Unglaublicher Sänger und Darsteller-
Gerade in Bayreuth erlebt und begeistert!!! Noch nie so einen Siegfried live gehört !!!!!!
It's just exciting to hear that! The idea of Andreas performing with the hammer, in addition to being a bold decision, turned out to be very exciting - the experience turned out to be full, as it inevitably makes us feel all the emotion of the character Siegfried! Andreas' voice in this piece sounded exactly as I expected to hear from other performers - the "metal" present in his voice in the high region has all the responsibility of success. Bravissimo!!
Just discovered him yesterday at Baden-Baden as Siegmund. What an heldentenor !!
Holy shit.Der Mann kann das.
Dude, I cannot remember how many variations of this I have watched and listened to over the years. Yet, seeing an enthusiastic Siegfried is always a sight to remember. 😁
It’s even more impressive that he’s doing this is an ‘open air’ tent!
What are you talking about? The mics were everywhere to catch the singing during his acting and the orchestra.
@@grr8048it’s not just about amplification. In this case, I’m not talking about the perspective of the audience, but from the singer himself. Singing into an open space is more difficult as you don’t get acoustic feedback, so the tendency, especially in this music, is to lose calibration and over-sing.
Honestly the best version of the forging song I've heard since Lauritz Melchior's!
Just too bad they cut the last verse of the "Notung'" song. It's the one with the most fun in it.
Agreed, and Stefan Vinke gave a thrilling rendition at Covent Garden, and still sounded fresh at the end. Compare these with the much-admired Windgassen, who to me, sounds out of his comfort zone in anything heavier than Lohengrin.
He also does an amazing Parsifal. Not just his vocals but also his acting is top notch. He plays the innocent fool very well, especially in the Berlin production with Kampe as Kundry. Here he is also very youthful and full of energy. One of the few singers to me who can pull of a convincing Siegfried (after all, he is supposed to be a haughty youth / young man and Schager more than convinces me of that here). If I were Brünhilde I'd be more than just Heil'ing the Sonne if this particular Siegfried woke me up, if you get my drift. Seriously though, he is just so unequivocally charismatic and charming here and I just love it! Bravo my fine fellow! Bravo!
Agreed, I had the good fortune to hear his Parsifal in 2019, my first visit to Bayreuth for over 30 years. Superb, and I hope he is signed up for Siegfried at Covent Garden in 2025. I have yet to hear him sing it in full, but sounds like he could be in the same league as Melchior, who was not much of an actor.
Siegfried intentions and purpose is very captured in this performance.
Very confident and strong singing, with the real timbre and power of a heldentenor! Really impressive tenor!
Ich habe ihn neulich als Tristan gesehen. Unermüdlich und voller Energie bis zum Schluss. Auch im dritten Akt!
Bravo Andreas.....
He is a real Heldentenor. Absolutely stunning and impressive. I am a big fan of him. Congrats once more,Andreas.
Wunderbar! Herzliche Grüsse aus Spanien, lieber Andreas. Gratuliere!
Grüsse aus Lima Peru. Muy buena interpretación. (Disculpa, Angie. No se alemán)
Very impressive! Wow!
Woooow. Very good voice for Wagner
Saw him do this at the MET in NYC. Tremendous job!
Un envoûtement MERCI
Thats rock and roll! Yeah!
🤘🤘😆🤘🤘
Cringe.
You could have Melchior up there and there'd be people saying, too static, don't like his lower register, doesn't provide enough colour in his voice, whatever. In the last 100 years there have been very few tenors who could get close to an ideal Siegfried and Schager, as I heard at the Met, is definitely one of them.
lol no
Bit of a spoiled audience to not stand after that. Brilliant performing in a difficult context. Great tenor. Also..that percussionist in the glasses, she looks kind of non-pluses that he’s doing such a good job playing the anvil, lol!
Great tempo, bravo!
this needs more viewssssssssss
Powerful stuff!!!
Excellent save by the conductor at 03:50
wait idgi what is he saving exactly
@@donovansim2063 Probably the tenor, who apparently has started hitting the anvil with his hammer too early. To say for sure one must give a look into the (full) score.
@@alexeigoukov1109 Ah I see - if it helps i've found the same place in this video at 1:40 ruclips.net/video/g6Sj4SVSCh4/видео.html
Well done.
