    MY MOM: RUclips COOKING INSTRUCTOR
Includes video of our visit to my mom`s village in Hoiping. Also a brief history of how she learned to cook authentic Chinese food, Chinese Canadian cooking and Western cooking. This video was produced as a family history project for the PCHC Museum of Migration/ U.B.C. Library. I attended 3 video production workshops. The first workshop was at The U.B.C. Learning Exchange with U.B.C. Professor Henry Yu. The 2nd workshop was at the Asian Centre at U.B.C. faciliated by Sarah Ling and Joanna Yang. The 3rd workshop was at the Computer Lab at the Buchanan Centre at U.B.C. lead by film maker Alejandro Yoshizawa. I got an opportunity on June 4, 2016 to do a presentation of my video projects at the Asian Centre at UBC. The president of PCHC Museum Of Migration, Winnie Cheung, welcomed all the guests in attendance.

Your mom is a great cook for us hoi san people. It is great to hear people speaking our dialect in your old videos. Reminded me of when I was growing up here in the US. Your Chinese is still pretty good. I can still understand most of it but really can't even hold a conversation anymore since my parents passed away many years ago. When you stop using it you forget it. Thanks again for all these videos. A real treasure trove.

You're very welcome. My mom is happy to share her recipes. I have learned to cook a lot of these recipes since I started to record them for RUclips. Your grandmother must have put a lot of care when she cooked so you must have a lot of good memories of her and also of her cooking. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Thanks for checking out my video on MY Mom: RUclips Cooking Instructor.

Love your videos! I'm so glad that you're recording your mother's recipes & techniques. They are reminiscent of my late mother's cooking. There's a new generation who didn't learn all this at home because their parents had become too westernized. Your mom will be introducing them to what they missed at home.

Well done! What a precious video about your mother and family. This style of cooking (village) is such a treasure and I'm so glad you and your mom are sharing it here. My grandmothers both made similar dishes for us while growing up and spoke with the same village accent. I'm so happy to see your mom was finally able to try the clay pot rice! Thank you again for sharing here. I look forward to seeing more videos from your mom :)

Great to hear your roots are from the same area in southern China. I often tell my mom that viewers are so happy to hear about her recipes. I have taken her cooking for granted but so many viewers are rediscovering this kind of cooking, and others are discovering it for the first time. Thanks for your kind words. Thanks for checking out my video on my mom.

Dan, Excellent footage, my guess is everyone who came to Gold Mountain had to cook all their hometown goodies, otherwise live off of bread, meats & potatoes. As far as I remember, we did all of our goodies mixed in with Mexican & Caucasian foods, Instead of authentic recipes, they were a variance, mainly for the kids to enjoy it. Glad you shared this vlog, Thanks.

The early immigrants ate foods they were familiar with in China I remember when I was young, some Canadian born Chinese people invited us over for western style dinner. We had hot beef sandwich and cubed cantaloupe with ice cream. We were so impressed with that dinner. A few years later, I started working in my grandfather's restaurant, so I became totally familiar with western food. Later, like you, we ate all kinds of ethnic food, often mixed together. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Thanks for viewing my video on mom.

I think that's so cool. as I was raised in a predominately Mexican town near Phoenix AZ. I ended up eating alot of Mexican foods, then when Mom cooked up a dish of hum mah gee yuk or hum yee gee yuk, it freaked us out & the smell. quite a difference, I don't think I tasted a cha siu bao until I was about 12. We had your basic Chinese foods like chow faan. Tha was a popular dish with my friends. Totally different from being born overseas & an ABC.

Greetings to you in Guatemala. Thanks for checking out on my mom's story. Just curious- do you have Chinese food that is influenced by Guatemala way of cooking. For example, using ingredients and spices popular in Guatamala? Thanks for checking out my video on My Mom: RUclips Cooking Instructor. Your kind words are much appreciated.
