Thanks for showing how it's done Dave, I recently built my own forges (gas and coal), and have been practicing the craft. These will be great for my bushcraft meals.

Just a thought for all suggestions of a Horizontal pig tail, it would be in a bind constantly from the meat making it a pain to move and most likely be very hot as well making it not real safe, the squirrel cooker or horizontal rod is just better adapted for that purpose.

That's way better than the one I tried to make! I should have watched this first. Time to start over, again.

Mountain man grill, this one is so cool, I seen this while camping once but theirs was bigger, Nice set up hmm another thing for me to make but I will have to use a sliding tube with bolt to hold up on that main pole. Thanks Dave!!!!! Such a Busy Man I enjoy your videos and other show as well.

Dave, how about a double coil for your swing arm cooking irons? You could have a pot hook, a pan ring, and a meat fork all on the same pole?
All you need to do is make the coils 90 degrees apart in two axis. It would be small but useful.

Instead of the pig-tail on the attachments, you could just make a vertical ring on your pig-tail that adjusts vertically that could accept any horizontal attachment. Then you could make your meat fork, your pot hook, your pan holder, etc. and you could easily adjust for distance from the fire without moving your stake just by sliding the rod through the ring.

Okay, so just a flat pig tail. Great. Out of all the systems you showed yesterday, this was my favorite. Sure beats my method of finding a flat rock and throwing it in the fire, ha.

If you use the rounding face of your hammer in conjunction with the horn of the anvil it speeds up the drawing out process considerably.

Hey Dave.....If you made the stake end loop larger you could use a wooden stake and eliminate the need to carry another piece of metal....

You could extend the pigtail past the rod about 6" to make a handle to make adjusting / swinging the item easier.

Dave, Thank you for the follow up on the swing arm cooker, it caught my eye in your last video, excellent information, heck I can make that and I will. One question, that vice in the start of this video.. what type is it, I just seen one that I might be able to pick up... what is the value or should I offer, it's in great condition.Great video.

Great video as always, Dave. I had a thought for possible future blacksmith projects. As you are always tool minded, perhaps you could try making a broach, a rasp, and a file. Files have been used by blacksmiths for centuries, but it is one tool they are least likely to make themselves. I have seen videos on making broaches (by machinists), but not by blacksmiths.
Just some food for thought. Keep up the great videos.

If you was to make two pig tails at right angles to one another, one over your upright piece. The other have a your meat fork on. You would have your vertical then horizontal. Just an idea. Love the videos

you could have a meat fork if you made a rod with a pigtail and used a squirrel cooker arm to go over the fire, you'd just have figure out the angle for the arms second pigtail.

Wouldn't it work well for the meat fork if you had it like a double arm. One could come off the main bar and have an upwards right angle and then you could attach a meat fork to that. It would give a lot of options on positions.

What if you made a fork that was straight on the back end and made a double pigtail that was offset at an angle, one end for your vertical rod and the other for the fork?

    • @Tutorp
      @Tutorp 8 лет назад +2

+Lucas Starbuck My thoughts exactly. It should work, though you'd probably have to experiment a fair bit to get the double pigtail right. I suspect it would be best to have two to three complete rotations (with some "height" to them) on the pigtail going on the ground rod, for added stability. But this is just my uneducated guess.
