- From: AWESOME IS THIS PLACE: The Music of Guillaume Dufay
This program presents creative arrangements of favorite works by Guillaume Dufay - considered the foremost European composer by his 15th-century contemporaries - alongside the compositions of modern medieval luminary Shira Kammen. Though written centuries ago, many of the texts on this program have a strong sense of place recognizable to us today - like a beloved home, a garden, or a place of spiritual worship.

SHira Shira Shira!!! 😍❤
❤
Thank you for this moment of joy and beauty!
This ensemble is so cool! The music was played beautifully I could listen to this for hours 😁I’m a bassoonist and seeing and hearing the Ducian in context with other instruments was so cool!
Double reeds are so magical in every century! (Ben still plays bassoon as well : )
Wonderful, peaceful and atmospheric! Looking at the ensemble playing, I am taken by the smiling faces of joy as this ancient music comes to life.
Hi Niccolo! Good to hear your plucked vielle.
My standard question to medieval musicians - where can I access sheet music for Dufay, de Machaut and others? The absence of ‘the big book of…’ leaves me with only the Cantigas de Santa Maria and a handful of other works as complete; the rest is so scattered amongst numerous anthologies.
Thanks for your lovely music.
Martin
What is that small reed instrument? not a high shawm? is it a duduk? Really cool timbre.
Yeah, me too, maybe it's the doucaine? The bray harp slays me, and the arrangement...I am not contained!!! Thankyou so very much Alkemie and Shira.
it is indeed a douçaine! a soprano-sized one (they exist in SATB sizes)
