Rune word gives values to white items with socket. Doesn't have to be so extreme broken like enigma. But it gives more content to be farmed (runes) and also can be catered to the hardcore players.
Considering how the legendary aspects and tempering work, I really don't think that the leveling part would be that much of a change. You already keep the same item hanging around for quite a while. You don't care what stats your gloves has as long as it says "the skill you use is better" as part of the aspect. When it comes to the end game, any system that is based on rng drops instead of deterministic grind will have the same problems of the grind being unfulfilling experience. While the problem is not that specific for rune words, I do agree that they would be bad for the game if implemented as they were in D2.
I started out playing D2 then D2 LOD, and now D2R. I've been in all the bugged gear, hexed, whites, rune words, etc. What do ppl want to play with at the end of the day? OP builds. 80% ppl are going out looking for mid-maxing, or meta builds bc they want the OP build. ITS FUN!! I don't understand the hate on this personally. Idk about you.. I get pretty damn stoked finding a high rune drop! I will agree, for the avg person, the drop rate could be higher and should be. I don't think it matters what the item is or the game, really.. Everyone is looking to WIN, that's the point!! Personally, all these balance updates are stupid boring, it kills the game, at least for me. Look at D4, it has already run into this and the community legit said, its boring, let us play OP builds!! I'd personally love to see boss farming and rune words come to D4, that would be sick and feel so much more connected to the OG game. Trading brings a sense of community to the game. D2 is fun, you get to chill and talk with ppl. D4 is so lonely bc there aren't any of them ties. More open world random events, hell, maybe even bring random spawns bosses like diablo, baal, mephisto, etc, as random events would be killer. I also highly miss the OG teleport from D2. Personally.. Streamers who play these games over and over and over for thousands of hours seem to be the ones saying this stuff. The ppl that work full time and have kids do not.. At least not from what I've seen. You guys are bored bc you've "Been there, done that." You're always at the end game.. I still enjoy hunting for items and RUNES. There are still many great items out there, that are used for well when you haven't landed trade for a rune or you are leveling. D4 rune words would be new items anyway; it's not like they are gonna straight up to import the old items from d2. BUT MAN, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!! Maybe it would be worth playing then. Face it; many have laughed at D4 bc it's disconnected from D2. I don't understand why every company is trying to be DIABLO, but BLIZZARD?! They are the name in ARPG. D2 was an amazing game, and everyone just wants a legit next DIABLO game and not whatever the hell this is.
so, here's what i love about runewords: they can be fit into all sort of bases. they are more flexible than other systems because every ARPG is going to have BiS picks, but runewords can make that BiS choice (slightly) more flexible they give nice early power spikes to players they are extremely easy to understand. i don't need an entire build to make a runeword great - it works all on its own, which means it is an obvious thing to hunt for and slot into your character for scaling purposes they provide a certain layer of endgame intrigue via the rarity of some runes while still being a system easily engaged with by players at any given point in the game
the whole goal is to get the best gear, and then get the perfect version of those items. its a loot chase, that allows you to kill faster, to get more loot. thats how they work and i dunno but it seems like you're not even mentioning that aspect of an arpg.
Like he forgets there are people between the casuals who didn't finish the campaign and the 1% streaming community. His points are basically because he doesn't know how it could be balanced, then it shouldn't be there. Good thing he's not a game designer lol
Your mistake is thinking that the runewords will work exactly the same as D2. They already teased how runewords worked back before D4 was released but they curbed it for now because they said they didn’t have enough time to balance and polish it. The way it worked was there was two types of runes. Conditional runes and effect runes. Conditional runes would trigger the effect rune once its condition was met. So for example a condition might be ‘when you use a healing potion trigger the next rune’. Then the effect rune might be something like ‘gain 50% critical strike chance for the next 7 seconds’. There was a handful of runes and their effects shown off years ago. I’d be astonished if these don’t come back in one way shape or form sooner or later.
I don't mind them adding it. But I know I'll never get a chance to get them just like ubers. Think they listen too much to the loud 1% content creators as you mentioned.
Runewords might be the best way for Trading actually be a thing in this game. Diablo 2 succeeded for many many years because of 2 things: PvP and Trading. Diablo 4 has none of em.
Personally if they made it a little easier on getting the room words and if you can unsocket them then by all means then it would have been okay but remembering how annoying it was to not only have to get room words but you have to take one room word combine it with another just to be able to get a certain tier then you have to constantly do it over and over and over again multiple times and that's just for the one there is a number of different ones and it just as much as I love Diablo 2, the whole situation with room words I found unappealing after years of not playing and then trying it again. Is that stop playing the outlook 2 and then I re-picked it up when I start playing Resurrection and the graphics look amazing on it but that's all. Dealing with the constant grinding of runewords (Not room words) just made me realize how annoying it was
I haven't played since season 1 but if they add runewords ill probably give it a spin. So they might add them back eventually to lure people back in with a familiar concept.
I dont care about balance, at all, use it or dont. I've been more excited seeing MID runes drop in D2/D2R than anything that's ever dropped for me in D4, that's a problem with D4. Another problem is no I dont just want an Uber boss that i have to farm for the items, that's part of the D4 problem when compared to D2 where things can drop from the most varied places and mobs. The most frustrating thing about modern day Diablo, D3 and D4, is they already have an example of an addicting gameplay loop with D2 LoD, for classes, systems and itemisation, but they seem hell bent on trying to reinvent the wheel. Spoiler, their wheel always ends up being a square
It's hard to decouple run words from the rampant duping of high runs and the high rune economy that ultimately ruined diablo 2 end game for anyone that didn't want the game to turn into a trading sim.
I guess they cant help it, the game was build to be that way, its up to us to find what we find interesting in theaspect of the game that suit our own taste in playing an rpg game, its like ferrari was built to be sports car from the ground, when it became ferrari you can modify it but still its a sports car you cant change it to be 7seater suv 4x4 capable, imho i'm a casual player not competitive or grindish, if I had my fun I had my fun and stop thats it
Let's assume they don't add layers for power (like Runewords). What's it gonna be in 2 years? A fire wall build has 13 offensive fire-related aspects and 10 fire-related uniques to choose from? Is that really the future of D4? You get a ton of options, but only a few combos are good and you can't use all of it because that's how the game's designed. It's already kind of like this, and it's bad.
Yes ! I want a new spot for new drops! So much more can be add to this game and can be better ! Even with runes ! I like the idea ! Here in D4 we can see they care a lot more than in the D2 : )
Truth be told if dont like someone else’s content i just do not watch it. Truth be told (also) if a video is not private and lines up with my search, it’s meant the least to generate some sort of feedback. With this said, i 100% disagree with you. Runewords should comeback. And sure, let them comeback unbalanced. With time, Diablo 4 is proving that it can and will be an excellent Arpg.
Runewords wont be done the same as D2 so alot of these problems can be avoided. Runes are great for the economy, adds another layer to crafting, and its super obvious when a good rune drops that it'll feel really good when it drops. Also runes can drop from everything in D2, so target farming runes isnt a thing.
Ur basing ur whole opinion off runewords from d2 and the power they represent compared to other items in d2 .. That does not automaticly means that runewords in d4 wil provide the same powerspike they did in d2 .. Its to the devs if they implement them to make sure its another OPTION and not THE way to go by . and to be fair , in d2 the only real itemslots where runewords where the bether option in most cases where armor and weapons slots . shields could be debated where u got spirit and phoenix .And i dont mind a spicific itemtypes to dominate few slots . if its not the rws that are best in slot there then it wil be somthing else . And the 2nd one , comparing sets to d3 where the whole game itemization is build around sets is a wrong take aswel . in d4 they would only be an addition and would never be the core of the itemization . in short d2 is not d4 and d3 is also not d4 . I'm all for adding rws and sets if they make it fit for the game . Basing ur optinions over them according to older diablo version makes no sence as its a new game ! they can nail it even if they fcked it up in older games ( for the record i dont think they fcked it up in d2 , i loved runewords )
Im the average player, casual just for fun playing, in lvl 60, I havent finished main quest, i got horse inlvl 50ish, still wandering around the world, enjoying quest, these rune thingy and lead to grinding its not for me, I build my char just the way I like my rpg hero to be, my build is not in youtube recomended strongest end game build lol
the shitty system is that we have to collect some stupid mats to go to the boss, as if nothing could happen, drop random, don't compare d2 to d4 because diablo 2 is a perfectionist gameplay and diablo 4 is shit for 2 days, just like diablo 3

