    Bryce is a class act. I met him a few times when the Aquasox came to town and he's extremely polite and very fan friendly. Plus he's a BEAST!!! Definitely had to get an autograph!

    Having depth at SP cannot be overlooked, its amazing how we were able keep all our guys healthy last year, but I wouldn't be surprised if Bryce started the year in the pen, no doubt himself and Emerson maybe even Taylor Dollard could make starts this year tho.

    • @jefffinkbonner9551
      @jefffinkbonner9551 Год назад

      I think it’s the most overlooked aspect of the 2022 season: the starting pitching health. Everyone talks rightly about how they were a strong suit of the team, but few seem to mention that really no one was ever out with an injury. Usually a guy misses 2-3 starts on the 15-day DL, but I can’t think of a single instance of a single starter having to miss a start. Brash was sent back down to work on his command and retool for the pen, which really was a great move for him and his stuff being able to dial up his fastball into the upper 90s.
      You make a great point about utilizing some of these young pitchers out of the pen this year. It’s less pressure (in the right circumstances) and gives them Major League experience they otherwise wouldn’t get being the #7-9 starting pitcher behind an already solid rotation with extra depth at the pro level already.
      Go M’s!

    Just found you with this good vid on Bryce. Seattle is my favorite AL team and I'm believing that we may be able to compete in the AL West. We may not be as good as the Astros but the playoffs are a good possibility. While the A's and the Angels are disgraces and actually bad for baseball they do translate into a division that we could be a serious factor in.

      @@TheCouchGM Yeah, just as soon as Verlander is gone, we get to face deGrom. Luckily, we won’t have to face him 7 times like we did Verlander with the new scheduling having us only facing divisional opponents 13 instead of 19 times.

    Commendable player profile. Thanks!
    Lookout landing published an article today vis-a-vis spring training NRI's that claimed Bryce Miller was a 4th round pick in 2020. However, fangraphs and baseball reference has him as a 4th round pick in 2021 (same as you).
    Nothing turns on this, just found it rather odd.

    My view is that Emerson Hancock is still the next guy up in case of injury, but that is because of his experience by contrast. This is, as was pointed out, only Miller's fifth-season pitching at any level. He does, however, likely have a higher ceiling even if his current floor is slightly lower.

    • @TheCouchGM
      @TheCouchGM  Год назад +2

      Yeah we’ll see how it plays out. I’ve been high on Hancock, he looked awesome in the futures game. I feel he’s being underrated a bit at this point due to his health concerns. The talent is there

    • @heinleinreader
      @heinleinreader Год назад +2

      @The Couch GM I agree that Hancock has been savaged wrongly by the "rating gurus". I do still think Bryce Miller has, based on his rapid rate of progression, a higher ceiling. As I said, I still have Hancock sitting ahead of Miller currently. I have Woo, another highly touted prospect that Jerry mentioned, behind them in fourth trailing Dollard. The position players' list for Seattle starts and ends with Harry Ford and Cole Young. Don't get me wrong, their system is deeper than that, but those two stand head and shoulders above the rest for potential star quality. That is what I was listing. These six players are their "can't miss" prospects.

    • @kutz206
      @kutz206 Год назад +2

      @@TheCouchGM I kinda felt that Hancock was being unfairly punished by prospect ratings for some of his injuries, injuries that weren't even THAT bad (ie, no shoulder stuff or Tommy John, etc). Dude still has disgusting stuff. deGrom had Tommy John twice iirc before he ever debuted

  • @jefffinkbonner9551
    @jefffinkbonner9551 Год назад

    I’m still unclear exactly how minor leagues and player development progresses, but if Miller has only played at the AA Everett Aquasox level and hasn’t even played at AAA Tacoma yet, isn’t it jumping the gun to be talking about him taking a major league role unless it’s as part of the expanded 40-man roster near season’s end?

    • @TheCouchGM
      @TheCouchGM  Год назад

      The Pacific Coast League (AAA Tacoma) is known to be very hitter friendly, so often times a pitcher’s final stop will be AA Arkansas before getting the call. Kirby was called up from AA last year, Gilbert only had one start in AAA before he was called up, Brash’s final stop was AA as well. Miller had 10 starts at AA last year with a 10.8 k/9, 1.04 WHIP, 3.20 ERA. If Miller has a strong spring, there’ll be an argument to be made.

    • @TheCouchGM
      @TheCouchGM  Год назад +5

      The Dipoto era is different. First 30 seconds of the video…. Julio, Cal, Kirby, Gilbert, all were drafted/ signed by the M’s and developed into solid players (potentially stars). Kelenic and Brash were traded for, Kelenic with a ton of potential, Brash a potential star reliever

    • @NewportSoccerShots

      I agree for the most part, but we have been successful developing pitchers under Dipoto especially. Bullpen and starters. Gilbert, Kirby, sewald, brash, etc
