is from the perspective of both straight individuals fighting for gay rights and equality and gay individuals who are living through these hardships everyday.
Before anyone asks, yes the Bridge of the song is from Sk8er Boi. Personally, I think the melody fits perfectly. Consider it a sample.
Daniel Ashley Pierce is now on out of his family's hateful house and swimming in money and I can't think of a better example of karma in existence. Good luck to you, Dan.

"I AM who I AM" Dunno if that was intentional, but if it was that is a *damn* subtle and fantastic reference. To explain my interpretation:
1. "I AM who I AM" Is the name God gave himself to Moses according to Judaism and Christianity
2. Jewish and Christian theology also states that each human is "made in the image of God" and thus has immeasurable intrinsic value
3. The character in the song may be invoking "I am who I am" not just as a statement of his immutable sexuality, but as a reminder to his supposedly God-loving family that they are spitting in the Image of God; this coming right off the lyric that he is the one spitting in God's face. This is "What they might not understand or might wanna hear".
Again, I'm probably just super over-analyzing your song, four years later. But I noticed this and thought it would be fun to think about and comment :)

Those have got to be some of my favorite lyrics of all time. I grew up with parents that think that being gay is a sin. I now have several siblings and family members that have come out as gay or bi and one sibling that is even trans and have watched my parents attitudes towards them.
That line still hits so hard

It's pretty hypocritical that the boys dad didn't say or do anything until the mom started slapping him. Then he stands up and starts callin him a queer and a disgrace. My cousins stepdad was the same way. I was there when my cousin came out to his family. And let's just say his stepdad got some rocky balboa punches to the face

I really like this one. It shows that, even if we hate SJWs, it doesn't mean that we should close our eyes on America's problem. Sadly, religion has always been an excuse for people to commit disgusting things. I can understand that a family could reject someone because they are a rapist or murderer but rejecting someone because he is gay is so idiotic. It's like if my family rejected me because I'm small. Even though I'm straight, I had a period of questionning, and during that time, your family is what you need the most

4000 year old book actually. The Old Testament which makes up the Jewish faith is the only part of the bible that speaks against homosexuality. The New Testament was written 1800-1600 years ago which Catholicism is based on, it preaches to love your neighbours and to not judge anyone, Christians like to ignore that though.
Darren Champagne pretty sure the Bible was condemning child prostitution, common amongst royalty back in the day. I mean, the Old Testament is fairly practical. It's known for having specific words that are covered in one word in English. So, the word for molestation of a boy by a man "fits" under homosexuality. It's a square, so it's a rectangle, kind of thing.

It seems arrogant to claim homosexuality isn't a choice as if it matters. What does it matter if he's born that way, that just makes it a condition. It's a perfectly legitimate lifestyle, choice or not.
I know I'm a little late, but it's because it being a choice would give anti-gay people more ammo, and if it's not it proves that you can't 'fix them'.

I oftem find myself coming back to this video when LGBT topics hit the news. Right now it is 2021's conflict between the EU and Hungary.
One part of this song that always really hits me hard is "If you believe this is a choice surrender to me your voice. I now relinquish your right to pass judgement since it's quite obvious you do not care that the evidence is there."
All over, comments are talking about influencing kids, changing their sexuality choice, etc. I hate it. I hate that these people's ignorance is treated on the same playing field as the scientific evidence that it is not a choice. I abhor that you can just say blatant falsehoods against carefully tested science and be treated on equal footing. I would not want to ban free speech, but it is definitely a topic that just knocks on the back of my head and puts a seed of doubt in my pro speech stance.

I'm Christian. A God-follower. But I would never use this as some pathetic excuse to hurt the ones I'm *supposed* to love and care for. Do I believe it is sinful? Yes.
