Unfortunately, it has been confirmed that by the end of February 2021, this signal will be taken down and replaced with modern signals. A new relay case and crossing bases are in place and they are almost ready to put in the new signals take out the old signal. It was definitely an amazing wig wag while it was still standing, I will miss it.
That's too bad... of course, seeing how fast the trains go on that line, I guess it was inevitable they'd replace the wig-wag with crossing gates at some point.
Dwarfed and outgrown by a world that moved on and forgot. And yet, in the only way it can, it still tries to keep the grand children of those who built it safe. "Hello, everyone. Please be mindful." Seeing that gargantuan freight go rushing through the emptiness, eager only to get back to population-- the tiny little signal just going courageously on with the only work it's ever known, like a grandfatherly old robot. It's both inspiring and heartbreaking, all at once.
Excellent video and crossing! Glad to see you’ve recorded the Wig-Wag on this line! Great catch with the BNSF Tower train as well! BNSF trains sure seem very rare to catch on the Raton Sub too!
I hate to be the person to tell you the truth but, the wig wag was removed on February 28th of this year. If you did catch it before then well, lucky you. If you didn't well, the good news is that I heard that the Wig Wag is going to some museum, I can't remember where, possibly the Colorado Railroad museum, but I'm not sure.
@@Cal90208 I was on the Southwest Chief train in 2009 and I pass this wig wag railway crossing signal and I never seen it because I did not know that wig wag railway crossing signal was there.
GREAT catches and thanks for sharing! LOVE this VERY interesting Wig-Wag and sad to see it go but that was expected. Looks like there was only ONE on one side of the crossing? LOVE all the VERY fast Amtraks! Just amazing that just those two engines can pull and push all that weight in the last clip of the wind turbines. Watch out for rattlesnakes out there while filming! (I will have to see on the map where Delhi is at.)
You appear to be the last one to photograph freight at this crossing. Excellent work keeping an eye on movements and getting in place for this rare appearance.
the first 12 miles on the Redding Mountain line are in active with the other miles be abandoned. The old locomotives that would run by the yard by a lake were taken by train after the years of them being in used 1998-2016. and when the locomotives were taken to a shop. They were restored and put on a new tour railroad that doesn’t run by the lake in the mountains of Redding. Instead. They were taken to a brand new railroad that runs by a beach far away from Redding. Some railroad crossing were removed as well as a dock by the lake. And there is other most abandoned crossings that u can still see.
@@LongmontRailway27 I don't think so but one of the locomotives involved which was an SDP40F was rebuilt into F40PH 281 which is still around today. Camera Man Railfan explained that accident.
Great video! That’s the first time I’ve seen a freight train pass that crossing! Did you happen to have any cell phone service in that area? It seems really isolated.
This wigwag is in really excellent condition. It's too bad there isn't a companion on the other side of the tracks. Does anyone know if this is a local road or a long driveway? I guess I'm asking where does this road go?
Unfortunately living history transitioned to actual history on March 9th, 2021. I never saw a unicorn at this location: like freight, rail grinder, or similar.
It still does its just for them too. The Tower trains usually go up to somewhere in Wyoming, they take Raton Sub between Trinidad and La Junta because there's a tunnel on the Spanish Peaks Sub that they cant fit in.
@@LongmontRailway27 Glad to see there is still an occasional freight along with the Chief. I thought they did not use it at all anymore. I rode the Chief through there in 2014.
It's cool that you caught a freight train, the chances of seeing a freight train on that line are about the same of me getting a girlfriend. Also where did the train come from? And what are those pipes being used for?
Those wind turbine towers are most likely manufactured at the Vestas factory in Pueblo. It seems out of the way to ship them south to Trinidad then northeast to La Junta, but the factory is on the south side of Pueblo.
Well the line is former ATSF which is now BNSF, BNSF still owns it and they can send whatever trains they feel like through there! Usually the trains that go through there are Mow, High Wide, military, storage movement, or reroute trains, also now you’ll see UP coal trains go through there I think.
That cable is a standard transportation rated signal cable. It has 10 no. 14 solid wires inside to carry power and 4 pair (2pr east/2pr west) of signal wires to a case in a typical install.
They're actually saving money, since the newer signals are cheaper to maintain, less moving parts, and easier to find said parts. But I will agree it is really unfortunate that it was replaced, glad it's preserved though!

Certainly nice to see freight trains traveling on this line again. Thank you so much for posting this!
If you're within a few hrs of Delhi, CO -- You had better go see it. The BNSF is slated to remove this signal by month's end.
Nice to see a freight train passing this historic wig-wag on what is basically a passenger-only line.
Agreed!

Yeah it is kinda rare to see freight here! Thanks!
Looking back on this video, this is definitely one of the best ones of this crossing out there!
Excellent video, crossing, and great catch of the rare BNSF Tower train! Glad the Wig Wag signal is still hanging on as well!
I can’t believe the last mainline Wig Wag is still there! I want to see it some day

Lucky to find freight; true unicorns at this location.
They're not crazy rare but, definitely a lucky catch
Delhi, CO, despite being a ghost town, still needs to pay an electrical bill because of this crossing!
I actually think BNSF has to pay for it, since its a private company

this is the best delhi wig-wag video. nice to hear the train and wig-wag music as the 73 windmill sections go by.
Awesome! Did you get any videos of the semaphore signals?
Yes indeed!
Good. I got a video on my camping in New Mexico. Sadly we didn't come through Denver or else I would've seen you.

Looks like there had been another Bnsf before the windmill train Cosidering those box cars in the back round.
those are all stored cars, they’ve been around for a while
great catches and video of the southwest chiefs and the BnSF tower train as well at the wig wag
nice catches with some good horn action also
It really sucks that BNSF trains are now like a 1 in a million chance of being seen on the Raton sub nowadays.
Yeah, imagine how cool it'd be to see daily freight back in the day
That is probably the main reason this location is stuck in time. The lack of freight preserves this living history.

This wigwag is in really excellent condition. It's too bad there isn't a companion on the other side of the tracks. Does anyone know if this is a local road or a long driveway? I guess I'm asking where does this road go?
Its just a dirt covered county road that branches off US 385, doesn't really lead to anywhere
Nice grab of something other than Amtrak going through there! Too bad this last wigwag is now gone.
You never see a freight train roll across the Delhi wig wag crossing
Nice Catches! Though Sadly the wigwag is gone.. but at least they will keep at at a museum instead of trashing it.
The wig wags are old & GOLD 🏅
Genuinely shocked that this wig-wag is still allowed to operate in 2020, even with high-speed passenger trains passing through it regularly.
Yeah me too!
Well if you think about it the E units were going the same speed
Unbelievable it"s lasted that long in service! Is that the only one left? How many semaphores?
@@jeremyamundsen537 Only one on a mainline.
Why did the first train need 3 engines to pull 6 cars? Was one of the locomotives being moved?
Idk, sometimes they just put extra power on trains
I like the BNSF tower train passing by the wig-wag because it is my first time watching a freight train going by this grade crossing.
I saw the first BNSF train on this video
