Thank you ,good video for a beginner axe thrower. The point on weight is very important , especially for a beginner . Like a bow or throwing knives you risk shoulder injury . Better to get your technique down first then build up the weight . Our you’ll be seeing an orthopedist or a P.T. Sébastien P.T.
The Cold Steel design is nice and slim in the head for UK competition throwing, where we have weight restrictions. Good review, I prefer the slim head myself. I gather many of the more expensive axes from the same stable as yours, also have this slim design of head?
I picked up 2 watl axes @ $25 each on Amazon on sale off season. I had them bookmarked and grabbed them when i got a price drop alert. Reg. price is $50.
I recently bought two of the Gen 3 axes from WATL - the Ace of Spades and the Butcher. Those axes are heavy, but they throw really nicely and only require a small flick of the wrist once you have a good technique down 😁 the competition thrower is great for learning accuracy and rotation if you're looking to upgrade to the Gen 3's at some point
My experience with both says that the Cold Steel is much better. Something that wasn't covered is that the thickness close to the edge is much thicker on the WATL axe and that is more likely to bounce off. Not all WATL axes are like that, but to get a better axe, you'll pay between $50-150 more. If you are just having fun in the backyard, go with the Cold Steel and don't throw too hard.
All of our cold steel axes have come with a better edge than WATL axes. The cold steel is also better quality steel. Lastly cold steel won’t send you a badly hung axe.🤷🏻♂️
Good info! The $30 hatchet looks good/better for me. Thx!

I definitely like the pointy/sharper head.

I can tell the lighter axe throws quicker. I would try having your stance six inches closer to the target.
I still love my IATF axe. Throws like a dream

WATL is a stupid name. You can't pronounce it. Good axe.
