"The white gay story is not the only story" Loved that phrase, and I can totally relate to that being a Costa Rican. Great video and great topic, fits perfect for a podcast!
You're definitely right, there! Unfortunately, that's all many of us ever experience growing up. But there's a whole rainbow of perspectives to consider!
@@AGayInTheLife Exposure to gay people is something that really makes an impact in gay people and society in general. The first gay person I saw on Tv presented in a positive way was Ellen Degeneres, before that, at least here in Costa Rica, every gay character or gay person on Tv was someone to make fun off, fomenting stereotipes and missinformation. To this day, is very hard to find a gay person on Costa Rican Tv that resembles how our community really is.
first obvious statement: HE IS SO DAMN HANDSOME, honestly. I can't even compute. But, beside his looks, I really do admire him so much. I read his memoir and watched many panels where he talked about his experience in the UK growing up, the racism there and the more subtle racism in America about like not treating Asians like full human beings and not a stereotype. I love how honest, direct and real he is. He's one of the most real people I ever came across. He has such a strong authoritative energy and personality but he's super sweet about it.
Beautiful interview and beautiful words shared by Tan! so eloquent and charismatic always. there are not enough words to express how delightful he is in real life and how strong and reselient he is . fully agree with everything he said, about how some people just want to sleep with Asian minorities but don't want to marry them, or how there's a fetish going on, on how people in those communities are so alienated by others, on how people needs to stop with the stereotypes...such a import discussion to be had everyday. REPRESENTATION MATTERS
It absolutely matters! Hopefully we can show people that via this channel! And we wish we could've put even more of our interview into this vid. Check out Tan's book for more insight as to how he felt growing up as a South Asian man with zero representation.
Interesting and very informative. Being Cuban our culture is very male oriented and Fathers find it very hard to accept a son turning out gay. Fortunately I was blessed myself at having such wonderful understanding and supportive parents. Wonderful interviewed! Keep it up guys..😘
As always, fantastic interview guys! We will share with all everyone we can, especially with all our middle east followers who continually ask us how to be happy, how to find the strengths to move away from their family and start living the life they deserve. It is so good to hear that other kids out there were/ are playing with what the 'hetero norms' consider stupidly 'girly' toys. I (Ricky) used to play with a Pocahontas doll whose hair was changing colours under the water, and Arif use to have a little market and kitchen! We have to thank our parents for that:) As mentioned, today we will protest against this new Italian law that will be triggered in a few days. It will give straight people the right to discriminate the LGBTQ+ community and be protected for it. We will be posting on Instagram and RUclips as our social media will be the only place to speak up and be heard as this news is not on TV. Thank you ever so much for everything you are doing!❤️❤️❤️❤️
