I can't believe a 370K turntable sounds so good! It almost sounds like a 400K turntable. ;-)
I was about to say the same thing…save yourselves $30k and go for this one😅
What a bargain
400k is absurd for a turntable
it sounds exactly like my headphones!
All I heard was 15 dollar headphones
Wow. I can't believe how obviously the quality of the LP and system come through on a RUclips video. The soundstage was instantly there and everything is smooth and lush..Thank you for the experience.
Exactly
Pretty wild
Agree
Now I can buy a vacation home instead of a turntable.
Lol. You couldn't tell the difference in a blind test.
Whooooffff! Superb sound, easily noticeable even on RUclips. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't heard it. All the high detail but no sibilance, weighty and detailed lows. Best I've ever heard and I'm a SD fan. Excellent review.
Well if RUclips compressed digital audio allows you to hear how good this sounds it must be the superior format.
@@mendelpearl8066 either that or he's delusional lol.
@@mendelpearl8066 Definitely better than a RUclips version I made for myself by uploading a 192/24 file bought from Qobuz. Theoretically both should have been beaten back down to cd quality at the very best, but there you go.

Just perfect.
I love how you said that vinyl will last virtually forever if you take care of your records. It seems obvious, but many people don't know or understand this. The record sounds amazing; even through RUclips! Thank you, Michael.
good evening my mother-in-law who was not a conspiracy theorist... always told me that vinyl would be eternal, I was good to listen to her 😉
@@Kezleuif only they could produce MUSIC these days for the vinyl
True. I acquired some 50-60 year old albums so well preserved. One of them is a Brazilian samba album recorded in 1968 on stereo, which was very rare at the time here in Brasil. It sounds amazingly good regarding the technology and lack of resources of the time.
Yes mazzy.
I have 1949 10" and 12" and they sound just fine. Labels are attached with 10k psi and won't ever come off.
Properly stored I think pvc will last 200+ years with ease.
I have cds that are twenty years old, made by legitimate record labels, that don't play anymore; they skip. You can't even buy a high quality cd player these days for less than a grand--and they still sound inferior to vinyl. Why did we ever fall for the cd scam? What a waste of money.
Damn son! It sounds unbelievable - and only US$370k - what a deal. Cheers from the Mississippi Delta
I can't get over I'm hearing this on RUclips and through my laptop, very impressive, thanks for sharing this Michael...cheers ✌
Sure, this is RUclips, but that sound through my headphones is incredible. It sounds balanced, clear and dynamic. I can only imagine what it sounds like in person.
Yes. I am playing through Bluetooth on my tube amp through a pair of Magnepans and it sounds pretty good.
Remember, the original album won a Grammy for Best Engineered Recording.
I'm blown away at how good it sounds over youtube's crappy compression algos as well.
I'm a born skeptic, and still hold a lot of hi-fi verbiage up to the BS detector--but the first time I sat down in front of my wealthy friend's exotic hi-fi, I was totally floored. Underture from The Who's Tommy came to life in the room. Despite my attitude, I sensed the presence of the instruments and voices in front of me. I didn't hear the equipment. I may still respond to esoteric hi-fi jargon with a touch of snark, but I am a believer. Having said that, I also accept that I am socioeconomically situated to be listening to lo-fi for the remainder of my days. Such is life. I bet this Dan recording sounds so friggin amazing.
Wow even compressed over RUclips it sounds amazing. I can only imagine how good it was in person.
Even with my trashed ears I hear detail I don't remember from my original vinyl, CD's, 1/4" tape@7.5 ips, etc. Gobsmacked. Indeed, this is why we work....
Loved this presentation! As the lead singer for a current international recording group, I had the honor and privilege of meeting Toni Wine, one of the original Babylon sisters on that recording. She co-wrote Candida for my friend Tony Orlando. She had some great back stories about the making of that song. Please keep up the great work on your channel and I’d love to see that turntable in person!
Lovely turntable & it sounds fabulous, even through RUclips 👍
The record is at 45 rpm, is 12" in diameter and very wisely, the actual grooves cover only roughly half of the area from the outer edge. The company realises that grooves near the label simply cannot deliver the fidelity because of loss of linear speed; "compression". Pressings like this solve the problem. I would absolutely love to hear this album. Thanks for posting and cheers from Sunny Australia!.
