  • The Alarippu was the first piece I learnt in the traditional repertoire of Bharatanatyam. The intention of the piece (as is evident from its name), is the blossoming of the dancer's body in preparation for the Margam.
    A well-executed Alarippu, I have come to understand, is characterised by precision, anga shuddham, and a certain ease in the nature of a blossoming.
    This version of the Chaturashra Alarippu was taught to me by my Guru Vidushi Mrudula Rai.
