  • With two more OEMs adding bikes to the Super Naked group this year and no major updates to the Tuono lately, the question becomes is the Tuono still king of the Super Nakeds?

Hey I know this is an old comment but what's the status on your tuono now, and your opinion, 2 years later? I bought a 2020 tuono factory, have 6k miles on it and so far so good, but was wondering if you still have it, how many miles does it have, and what problems it gave you if any. Hearing it's lasted 15k miles is good news to me because I have no idea what to expect from it in the years

I don’t understand how people get such bad fuel consumption on them. I have a 17 factory and I can get 5.5L / 100 kms no problem. Even going hard on the throttle. I’ll get 200 kms until I hit the reserve light no prob. have even made it to 240kms before gas light.
    Great review.

I have 19 Factory and get about same gas mileage as you , however I only ride in country roads out of city limits so except while passing through small villages on the way with few lights the bike is always moving 99% of the times , I think that might be the key difference on getting good mileage

Loved your explanation on the rear brake and the ABS :) I felt that on my RT yesterday when a pedestrian crossed in front of me on a road. It was no emergency, as usually a short-break but I dual-braked and I could feel so well the rear break almost... there! :D

Hi Scott. I traded my 2018 factory Tuono for a 2019 with the electronic suspension. I have to say it is a game changer. I owned a BMW S1000R with electronic suspension and was never quite sure of it when pushing on. The Tuono system is different gravy. Just the best out there. If you can stretch to it, the 2019 Tuono smacks them all including the new Streetfighter. In your words it plays real hard.

Nice review NTP! I have this exact bike in that colour in my garage and have been falling in love with the thing since I bought it in November last year. I came off an MT10 onto this and largely agree with your comparisons/comments, although I would say that comfort is subjective and for me, the more forward (more tucked) natural position that you assume on the Tuono makes for a more comfortable ride with less wind blast (yes the mini screen helps too) and less weight through the spine over long journeys. Also, I've found the Tuono to consume a little less fuel (although not by much) than the MT, even though it inspires me to press on much more than the Yamaha did. A lot of people find similarity between the Aprilia V4 and Yam crossplane soundtrack, but for me at least in the real world, the Aprilia noise is simply unrivalled - the Italians hit the name on the nose - 'Thunder'. For anyone interested in these types of bike, you should make sure that you at least ride the Tuono before making judgement, there are no bad bikes in the category but the Tuono feels like something special every time you ride. Also, there was mention in this review of the jerky low down fuel mapping, counter-intuitively I've found that the RACE engine map smooths a lot of that effect out as it has the lowest engine braking. Awesome bike, I actually like the little protests you get at very low town speeds, reminding you that you're riding 95% of a superbike with flat bars :-)

I will be testing the SFV4S, Tuono and SDR 3 when looking for a replacement for my ‘17 S1000R. My track instructor has a ‘17 Tuono, and we talked and he still wonders if he should have bought the S1000R instead. I have not ridden the current batch but rode all bar the SF (obviously) in ‘17, and they were all quite different but at the time the ‘17 S1000R was for me. Will be very interested to see how the Beast 3 is an improvement on the SDR I rode, and if there is any change to the Tuono. I expect it will come down to the SFV4S (I have ridden the PV4S) and expect I will “land” on one of the Italian V4 bikes, because I have improved my skill set and the sound...SFV4S does have an edge on looks...nice time to have choices

Being a 2019 Tuono owner myself, I can tell you I love it a lot! Maybe the Ducati Streetfighter V4 has more power etc, but it's also a lot more expensive. Almost a new class on itself, Hyper Naked perhaps?

    • @fynn8252
      @fynn8252 4 года назад +1

After riding both, I still prefer the engine of the Tuono. The Aprilia has a much more usable power band and the chassis is unbeatable. The Ducati's engine is super smooth but you have to bring the RPM to 10,000 before you start getting all its power. In my opinion, the Street Fighter handles better and looks much sexier. Both great bikes but the Tuono may still hold the crown of hypernaked's.