Correct! However it's probably to avoid IGD due to tracking angle error when being closer to the centre of the record.
I really didn’t think I was gonna notice anything special but I did and what I notice is dynamics and compression. Wow just superb ! Thank you
Amazing clarity and punch. Thanks for sharing this, even via RUclips you can hear this is something very special.
I spent two and a half years aboard an aircraft carrier. I’m loving how much money I’m saving listening to CDs.
underrated
Vinyl is love, romance, soul and dedication. Nothing like it.
@@Earache702And economic means
Everyone has a hobby or passion, and one person will put into it more or less than the other - it's entirely an individual thing and not a measuring stick to live by. That was a great experience even if coming through RUclips.
Nice demonstration Michael. Thank you for letting us listen and see that you DO NOT have to spend 370k on a turntable (I realize RUclips does not have all the detail, but close). However, I have a 1982 JVC QL-Y55F turntable with a far more sophisticated electro-servo tonearm that even dampens resonances, an Audio-Technica VM760SLC Phono Cartridge, which plays this record in identical fashion and with great sound connected to my Technics SU-R1000 fully digital amp. But I do understand where you are coming from. Promoting Vinyl this way and letting other people enjoy the video. And to be honest I did enjoy it myself. Funny and entertaining. And that at the end of the day is most important here. Keep entertaining us Mr. Fremer!
I just can't get enough of videos like these, where i get to listen to absolutely stunning machinery through my 13" macbook air speakers. I'm so thankful, you've made the effort and recorded yourself doing this for me.
That was a treat. Thank you for sharing the clarity of the cut, and your gear.
Sounds wonderful. I am proud to have heard it on that system. Whenever in the world would a regular guy ever have the oportunity to listen to equipment like that. Thanks very much for sharing. The fidelity did realy come through on the youtube. Its fantastic. Thanks again>
This version crushes my iTunes that I flipped to compare. Gorgeous and bringing back those old memories!
Pandoras version is from the Decade of Steely Dan. Was cleanish and uniform for a compilation when it was released in 1985 on CD. Sacrifices made. 🫤
Mr. Fremer could You do a blind pull from your shelves and talk about what you pulled? Please!!!
That's a great idea for an on going series! I'll do that. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@trackingangle929Thank you! I owe half My collection to You and You have never led Me astray.
@@trackingangle929 Good question because the person (some of us know exactly who it is) you just imitated about the packaging/box could do just that- talk about whatever he pulls randomly. 3M digital recording to tape-why not mention that exact thing I just did, clarity is what you love right? BTW looking at that turntable long enough would give some vertigo😆 Over production of something is ok and keep the table design about rigidity and mass.
Great Idea!
Great idea! Consider doing it live once in a while to save on editing and publishing time. So many stories to tell… Looking forward to it.
Thanks, Mr Fremer. Great record, impressive 'table. Extra points for Gillian Welch's Soul Journey in the background.
You popped up in my feed today. That audio sounds amazing on RUclips through headphones. I'll have to pick up that UHQR. Thanks for sharing. I doubt it will sound as good on my turntable, but it was a delight hearing yours.
QUALITY SOUND! That song is so smooth. You where right on the nice lows.🎶
That was an amazing sound even just hearing on RUclips video.
Well done again amazing choice Michae.
Wow, this sounds incredible. So much space between everything.
Sounds amazing Michael. Thank you for the presentation.
Very cool, thanks for letting us check this out - sounds great.
Great audition! YES! I really think the better the playback hardware the more revealing it will be. Depending if your comparing the same recordings played back on the same hardware as well. Plus, depending if you have a trained ear as well. Thank you for sharing Mr. Fremer! Always grateful for what you share! LEGEND!🙂
Sounds really great and expressive. Thank you, Michael.
Michael, it sounded awesome! Clear, smooth, no resonances anywhere. And I'm listening over a really small tabletop system hooked directly up to this laptop. Greetings from Italy.
Sounds awesome, thank you so much for doing this
Thanks for uploading this. Incredible track and amazing turntable.
Listened on RUclips at 2160p 4k.Liked and subbed. The front wall of my small home studio was filled with sound.Monitors are 2 1/2 ft.from the front wall.Just did that a few months ago. What a difference.Soundstage -depth sounds great.Agree that playing at 45 RPM gives a Noticeably cleaner sound.Amazing turntable you have there. Best Regards..