A Donizetti's tenor singing Siegfried. What could go wrong? 🙄
I just fell in love. But wait. I don't want to get ahead of my skis and pronounce Schager great. I really, really like what I hear coming out of him in Wagner but he has already taken on ALL the big Wagner tenor roles before the age of 50. Even John Vickers knew to avoid Siegfried and he sang well into his 60s in good voice. I know. I heard him twice in Parsifal at that point. If Schager continues sounding as fresh, exciting, and capable in a few years then I will say he is the real deal. He is a mix of youthful versions of Rene Kollo and Robert Dean Smith. We know the former burned out early while the latter's voice has often sounded a bit small in the larger opera house. Given the dearth of heldentenors today, I want Schager to be the real thing.
I heard him live recently as Siegfried & he is indeed the real deal!! Amazing performance :-)
Heard him in Bayreuth today, and sadly, his voice is not the same anymore. Too much woobles...
@@fabptitpomI agree. He has sadly blown the core out of his voice relentlessly over-singing like this (8 years ago). The Met Tannhäusers in December 2023 are going to be a major challenge for him (and us).
Another Heldentenor to watch out for is Daniel Frank. Sadly he hasn't made it to bayreuth yet, but he's singing parsifal at Wiener Staatsoper soon. I saw him live a few months ago and he has it all. Youthful foolishness, lyricism and heroic outbursts.
Greatest living heldentenor on the stage today? Heard him as Tristan and Parsifal in Berlin in '17 and '18. Something else.
Well. He sang the crap outta that, didn't he?
Che 'ganzone'! 👏🏽👏🏻👏👏🏿
Try to keep that energy for the entire opera.
My grandfathers were Germans. It's my music. Deutschland hoch!
Goooood!!!
Craig Ferguson?
wagner despertando voluntades
Oweh!
Ja so ists
Melchiors successor has not been born. This fellow is typical of the heldentenors that show up for a year or two and fade away, their voiced a wreck. I dont know where the tradition of singing Wagner with wide vowels and pushing the vibrato out of what. James King always said no matter the composer, try to sing beautifully. ( advice that is not heeded. Beautiful and loud are not the same.
Wagner was a master musician, also a master dramatist. This is the perfect picture of manhood portrayed, as shakespere would. Forget politics, just aesthetic wise. Wonderful music also of course.
Big chaos in the orchestra at the end...and what happend with the piatti? Horrible. But impressive Siegfried.
i heard him live at the met as siegfried. was a bit disappointed as i had high expectations based on this video. the tone was mostly clouded, colorless and undistinguished. the horrible staging by lepage didn’t help.

不孬
I didn’t know Hugh Jackman was a heldentenor.
That comment just won the internet....
He’s a straining lyric tenor, like all the other would be Siegfrieds. Note the major amplification.
@@connermcwhirter8766Yes, a 'major' amplification.
Has nothing to do with a real heldentenor.
100 mal besser als Siegfried Jerusalem
This is a singer with potential, but he has odd physical ticks that are quite off putting. Why does he telegraph all low notes by pushing his chin into his throat? While that may help to lower his larynx, it does not allow his sound to come forth freely. He is overly bright at times in the middle voice. The high notes are very exciting, but this is not enough for a true Heldentenor. He must have the whole instrument, from bottom to top. There are NO Heldentenors on the scene today with complete instruments. Too many lyric voices pushed into large repertoire. Now that he is singing at the Met in their Ring Cycle, perhaps he will have come farther than this. I certainly hope so.
Won’t last
Sounds a little bit of Rene Kollo and Siegfried Jerusalem. But i miss some baritonal qualities.
He is not a heroic tenor, maby a light jugendlich heldisch.
Not a fan. Too much wobble in top. And too screamy.
I hear no wobble at all, just a healthy ammount of vibrato perfectly under control, especiall in the middle and high notes. The lower notes are weaker. A big dramatic voice will hardly have very little vibrato.
Couldn't disagree with you more. This is the best heldentenor in the world today. Ideal for the rep
I didn't hear a wobble at all.
He may well be the best Heldentenor in the world, but this is not up to the singing of the great Wagner singers 1940s-90s. One must work with what one has, but we are short of great Wagnerians and Verdians right now...
Schwachsinn!