The Tuono is an awesome motorcycle and probably the best bike in its class. Although the the servicing prices are sky high, the wait time for parts is up to 4 months in Australia. The QC with Italian motorcycles is just not as robust as a Japanese bike. Therefore parts fail frequently whether it's pitted cam shafts or water leaking into dash. Despite of all the flaws it's an amazing feeling to ride one of these. My suggestion is Buy a new one and sell it after 3 years. Like my man Ryan F9 from fortnine said "Buying a used Race Machine is like buying Grenade with its pin pulled out"

Very interested in your Ducati Streetfighter V4 S test... When you do that pay attention to the throttle and mapping. As from 2016 I found the Ducatis very snitchy/twitchy especially in the lower rpm. Also check wether this bike will blip in the low rpm. The 2016 XDiavel switched the rear cylinder off below 3000 rpm while down shifting and had a irritating delay when one wanted to blip between 3 / 2 / 1.... Please check this for us. I already hear the V4 switches off some cylinders in traffic! Will be interesting what you will find riding it in normal town traffic. Regards.

Tuono still top dog. Ducati V4 is too peaky(test drove it - very disappointing), you've got to rev the shit out of it to find the power and the Z h2 is too heavy to be classed as a true super-naked but the power is on tap from 3k onwards and is a blast to ride( test drove and bought it there and then). But i won't be chucking away the keys to my Tuono any time soon. It's light and got bags of grunt low down. Still the daddy.

Ive ordered a 2020 Factory with an akra slip on and the race map that it comes with. I was thinking about the Ducati streetfighter V4 but it cost almost 3k more and with a exhaust it will be 8k more (akra pipe for maintain the warranty) for the standard version. The Tuono spec vise is more like the streetfighter V4s with the electronic öhlins suspension and then we are talking 10k more. And even for 10k less the Touno still is the king in recent test as in the one from Mcn.

When I was shopping for my naked bike I looked at this the KTM, and the BMW. I’m a taller rider. The Aprillia bar placement was good, but the pegs were tight. The BMW had a weird long each to the bars. In the end I went with the KTM as the only one that physically fit me. It’s an all day long ride that doesn’t beat you up over the riding position.

According to the dyno that 44teeth use ,compared to the SFighter V4s, the Tuono makes MORE horsepower AND torque up to 9500 rpm. And the torque and power curves are a straight line. Having not ridden a V4S I can't speak to the rideability, but based on the dyno, the Tuono wins. The amount of time my Tuono has been above 10,000 rpm would be measured in minutes, while below10,000 would be many many hours. The V4s can rev it's nuts off and that's how it manages the crazy hp number, but in real life, it won't matter. Even IF the V4s is a slightly superior bike, once you factor in the price difference, it's a no-brainer. The tuono sounds better, is $9k cheaper, and makes more power and torque where you use it most. Also cruise control.

Ok, this is my honest American perspective on this matter: (note: after living here in Germany for 8 years now, and being married to a German for over 10 years now).
To be honest, this makes me very angry. If we accept this "logic", then all sports cars have to be included in this ban and personal aircraft and well we could go on...right? Otherwise we are singling out just one type of vehicle, saying it's ok for some but not for others. Several words come to mind: racism, bigotry, bias, intolerance, apartheid, chauvinism, prejudice, discrimination, this is really scary because what is the next step if this gets passed? Proponents of this will say that there will be no next step but history has shown us that there is always a next step...that is a fact.
If bikes are too loud then regulate the sound of the bike not all the owners of motorcycles, this is so asinine that it's unbelievable that educated, intelligent people in Berlin are even thinking about this, little alone passing a law.
It's time for German/Austrian people to change their thinking from regulate, regulate, regulate, to: start enforcing the laws that are already in place, simply because making more laws just punishes us normal people from doing what free citizens do every day. And then eventually we really are not free any more.🤔😒

Been there 4 times and called 2 times, and only made one video to show from my effort, the V2, so he said he will call me in a few weeks... I doubt he ever will unless I go back and pester him a few more times. Which I'm not a begger, nor is Ducati God's gift to motorcyclists. So too bad for Ducati, they will remain a niche motorcycle mfg. with this type of attitude towards the customers.