Wow! Clear and balanced production. Superb sound.
Sounds fantastic.
Vocal tone, sound of the vocal mics, sonic choices for each channel in the 24 track mix, all are obvious even after many digital steps and compressions to YT.
Hmm, almost like digital audio is acoustically transparent, despite losses due to RUclips’s compression? 🤷♂️
Wow the sound production through the internet from RUclips into my speakers is unbelievable that is one beautiful set of you have there
I think all the people you could feed with this equipment would really like this song.
i listened to this video just through my desktop Ceative Pebble speakers, and the soundstage is astounding!
and i'm VERY familiar with this album, being a diehard SD fan.
so, i can only imagine how great it must sound in your listening room.
Wow, that sounds really nice. Probably some of the best sound I've heard on RUclips. Must sound great in person!
Man. This is my first time listening to this track on quality headphones. So freaking good. Thank you for the experience!
Wowie Zowie that actually made me get goosebumps & tear up a bit! Awesome.
Obviously a great deal of quality is lost on the RUclips reproduction but it still sounds crystal clear. I’m having the same kind of battle with analogue and digital photography, I realize that analogue film can not be beaten especially if you’re using large format cameras like myself there is no way modern digital cameras can give you the same quality as the large format cameras of yesteryear.
Depending on the setup. A top of the range digital back, with pixel shift, can produce amazing quality and is a lot easier to carry.
I love how you love what you do.
Another great review! Thanks, Michael!
a monumental recording that only improves with age - thanks for this because I don't foresee my running out and buying the turntable but will be listening to the Dan today!
Just discovered your channel, thanks for the review! 🙏
First time that I have noticed the quality of my headphones! Thank you!
Wow. I'm not ashamed to say...I got a lil chub now. I am absolutely blown away by the sound. Thank you for this.
What this video proves more than anything else is that RUclips audio is very capable and that lossy compression, when applied not too harshly, doesn't degrade the sound, contrary to audiophile beliefs. I was impressed by the sound quality, but I realise that a large part of that is not due to my system but due to the fact that this recording didn't suffer from the "loudness war" dynamics compression. For me that's what really kills the sound quality of music.
This sounds so good I had to download it and compress it to a 128k mp3 so I can play it on my phone speakers.
I got tears in my eyes, the beauty of the song coming out of that spectacular turntable....magic!
You are right about records lasting for a long time. I inherited many from my father and, after cleaning, many still sound like new and others almost like new.
Totally awesome sounds spectacular!
Awesome sound! Thank you very much! More please when you get some time!
Wow. The vocals and highs are clearer than I have ever heard them.!!!
OMG MR.FREMER THAT IS SOOO COOL !! 😮😮My sister turned me onto Steey Dan when i was young and i bless that experience. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS FOR US ❤
The pedigree of that awesome turntable lets the quality of that pressing really shine through, the cymbals, sax, vocals were all so smooth without glossing over the dynamics of this great track 👍👍👍
That app control on the table is awesome!
i pumped this through to my hi-fi speakers - it sounds AMAZING.
This is the sound my dad strove for years. He spent a small fortune on “hi-fi” equipment…Quad, JBL, Shure… and never achieved what he was looking for. Even over RUclips I can tell the difference. Amazing.
Wow. That beats the hell out of iTunes. Even through RUclips and listening on my AirPods it just runs circles around it. Seems obvious but still notable. The clarity, detail and power is pretty rad. Brilliant!
That sounds amazing even on phone- when my copy comes in, I have a bottle of Kirschwasser I’m gonna crack open while listening 😎 thanks for sharing that amazing TT !
So I did a quick comparison from apple iTunes which I know is a compressed file and the difference is so much better coming from your turntable wow the detail the punch musicality is truly amazing, thanks for the upload
Very nice Michael, thank you for sharing. I have one ordered, so looking forward to it.
I actually didn’t have a copy of this on record so I won’t be able to compare it; it certainly sounds nice here 🙂
Beautiful presentation, one of my favorite albums! Love that they give their releases so much love. What a blessing to listen to that classic on THAT system 😁 I wanna hear Gaucho coming out of chronosonics! 😫
The fidelity of the original is present and getting its best place to play. thank you
Even through RUclips, you can tell how good this sounds!
