Great video. The race context in your commentary is huge. Things like wind for sure and even gradient are hard to gauge from video so calling those out are nice. I feel like you're always good about pointing out even crosswind/stailwind stretches whereas some commentators only point out headwinds as if to justify their high watts and slower speed. I love how you overlay the wind info with the tactics in terms of where to or not to attack. The zoom detail was cool too but my favorite was pointing out all the Mike's Bikes guys. Some watchers may not even know what jersey are the Mike's bikes guys. It kills me when vloggers say, "My teammate there" and there's like four dudes on screen and we only know your teammate if we happened to watch that video a few ones back where you had the podium shot or whatever. Context counts and you do it better than any other vlogger I've seen. One thing that VC does a pretty good job of that you might consider is showing power stats for that last lap. Using TrainingPeaks or TrainerRoad or even Strava to dice the race up a bit. Granted it's what happened to your legs in the previous 49 laps that mattered but you really show what cornering and timing can accomplish because you would've expected that kind of ground gained to take way more watts than it did. I think a lot of us will write off our chances at things saying, well I don't have the w/kg numbers that these P/1/2 guys do when, sure, that's a factor but not the only factor.. Again, great video and thanks for taking the time to put these together.
Amazing closing speed and effort. Wow!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Great vid with the descriptions and zooming in and out helping to truly identify what it was you desired for us to see aiding in understanding the entire process. Thx!!!
Great videos of you crit racing! Some seriously strong riding you are doing and loving your commentary and race tactis over the top. Awesome work keep it up...from a keen cyclist in Perth Australia.
Funny that Team Oregon Rider (blue long sleeves) seemed to be attacking and trying to bridge the whole race. Maybe you should have worked with him more.
At the P/1 level would you say that proficient crit riders are a little more built than your traditional road racer? By build I mean muscular. Thank you in advance for your thoughts
Not really. Heavy guys suffer in flat crits too because of all the accelerations out of corners. You can only really draw a distinction between climbers and non-climbers. Think about the guys in the tour who are finishing at the end of a flat stage vs the guys who are finishing at the end of a hilly stage. Of course there are exceptions to both eg Caleb Ewan as a sprinter and Tom Dumoulin as a climber.
NorCal Cycling Videos yeah, those are all very good points. It just seems like most road guys all have a similar build except for climbers who are absolutely rail thin.
Hi there just found and subbed to your channel - not 1 hour ago YT recommended the vid of you beating Phil Gaimon (kudos sir) and having seen that, like and sub was a no brainer! Question: I don't race and so don't understand certain etiquette or behaviors - at 3:20 Mr. Blue Jersey gives Mr. Red Jersey a gentle shove - what is the meaning of that?
Thanks! Usually a push like that means give me space. Not sure in this case, i forgot the context, but they are friends so it may have just been goofing around.
Ah I see. Very interesting, thank you for responding. Looking forward to catching up on your content - thanks and have a great rest of 2018. Best, Brian
Hello, I'm new to your channel, can you tell me your weight and age, so I can have clearer idea about your data. I'm also a sprinter rider type, with numbers similar to yours but I'm 6ft5 and 195lbs
Are you calling out position when going into corners, i just dont understand how there isnt a crash every corner, u just dive for the corner but the guy in front has no idea surely?
No calling out position, it just creates confusion. People generally take predictable lines through corners, and if they don't they suck at cornering. Not predictable usually means not efficient. Racing P/1/2 crits in general means you need to be prepared for a little bit of contact which isn't a big deal if you're used to it.
NorCal Cycling Videos is it sort of an obligation in higher cats? I just usually see riders take the inside entirely for a corner, especially during a bell lap, to defend their position. In this case, it almost seemed they left the inside open for people to pass through.
Every time I see you dive into those corners, I'm expecting a crash. Soooooo tight.

Glad I stumbled upon your channel. Awesome content and commentary!
Suggested Title: how to move up to the front...
Thanx for these great vids
That whole last lap, all I was saying was..."Wow...Wow...Wow". That was a nice attempt to get up to the front.
Great commentary. Helped me understand how a break actually stays away if group isn't organized
I always enjoy your videos Jeff, thanks for the commentary to add context!

Nice job, just need to pick and choose the right breaks to go with.
Awesome hard effort moving up front!
Always a great race!
Good analytical stuff!
50 times.... No matter what endurance sport I am doing I prefer a to and back course.
Top content as always. Please make a video of your teams' bikes.

Taking the turns like a boss.

nice bell lap! love it
Lol last wheel to third wheel in 1 lap exactly where you said you wanted to be. So dope. And surprisingly not a MASSIVE amount of power to move up
Nice positioning on the last lap!
wow, you took a lot of spots on that last lap
Amazing as always! What's your plan for the upcoming off-season?
Dude!!!!! Good race
What does it mean when the Mike's bikes rider puts his hand out
Prastt I think he’s asking for someone to come to the front
@@buddhabike I've seen it in other races too, to me it looks like a sign for stopping or slowing down
You're a monster!!
Second corner pavement looks better than a few years ago, not quite a complete minefield anymore
Super!
Strong like bull!
You kids ride your bike too fast around too many other bikes..
Great job!!
Is there a website that shows all the crit races across the country?? I swear never heard of criterium in Vegas.

Where did that thumbnail come from? Looks like Blue Allez Mike's bikes guy made it to the end?
@gmccullough he was the cyclesport guy on the ground. Yes, Mikes on the blue Allez got back in.
Funny that Team Oregon Rider (blue long sleeves) seemed to be attacking and trying to bridge the whole race. Maybe you should have worked with him more.
I did, go to 4:00 we just didn't have enough firepower to make it.

6ft, low 160s, 32 years old.
This looks scarey
p/1/2 are categories?
Yes, shorthand for pro, category 1 and category 2. They usually combine these fields into "p/1/2"
@@NorCalCycling thanks man,,, nice videos btw
@ 3:10 .....wheres the Zebra
What bike do you use?
I'm planning a whole video detailing my not so impressive equipment setup. Stay tuned..
