Awesome! Nice to see more cloth sims again. Hope you got time to make a full tutorial of the Ribbon knots you showed in the live presentation. It was just covered like a minute or so.
Hey E.J. I studied your Basecamp at SOM and I love your channel too. So much wisdom. And it is getting funnier and crazier! 🔥🔥🔥 How would you animate a ribbon? You know, the corporate theme I come across pretty often. The ribbon flies around the objects, back and up in your face and out of the frame. Would you do it with cloth simulations too?
I wouldn't mind new versions of your older tutorials given how the tools have changed quite a bit. Maybe with new characters, just saying this as you've catered your tutorials more and more to the VFX side and TECH-ART ish stuff lately. xD On a side note: I am still shocked though how Maxon has not updated their shaders to build new rendering models to show improvements over the standard renderer. I mean I love how it works and all, but I wish they could create something that could rival the Principled BSDF in Blender and Eevee's rasterization realtime. I also have a love hate relationship with the Phong tag, and maybe they should also consider reworking their model into a "smoothing groups tag" or something that would allow me to have control over the rotation of normals for Cel shaded looks. It's what a mograph tool of this caliber should be able to do in 2023. :/
Don't worry, I am planning on getting more character related tutorials going again! What would you like to see me do on the character front? Re: shaders, the only updates you'll see is with Redshift. Im assuming it'll just take over Standard and Physical - those renderers will be phased out, not updated. But yeah I've been waiting for a Redshift cel shader FOREVEERRRRRR
@@eyedesyn Sorry for late reply, sounds cool what you mean about Redshift, so I guess they are going for a native Redshift pipeline with more presets for beginner based on what you say. Hey if you ever talk to them tell them users are very interested to know this. x) As for the characters would love to see simple claymorphic looking, high roughness stlized characters like you've done before. Maybe something like the Bird, the Sketeleton with a poncho, the expressive toast with blue eyes and the gorilla used in the cel shading tutorial. Maybe something like 2023 ways to handle cel shaded characters. How to emulate the double line seen in anime looks or games like Genshin Impact. Stlized techniques for grass, sand, snow, water in Cinema 4d. Would love this kind of content. Any will do. xD

Hellooo! First of thanks for the tut, a lot of good tips in there. I have a question about time remapping. What would you do if you had camera movements? W ould you also bake them as alembic and then reimport in your new scene and then remap? Or would you do these cameras animations when remaping, in your new scene?
I want to make that, and that. But I don't think these tools work the same anymore, or Rotation flat out is broken in 2025. Rotation seems to be where the new cloth falls apart for me in any tutorial.
Following your steps I clicked on cloth object and "bake as alembic". The export takes pretty long but I do get an alembic file, however I can´t see anything in the viewport after importing with default import settings, it is just an empty null. Also the file size of that alembic is tiny, only 2kb. tried 5x times, no idea what is behind it. What could be wrong?
Hmm you might have only baked the NULL and not the geometry the sim is applied to. Be sure you cache the sim and then select the cloth object and bake as alembic and that should work!
hahah I make them short, people want them long, I make them long, people complain they want them short I can't win! lololol thanks for watching and also thanks so much for the sub! :)
@@bitbross3656 the angle speed of the Rotation simulation needs to be in the thousands. I also added a turbulence sim to get some more variation. Hope that helps.

Love your tutorials, so funny 😂
Also good to see that even you as a veteran can't find basic menu items because they keep shuffling stuff around haha
The struggle is REAL! lol
Made me happy, but only until i tried to render this out as a video with subdivision surface :D
hahahaha! if you have redshift or octane you can also do subdivision are render time without the need for Subdivision Surface!
You crack me up mate! thanks for the great tutorials and the fun watching them
Glad you like them! Cheers!!!
man you are great, thanks a lot for your time
Comments like this make it all worth all the effort! Thank you!

Hey Tania thanks for taking my course! And yes it's totally possible - ill put it down as a tutorial suggestion in the future!
Was great again. Thank EJ
Thanks for watching!!!

Love it! Haven't done a Sim render in a while, sheeshh these things get heavy. Now to set a full week render at 3K. LOL
Heavy to sim but I've been getting good render times, just make sure you cache first or bake with alembic!
good
Hello Sir. I always wonder how to make a knot with a piece of cloth, having the rest of the cloth blown by the wind. Just an idea. Thanks (=
Very cool
🙏
What is the difference between baking as alembic and caching simulation in the cloth tag? Is is the time remapping that is the advantage?
Alembic is creating a file that C4D references and caching is just storing in RAM in the same project file. HOpe that helps!

Thanks Andonni!!!!
how can i go about looping this?
Looping as in twisting and then untwisting then twisting again? You can use that alembic workflow for that
Great tut again. Is it me or is the audio out of sync?
My on cam seems to get slightly out of sync sometimes, but the main tutorial with screen cap should be good!
how do i add a collider that interacts with the cloth, having it sit on top. Everytime i try it doesn't really work
Apply a collider tag to the object you want to have collider into the cloth

I did not get anywhere near the results you did. Exactly the same settings. Not sure why 🤷♂
Simulations in 2023.2.1 are very different now! You need to crank the number up to get any sort of movement 😏
@@mpc365 what's the number? My simulation is not moving at all(((

Mick is right! They changed the mapping of the values of the forces so they're less sensitive so you may need to REALLY crank up the forces!
Thx!!!
followed every step yet nothing happens lol why is that?