I think putting Runes or rune shards in your paragon board would be neat. Something like they can upgrade or change the blue nodes.
so, here's what i love about runewords:

4:16 Thought I heard an echo but we both said 'WHAT" at the same time haha
Runewords might be the best way for Trading actually be a thing in this game. Diablo 2 succeeded for many many years because of 2 things: PvP and Trading. Diablo 4 has none of em.
you can trade legendaries and unique items in S4.
PvP is totally a thing, search ReefJohnson
Personally if they made it a little easier on getting the room words and if you can unsocket them then by all means then it would have been okay but remembering how annoying it was to not only have to get room words but you have to take one room word combine it with another just to be able to get a certain tier then you have to constantly do it over and over and over again multiple times and that's just for the one there is a number of different ones and it just as much as I love Diablo 2, the whole situation with room words I found unappealing after years of not playing and then trying it again. runewords solo self found is going to be a pain
They will use rune words as a seasonal mechanic and from that point decide if they want to keep it in basic game
I haven't played since season 1 but if they add runewords ill probably give it a spin. So they might add them back eventually to lure people back in with a familiar concept.
Season Theme: Rune Words
I dont care about balance, at all, use it or dont. I've been more excited seeing MID runes drop in D2/D2R than anything that's ever dropped for me in D4, that's a problem with D4.

D4 was supposed to be more like D2 but so far its looking more and more like D3 with better graphics
Power creep is inevitable, Runewords is a mega fan favorite that I'm sure will see
Let's assume they don't add layers for power (like Runewords). What's it gonna be in 2 years? A fire wall build has 13 offensive fire-related aspects and 10 fire-related uniques to choose from? id kill for runewords in d4
Well... you must have killed 😂
@@jaredjacobus4904 they are not runewords they are a shit try at re inventing the wheel and called it the same thing, also you have no proof

i rather have set gear then rune words
D4 bad. Srsly
If d2 was never good then d4 wud never have been labeled bad.
Until a new diablo game is made that can actually compete with the classic king d2 just forget it. Game is so boring there's nothing (at least interesting or engaging) to do. Open the map, stare at it and ull see. Nothing... The arcane sanctuary felt less lonely..
4:16 too funny
fuck rune words
As long as they add a tab for them cool
