Dude. What can we do to get more visibility for your channel? You've got great content! My advice for beginning backpackers is to start small and cheap when it comes to stoves. Most beginners are just going to boil water and pour it into a pouch. Or boil water for coffee, hot chocolate, tea our soup. In my experience, it takes a while to get comfortable enough in the backcountry to want to start getting adventurous with fancy meals. :-)

Thanks Jeff, and great advice! I think it’s probably the safer option in bear country to start that way too. Food prep in the backcountry is something most experienced people don’t do well.

Have you tried the twig stoves? They’re pretty great. Or the gel alcohol fire dragon? That boiled water very quickly for me and was so compact and easy to use. And no spills.

I’ll have to check out the fire dragon!!!! I have a couple twig stoves and they are a ton of fun, I just tend not to use them for cooking. Which twig stove do you like best?

@@BACKPACKERish I bought the Atiap titanium twig stove last winter and have used it to make coffee from snow and ice several times and last weekend I was backcountry camping and made several meals where I was boiling noodles and sautéing veggies. I got a little grill plate to use it for fish or meat, but haven’t caught a fish yet this year. (I had knee surgery in June so haven’t really been out fishing that much) I have been able to camp a little and also just cook with it in my fire pit. It’s amazing how a handful of twigs is plenty. Having the base wider than the top is a major bonus. I always feel like isobutane canister stoves are not stable enough.

I was surprised at how little fuel they need as well…and I always find myself digging my canister into the ground to keep it stable.

I actually picked up a new one this year because I hate the klymit static v insulated that I had. Picked up the big Agnes rapide…sooooooooo much better.
