Thank so much for this recipe. My husband always buy the bottled ones at the store. We love it as an appetizer....I will try it and compare it to the bottled one. Mahalo from Vancouver, Canada.❤❤❤
Please let me know how you like it. My daughter in Hawaii loves this recipe. Whenever I go there I always buy her 6 cans. When I was there I asked how many she had. She said 6 because she didn't want to run out so I bought her more. She hates going to Chinatown.
Thank you so much! I cannot find this on Kauai and miss it! Your recipe has brought me much joy!! We ate it all in just a couple of days...need to make more. Mahalo nui!
Glad you enjoy it I love to try and duplicate what I see in the stores. If I like it I will make it over and over until the taste is right. It's a challenge. Thanks for subscribing.
Yessss! Thanks for the video. This is one of my favorite things that you make. Love this with hot rice 😋 I’m going to make this soon but... where in Chinatown can I find that can of bamboo??
Will try this and add it to jazz up my ramen. Does it taste as good with fresh refrigerated bamboo shoots ? Have you made the Chinese spicy turnips sold in the can or package . It was in large round pieces that were sliced and fried with pork or beef. Some cook it with noodles Do you remember having this ?
Yes, I think it is called see chin choy and it's mostly the bottom of the turnip without any leaves. It's probably salted and packed with lots of salt and chili pepper paste. My mom used to soak it cause it was very salty and put it in steamed pork hash along with the pickled sweet cucumbers in the can or jar (cha gwa).
I visited your website looking for list of ingredients to send to mom but could not find it. Your website is hard to navigate without a search function. May i suggest adding an index and/or search function ?
I'm sorry, the search function costs more money and I'm not able to do it, it's just a hobby for me and don't get much money. If I had a million subscribers, perhaps. Thanks for asking.
@@HawaiisPickleLady it's a lovely channel and appreciate the response. The index might work.. just add sections with titles that people.can click.. I was a web developer and can help if you guys want..regardless.. love the channel.. Keep it up!
I needed this recipe. Those little jars just don't last for how many times I eat them. Thanks Aunty🤙

Thanks for the video. I'm going to make some. Happy to hear it stays crunchy after cooking.
You can get one of those Mandoline Slicers and you can slice the bamboo in that can any way you like, quick and fast and precise.
I like chunky pieces.
@@HawaiisPickleLady You can slice it into thick slices also. The thickness of the slice is adjustable. Then cut the slices into chunk.
Thanks for sharing. I love the commercial ones but not a fan of the preservatives. Could these be jarred and frozen? Maybe water bath canned?
I think freezing would change the texture. It probably can be canned but never tried. Experiment.
Thank you for sharing this recipe. I will try it. 🙏🙏😍😍
It's just like what they sell in jars in Chinatown.
Thankee!🤙
Too much oil for my liver.

Go to Canton Mkt on King Street on the mauka side.
Hey, I was just down there and could have bought you a can!!
@@mwong5427 you better believe that this was the first thing I requested upon arrival!! Hahaha
How long will this last in the refrigerator?
Several weeks.
Can I use chili powder that's American? Or is it not very good?
Chili powder is different, has oregano, garlic, etc. Use straight chili flakes.
At abbi castillo we can do this!
Great DIY recipe. I find some the oil in the packaged bamboo shoot to be rancid.
Don't know what kind of oil they use. Plus they have preservatives and maybe msg.