Which Kawasaki is "too nice". The H2-Z? Beginning to feel like there's a general distaste for Japanese bikes in Europe after binging several vids, or is it just this channel?

    • @NothingToProve

AT 16:19 I say the BMW "is too nice" too. So does that mean that I hate the European brands too? 🤣 Seriously though, if that's the impression you get from watching my channel then you are getting the wrong one. I try to be as objective as possible in every approach to each bike review. Sometimes much to the schagrin of the dealers that I work with.
But and here is my question to you, I really liked the ZH2 in the review video, did you watch that?

I really don't get clutch less up and down shifting, a smooth upshifter/blipper fine, but without it, I find it a bit like a Cowboy kicking a horse with spurs, not good for the horse and completely unnecessary!! Still each to their own!!

It sounds good. Probably the best of all naked bikes. It is definitely fast and I am sure it handles good. But it has too many negatives. The biggest negative being dealer support where I live. I have only ever seen maybe 2 of these on the road. Lots of Ducatis and lots of SDR. No Tuonos. Next who wants to spend all their time at the gas station. The dashboard is not great and the switch gear is terrible. Sorry guys but I will have to pass on this.

In my humble opinion this is not a bike to ride when you have nothing to prove. I have owned both the Super Duke R 1 gen. and the Tuono 1100 Factory. The problem with the Tuono is that it's to track focused. It's too hyper naked. Here in Scandinavia we have lots of back roads and the Tuono is superb when the surface is super slick. But when the roads gets rough its far too stiff especially if you have lots to prove. I found the SDR to be better and safer going fast on rough unknown roads, but only when the suspension is properly dialled in. A fast suspension for track is not fast for the road. Road suspension needs more travel. Think a rally car vs F1. My track setup for a bike is absolutely useless on the road and downright dangerous. I think the super naked should be the ultimate road weapon not track. Actually, your new Beemer has the potential to be a ferocious road weapon. A nothing to prove suspension is both faster and safer for the road 😊 I also found the quick shifter on the Tuono too slow. This combined with the heavy front bias made is less wheelie fun.

Why this is called a 'naked' while spotting almost full fairings and can mount a proper windshield and still not kill the looks, I wouldn't figure out, but the legions who swear by this bike I can figure out. That Mill. End.

I think this is the first time we disagree about a bike.
First of all, I would never ever consider the Tuono a Naked-Bike!
Second, because if she is, the old Suzuki Bandit S and the Honda CBF 1000 are too. But they are not!
Yes, she is a powerful bike and maybe the best choice for a trackday, but in no terms I would choose her over the sexiest bike alive, the Super Duke! But even if the SD wouldn't exist, there is always MV Agusta. Sadly those bikes are not that common, but so beautiful!

      Hi Simon,
No, we don't disagree, you disagree with the rest of the motorcycle community, the Tuono was the first to be called "super naked" about 18 years ago and then the segment started.
So I'm not the one that put it into the "naked" group 😁👌👍
I just have to treat it like one...that's all...because everybody else does.

@@NothingToProve Yes, I know that almost everyone calls her that, but technically she is not. Just like I said before.
Tbh, I even belong to another minority. Those who don't like the Tuono. I won't go into further detail, because I think that many people might want to punish me for blasphemy 😏😁
But I think she is not that good looking (quite the opposite) and doesn't sound that good. I saw her, I heard her and it was not for me.
But I admit that I have a very special taste and I have encountered many different types of disagreement for my opinions. But I don't care.
I'm not looking for support, but I think I'm entitled to have a mind of my own., just as everybody else.
      Btw...
I never said that you were the first person to call it Super-Naked. I just wanted to make my point why I think that she is not.
