Gotta admit, Dave's character really committed to playing a successful inventor deeply in love with his female wife instead of just being a closeted gay man leaving off his settlement from getting hit by a ball at a Dodgers game.
Though I do like the somewhat subtle hints through the movie that Dave's character isn't exactly who he says he is.

There was a mistake that happens a couple of times in the movie. When Palmer is with Jennifer Aniston's character, she calls her Delvin instead of Katherine.
that wasn't a mistake Adam sandlers character introduced Katherine as his wife Devlin so Palmer is the only one who thinks that is Katherines name :)
Katherine chose "Devlin" as her fake name when meeting Palmer, but it happened that the real Devlin was staying at the same hotel than them in Hawaii
For a long time, I couldn't recognize that Devlin was Nicole Kidman. She is such a terrific actress!
