I've been using Notability for more than a year now since I first got my latest iPad Pro. I wouldn't have noticed a change in how Notability provided the app services until I came across videos on youtube notifying me of the move to the subscription model. It's such a bullshit dick move from the developers. I don't care if there is "increasing costs" in covering server fees. I literally don't care. What pisses me off so much is the fact we're only given one year from today to use the existing features of Notability before we're forced to choose between a paid service that will keep the source code updated, OR keeping the free version that will eventually become obsolete.
To all the people who value their money: Do not subscribe to this app, this was a paid app and the developer out of nowhere switched to a subscription model and now wants people who already paid for the app once to keep paying them again and again. Your tiny asterisk in the corner says that the free version has most paid version features. They literally have a chart that shows out of the 7 features we currently use, only 3 will be carried over unless you subscribe. That asterisk is a lie.

Actually, they allow you to have a free subscription all the way to Nov 2022, but some websites say that you probably won't be able to use the app afterwards if you don't update and follow the subscription that Notability came up with, so it doesn't matter whether you update it or not. I was distraught when I saw your comment immediately after my app finished updating. It's really cheap of them to push us paid users onto subscriptions and threaten to take away what we've paid for in the past unless we pay again. Will be switching to GoodNotes immediately after my free window of subscription ends

Followed your videos and progress for a long time. Personally I‘m super disappointed that you decided to promote an app that pretty much scammed it‘s userbase. I...don't really know how to feel about this video. I've been a constant big fan of this channel ever since end of 2020 when I discovered it, and always massively enjoyed every single video put out. Now I found out that Notability has switched to a subscription-based app, when I've been a paid user since late 2020, and that Nasir is pushing it due to a sponsorship, when it's not only not beneficial to existing users, it is also quite cheap seeing that I didn't think that he would stoop down to this level and pull his audience along like this. First of all, I'm not saying that it's 100% his fault and that this video shouldn't exist. Whatever cheap gimmicks come from Notability, and not this channel. I just want to say I'm quite disappointed, although not very surprised seeing as a sponsorship is very desirable, no matter the creator. As of the new update to Notability (version 11.0), the developer has stated those who purchased the app before it was free will only have the functionality they paid for, for the next year, and will then be downgraded to the free version. This is against App Store guidelines section 3.1.2(a) which states that an app switching to a subscription model cannot remove features for those who have previously purchased the app.
I used notability and good notes for a semester each and I just have to say that the entire time I was using good notes, I was tremendously missing notability. It is so much better in nearly every way. There were maybe one or two things that I preferred in good notes but with this new update, it makes it worth it to switch back to notability. Good notes also would have trouble uploading documents at times and specific documents would import with half the text missing. The new feature where you can add dividers within dividers is unbelievably useful. Not a sponsor but seriously if you have to choose one, choose notability! I could go on and on about all the ways in which it's better but go and try for yourself! Never switching from notability again!

great video, but why doesn't anyone talk about one note? 1. it has the same file organization system as notability 2. it has a dividers function which you talk about, as subpages within pages 3. it has a scanning feature too 4. you can search all your notes, even if it's in pictures. 5. doesn't have a gallery feature, but you can literally do this on any other file sharing platform 6. one note has multi-device access too, whether it be windows or mac! 7. one note has the same if, not better level of customizability 8. it has a dictation feature too. I really don't know why ur paying for an app, when one note does all of this and its available for free!

Thanks for the intro to the new features! As much as I appreciate the nested dividers, I would like the ability to “divide” my subjects since the subjects have the color bar.
Everyone in these comments is slamming Nasir for making a sponsored video and promoting notability's decision to force existing paid users to pay once again and annually for new features. You guys have to realize that Notability simply makes no money after you pay for the app. You can use the app for the rest of your life and get insane usage out of it and Notability will get nothing. For the amount of use this app gets by it's users - it's only smart as a business to do this, regardless if their customers may be on a budget. You are saving money by not having to buy paper pens and colors, and you get access to features that aren't even possible without notability or an ipad. This is an evolution for the app and it's users. The new features will benefit everyone and there is STILL THE FREE VERSION. Nasir probably wouldn't promote a product he didn't support as well.

Not gonna lie i was kind of upset when I saw that Notability switched to a subscription-based system, but after updating the app and playing around I can totally see why they did that. This update is a complete overhaul of the app and it's everything i've wanted for about 6 YEARS (i've been using it since highschool, now a PhD student) so ill throw my hands up and admit it's totally worth it!!

Thanks for the intro to the new features! As much as I appreciate the nested dividers, I would like the ability to “divide” my subjects since the subjects have the color bar.
I do not have the extra features even after updating. I deleted the application and put it back on and still no extra features.

Everyone in these comments is slamming Nasir for making a sponsored video and promoting notability's decision to force existing paid users to pay once again and annually for new features. You guys have to realize that Notability simply makes no money after you pay for the app. You can use the app for the rest of your life and get insane usage out of it and Notability will get nothing. For the amount of use this app gets by it's users - it's only smart as a business to do this, regardless if their customers may be on a budget. You are saving money by not having to buy paper pens and colors, and you get access to features that aren't even possible without notability or an ipad.
This is an evolution for the app and it's users. The new features will benefit everyone and there is STILL THE FREE VERSION.
Nasir probably wouldn't promote a product he didn't support as well.

Hmm i dont think that you are pushing the monthly thing that people say you are doing and are supposedly making things worse, but i gotta say that that was a surprise notability has given to its new users by switching to subscription based( not that it is too expensive ). But its not your mistake, so i dont know why they are blaming you, keep it up bud.

Not gonna lie i was kind of upset when I saw that Notability switched to a subscription-based system, but after updating the app and playing around I can totally see why they did that. This update is a complete overhaul of the app and it's everything i've wanted for about 6 YEARS (i've been using it since highschool, now a PhD student) so ill throw my hands up and admit it's totally worth it!!

I’ve always wanted Notability and Goodnotes, but nothing beats pencil and paper. And yes, I’ve received a lot of flak for using a pencil 😂
