    I prefer the cold chemical toner transfer method by use of nail polish remover. Furthermore I don't leave a lot of copper area on the PCB surface. Often it forms unwanted capacitance. For etching I use a mixture of H2O2 (30%), HCl (30%) and water. For 1 Liter I fill 0.5 Liters of water and give 0.25 Liters of HCl and finally 0.25 Liters of H2O2. The etching process lasts for 2 to 4 minutes without underetching. Before etching I make sure that no rests of paper are left on the copper surface. After etching and washing with clear water by use of steal whool and I cover the copper surface with a solderable layer of colofonium in ethanol. So you need no additional flux for soldering.

    I used to do this a lot back in HS (early 1980's). At that time, you could buy a bottle of liquid FeCl3 from Radio Shack. It said right on the bottle to dispose of the used fluid by flushing it down the toilet. Not kidding. Anyway, I haven't made a PCB in years because there are professional board houses that will do it cheap. Also, these days it's rare for me to design a board with less than 4 layers. Doing even 2 layers with the technique shown here is a royal pain.

    • @EslamsLab
      @EslamsLab  6 лет назад +3

      +Rick West for me and you it seems fine to access companies that offer professional pcb's but there are many people around the world needs to make it by themselves
      Also if you need it immediately you have to make it yourself
      But anyway you are right
      You said 1980's
      Man you are electronics master now :)
      Will be glad if you have time to tell me more
      Thank you

      Eslam's Lab boards I design today are usually far too complex for techniques like this. Back around 1986, I did build a parametric equalizer for my car stereo with these techniques. I got the design and layout from a magazine.
      Actually, I just remembered using the rub-ons for that project. Didn't transfer toner as shown here.

      Acetone (like in nail-varnish remover) seems a better solution for toner transfer than heat. And instead a messy FeCl3 you can use cheap B327 etchant, which is transparent and gently turns blue as gets used up (and you don't need to stir it up constantly, if you have a spare fish tank air pump).

    • @VANEPS7
      @VANEPS7 4 года назад

      The process requires toner-not ink.

    Hey! Really great video! I really enjoyed it! I'm also going to do it using your method! Just something I noticed though, you know at the end when you were soldering, there was some minor problem; I think you didn't heat the pad and used too much solder. Remember that the capilary effect won't happen on single layer boards. Brilliant video though! Thanks for making it! :-D

      Thank you antony for your encouragement

      Thanks again :)

    Hello @Eslam's Lab, thanks for sharing with us. The knowledge is very useful. Anyway I have some questions to ask.
    1. At 2.18 , did u use general laminator or special laminator for pcb ?
    2. How much eye drops of H2O2 (Hydrogen Peroxide) to make FeCl2 working properly ?
    3. What did you do with the solvent after use ? Throw it away to the sewer directly or else ?
    Once again, thank you.

    • @EslamsLab
      @EslamsLab  3 года назад +1

      I'm using modified paper laminator
      Just hacked it to fit the pcbs
      Also hacked the temperature set point

    • @EslamsLab
      @EslamsLab  3 года назад +1

      H2o2 is not really necessary i use it to accelerate the process but this days I'm not using it anymore
      You can deactivate the solvent using some (koh) potassium hydroxide
      That makes it not corrosive anymore

      Actually I'm not chemicals expert and when i learned this i wasn't have enough knowledge
      But right now I'm using ammonium persulfate it gives clear solution and only etch the copper not other metals

    Instead of Ferrum Chloride use Hydrogen Peroxyde + salt + lemon acid with hot water. It takes a little more time but it's way safer and more affordable.

    • @EslamsLab
      @EslamsLab  6 лет назад

      Wow i should try this looks really safer

    • @SteelyGlow
      @SteelyGlow 6 лет назад

      Water is needed only when hydrogen peroxyde is more than 5%.
      Usually I use 100 ml of H2O2 (3%), 6 teaspoons of lemon acid and 3-5 teaspoons of salt.

    • @EslamsLab
      @EslamsLab  6 лет назад

      i'm using 100% hydrogen peroxide it's very dangerous

    I was wondering why your toner looked so nice and even, but I guess if you’re using a $2,100USD printer (Kyocera FS-2020D) you are likely to get better results than a $100 laser. Not really an option for most people, and for that amount of money you could get a reasonably nice desktop CNC system that will mill the traces and allow you to drill holes with excellent precision!

      +flomojo2u actually i got this printer for only what equal 75$ here in Egypt it's used printer comes from Germany i think :)

    why dont you get off of those useless copper in the circuit commonly it will just become one of the reason for short circuit. we're advice to get rid of those unnecessary parts which are not use for connections

    Professional is a lie. It's nice work.. Don't get me wrong... But the uv method is the only one you can really call professional. Industry doesn't use toner transfer they use riston uv photo resist and either a film/glass mask or dlp for pattern. I built a cupric bubble tank and vacuum press exposure box at home with out following a tutorial other than how to mix cupric from pool acid copper scraps and peroxide. Chem isn't my strongest subject and I didnt want to die so I did my homework and it turned out great. vacuum pull down 365nm led box.. With low iron Glass on the vac panel so it passes more uv than normal glass or plexi. etch tank I made up on the fly. Vacuum pump from ebay for 10bucks, 30 bucks at digikey for led and pets store for air pump. I had a stack of plexi and used acetone and later tried paint thinner for welding. Both work. Bench power supply or dc to DC units are required
