- 22 A Million is one of our favorite albums, and we cannot give enough praise to Justin Vernon and his brilliant use of the OP-1 by Teenage Engineering. CREEKS struck me the instant I heard it, and we finally got around to trying our hand at a cover. Enjoy!
wasnt expecting the cello and the piano. it added beautifully!
This is beyond epic ❤
Great job guys
Amazing cover. does anyone else just want to hug bon iver
This is amazing! Love the emotion behind it.

That's such a compliment, both are incredible! Thanks for watching
Great!
504 views. What?! Come on. This is class.
That's so nice, thank you! I'm happy with 5 views, so 500 is great!
Really love this so hope the tutorial for the OP-1 comes soon!
This week! :)
tutorial?
Rita Michelle can't wait for it!
??????
Hey! I'm so sorry for the delay (life gets a little busy) but I promise you it's coming soon! We will put the set in a dropbox link so you can play around with it in Ableton after Ryan explains what he did. :)
this is so good holy shit
Thank you! :)
Soooo good. I'm definitely hanging for your instructional video as well!! Y'all still planning on doing it?
Thank you! We have been swamped with work and have tried numerous times to sit down and do it, and it just hasn't happened. I'm so so sorry about that! BUT we have been working on new content, so hopefully that will make up for my failure to make the tutorial? :)
This is seriously choice. Almost as good as the original, honestly.
The female vocals give it a distinctly different feel, but in a good way.
Any chance you'd be willing to share the chords for this? I really want to try multitracking it but I can't find a good source for each part.
Hey thanks so much! We will be posting a tutorial and linking up the set so anyone can do this! :)
That's awesome! Thank you so much.
Hey Rita when will you guys be doing a tutorial? Are you in the LA area?
Brilliant! What software was used for the vocoder?? Sounds great!
Ableton Live with stock plug-ins :) thank you!
fucking well done wow
Thank you!
How did you use the OP-1 as a vocoder? Great cover by the way.
Thank you! Ryan set up Ableton to control my voice by playing the OP-1. We considered posting a tutorial on how we tried to recreate the sound, is that something you would be interested in?
Yes please!
Rita Michelle a tutorial would be awesome. Thinking of getting an op1 and always like learning new tricks:)
Great version guys!
Please do a tutorial!!!
Yes we want a tutorial on this process!
How did u guys use the OP-1 as a vocoder ? Do u only use it as a midi keyboard to run through Software ?
You got it!
Okay, now I'll get my op1 out. Can you tell me the chords you played? :*
Hey awesome cover guys! Can I ask how you use the op-1 as a vocoder?
Hey! Thanks! I've been trying to work on a tutorial, it's kind of complicated ;) but we basically turned the op-1 into a MIDI controller and used Ableton to create the vocoder! There are a few ways you can get these sounds, that's what we did for this. You can also use Melodyne which Imogen Heap uses to get her sound (I believe, but not sure on this). I hope that helps!
CAN PLEASE ANYBODY TELL ME HOW TO DO THIS ON ABLETON GODDAMMIT??? :O
How did you get this affect?
vocoder
I promise, I promise, a tutorial with Live set will come soon! Patience is so nice (life has been a little nuts lately)
are you gonna make that video soon? :P
any news concerning the tutorial? :)
So the tutorial never came out, right? Not cool since so many people asked for it and almost three years has passed after you pratically "promised" to do it.
Cool cover tho, you definetely nailed it :3
Very nice vocal delivery and neat vocoder sound (but not a big fan of the strings and piano adds unfortunately).
Also using the OP-1 as controller brought much interest and curiosity by both Bon Iver fans and TE users, so props to you for the clever move ;)
Hey! Thank you for this, I needed to hear it. Yes, I did say I would post the tutorial, and yes, it was never made. I'm not going to give you any excuses, that wouldn't be right. I'm genuinely sorry to disappoint you. I will answer any questions you have, either here in the comments or you can message me! Again, I apologize and I truly appreciate your view, comment, and call-out haha. We love Bon Iver and TE! I am happy we brought those fans/users together with this!
Hey. It’s my fault. I’m the guy to the left in the video. Rita has asked me like 30 times to show how I did it and I have just never made it a priority. My bad.
@@RitaMichelle no problem ;) I know sometimes is hard to please everyone, especially when the request comes in large numbers
I did some experimentations with my gear and I found a way to achieve a satisfying result, a bit different from yours but more personal. I just have to work around some kinks and then I will try to make a cover of this and see if it works just fine ^^
Keep up the good work!
@@fatherson6206 don't worry, I'm sure you have good reasons.
But I think you can come up with a simple and quick tutorial/demonstration pretty easily and in no time, just to show your solution to the people that have absolutely no clue on how to do this ;)
I don't think it would be necessary to be super specific, just give these guys something to work with and they'll be happy.
You look like a cool and clever guy, I'm sure you can do it (when you'll have time of course).
@@fatherson6206 would still love to see this as a tutorial in ableton, or perhaps there is a rack that can be made available, or cut down ableton project file that people could use to work it out. If the midi for what was used as the vocoder carrier was in there, that would be double awesome. You really made a good job of that “prismizer” sound and if it is stock ableton plugins that’s incredible. Lots of others around recreate it with Antares harmony engine and still don’t get it right (myself included). Anything you can post or upload would be great and I’m sure hugely appreciated by anyone who finds this video and is interested in how to do it.
Op1 boss..
I agree
