If they kept him as an NPC in this game, there'd be practically no complaints considering their constant fictions with previous NPCs. We are FINALLY getting an Assassin’s Creed that takes place during Feudal Japan after so many fans have been clamoring for it for YEARS… …so why does this kind of feel underwhelming?
Because it came after Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh, Sekiro, Rise of the Ronin, Isshin, and other japanese feudal games that are highly praised while Ubisoft makes mediocre games at best for more than a decade. They took too long.
I get the same feeling, even if I remove my disdain for what this series has become, and my hatred for ubisoft as a company, it's easy to feel underwhelmed by this. Because they're late to their own trend, ac fans have been asking for a Japan game for years, but look at how many games set in this era or have used it as inspiration have released. Sekiro, nioh 1 and 2, rise of the ronin, not to mention the biggest elephant in the room ghost of tsushima. Which is basically everything we wanted from a potential Japan set Assassin's creed, leaves me feeling like it's too late, what's the point of this now.

The funny thing about this game is what will they be fighting for. Is it for justice for Nobunaga even though he beheaded men, women and children to unify Japan? Or will or be against him, which goes against not only Yasuke’s history but Mitsuhide, Oda’s killer, made Yasuke a slave again soon after.

He's a very interesting historical figure, but people are trying to make him into something he's not. If they kept him as an NPC in this game, there'd be practically no complaints considering their constant fictions with previous NPCs. Making him an MC at the last minute is practically the dictionary definition of tokenism.

Funny how people, all of the sudden want historical accuracy in AC games. Does that also mean Connor from AC3 is a product of tokenism? Pretty sure a half Native American wouldn't have the status to directly speak with George Washington and help influence the tide of the war.

We are FINALLY getting an Assassin’s Creed that takes place during Feudal Japan after so many fans have been clamoring for it for YEARS…

Because it came after Ghost of Tsushima, Nioh, Sekiro, Rise of the Ronin, Isshin, and other japanese feudal games that are highly praised while Ubisoft makes mediocre games at best for more than a decade. They took too long.
I get the same feeling, even if I remove my disdain for what this series has become, and my hatred for ubisoft as a company, it's easy to feel underwhelmed by this. Because they're late to their own trend, ac fans have been asking for a Japan game for years, but look at how many games set in this era or have used it as inspiration have released. Sekiro, nioh 1 and 2, rise of the ronin, not to mention the biggest elephant in the room ghost of tsushima. Which is basically everything we wanted from a potential Japan set Assassin's creed, leaves me feeling like it's too late, what's the point of this now.
Wait for gameplay before writing it off.