That was simply Sublime Michael. I was fairly transported. I'm agog at the thought of if you spun off "Home At Last".
Another great video Michael thank you!! Now I have to see which version I have
Amazing sound. The clearest I’ve ever heard it
Pffft...
Well, listening to this over a Hisense UH8 television with Dolby Atmos and built-in subwoofer, and I can tell RIGHT AWAY that I need to get a better pressing of this album for my music collection. Opening drum hits have the crispness of snapping bricks. Sheesh!
Thanks much for sharing, sir! Much appreciated.
Hotdamn! 😮 You done this ol heart and theses ol ears good, sir. 🙏🏾
I have listened to this song and subsequent live versions a thousand times before. This is truly remarkable.
Holy Moly !!!! 😮. This particular track on this particular turntable played back on my system sounds unbelievably incredible 🎉🎉🎉!!! WOW 🤩
Sounds so good!
I like how you just tossed papers and packing material on a $370k turntable, like it’s a $20 shelf from Walmart. Reminds me of standing on the hood of an Aston Martin Victor to reach the top of a hedge to trim. 😂
The UHQR series is astounding. I have Aja and it is the best sounding record I own- or never owned. Gaucho is gonna make an appearance, too! Thanks for this video, very enjoyable style and format.
The nearest the majority of music fans will get to this pressing or the turntable! Listening to vinyl sure is an expensive hobby these days. Thanks for sharing, extremely impressive 🎶🎶👍
Thanks for the review
I have listened to this track many times on my original copy of Aja but I've never heard it like this. My computer is connected to my sound system (the same one I listen to vinyl on) via an inexpensive DAC that I use for recording. The quality jumps right out at me even through RUclips. Thanks for expanding my listening horizons.
This track if off the Gaucho album, not Aja.
Holy s**t! I had no doubt your gear is able to produce stunning audio, but I was skeptical it’d translate to YT. If it sounds this impressive and clear listening through some planar IEMs, I can’t imagine what it sounds like “in the room”. WOW! I’m dripping with envy.
I cannot believe how good that sounds, I can only imagine what that sounds like in the room
Even after it's been through RUclips's atrocious audio digital processing ? This has been processed with image widening software to enhance the width of the stereo image, NOT something Elliot Scheiner, Bill Schnee or Bob Ludwig would have done !
@@redtapemusic wow. THAT was polite.
sarcasm?
@@headforthetropics probably yes. I'm still a regular vinyl listener with an extensive collection and decent (Luxman, good quality but not esoteric) playback equipment. Could you explain how all the apparent benefits of vinyl reproduction (no low pass filter at 20kHz etc.) could possibly survive the butchery of You Tube's dreadful audio conversion and yet apparently still sound so impressive ? I strongly suspect that Bob Ludwig's original mastered recording (that Becker & Fagan approved) has been further enhanced using image widening software to sound like this.
@@redtapemusicfound the guy who uses logic. The 24/96 digital file probably came from this same tape. Why would pressing it to an LP and putting it through RUclips make it sound better than 24/96 mastered from the same source?!
Interesting and informative videos as always! 😌🎶🎹
Sounded great I am a big Gaucho fan, well written good listen
I know you know this: that is absolutely extraordinary, even with YT compression. Meticulous engineering pays off.
Thanks. This was cool to see.
WOW...gave me chills.....worth a listen!!!
FANTASTIC sound. I only played this through some Kali Audio monitors but, wow! Track starts at 10:01. Thanks for posting this. It`s a benchmark for sound quality.
Outstanding sir, thank you!
Best turntable I've ever heard.
What I love the most about this record is how it says goodbye to the 70s and also Steely Dan. I could listen to the outro of Third World Man for days. Amazing music.
Solid man.... this is very cool!!
Stunning in every way.
In your humble opinion it's the definitive version of the record. My definitive version is the one I bought when I was 16 years old.
That's fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
That sounded amazing!
$370K - ? Wow. Sounds nearly as good as a CD. ;-)
Even thru RUclips, Donald’s voice sounds clearer, and you were right, the bass is more forceful. Altogether a great sound. Thanks Mikey.
I have audioengine speakers on my PC, and this sounds amazing. I can only imagine what it sounds like on your end. Thanks for sharing.
