- Can "Hey Goo Goo" work as a wake up command or can you change the name? "Ok Google" & "Hey Google" are the official ways to wake the Google Home but how does it actually work? When you first start using the Google Home it is a bit tricky to figure out how it all works. Walter Charney Most likely but I don't know which ones. 3rd party apps are fine e.g IFTTT but I'd much prefer 1st party hotword change and one command for multiple actions. Hopefully in the future

With the help of your videos I converted my entire home to a smart home. I started out using Google products but, I noticed that my wife and family wasn't using it. So, I started buying the Alexa products and everyone started using it. When I asked what's the difference everyone said that they felt stupid saying a corporate name to turn on a light and they like using a person's name better. I hope that Google recognizes this problem and I could take my Google products out of a box in my garage and start using them again.

edit: if you do that, it either gives you the definition, or shuts down for a short while

Without a doubt, the biggest complaint against Google Home and Google Home Mini is NOT being able to change the hot phrase or name. This would be such an easy fix for Google, but they are absolutely apathetic to their customer base, and ONLY care about their own agenda. The second I EVER find something better than Google Assistant, I'll switch fast enough to make your head spin...
If you ask google if you can change its name, it indicates that it will let IT know, maybe if we keep pushing!!

This is the only feature that makes me decide to buy a home. Please Google, let us make custom wake words.

I get it why google doesn't allow custom names yet (branding), but some real human name like Alexa feels much more personal & AI, than calling a huge company by it's name.
This is what puts me off having a home hub of some description. I'd like more customisation for things like the wake up command and voice.

Those are not extra 'Google commands,' they are actually soundex equivalent to the speech recognition module.

When I call Google call center, I ask if we can change the hard command from hey Google to, *hey Natasha* I get giggles from the call. I just want *hey Natasha* to giggle

My dog named 'Boo Boo' and my cat named 'Noodle' (Seriously!) are now thoroughly confused.
From a quick experiment it seems that any phrase with the Oh Ay OO OO combinations will work - or at least those sounds alone do. 'Good day Google' works and seems quite appropriate.
The reason why it probably activates when you say those phrases is in case somebody uses it has an awkward accent.

I am having problems. ..google seems to think that I have more smart lights than I have and doesn't respond to my commands correctly and keeps telling me to set the imaginary ones up. How do I delete them ? Or how do I take care of this problem?.

Is it possible to change the accent of the Google assistant? I like the British one better.
Using the App, I changed the voice to UK ... except now I have metric values. I've not checked yet to see if the metric values by themselves can be changed back to US, without having to change back to US voice. Go to the App, click the hamburger in the upper left, More Settings, under Devices, click the name of your Google Mini, then click Assistant Language.
It might depend on what language you have set on the Google Assistant app. I will have to try it out.
yeah, I tried it too. then it told me the temperature outside was 20⁰ -- in Florida. So much for that. I switched back to American. It's a bummer because my friend can get her Serii to speak Aussie to her but gives the temperature in Fahrenheit. I wish Google had that feature.
Just tell your assistant to use Fahrenheit instead of Celsius, if that's what you want ...
Yeah, just change it in settings. I changed mine to an Australian female voice no problem.

I have several Google Home devices but do not use them because the wake words are cumbersome. They feel unnatural.
Yeah, but in the beginning of the video you said it without muting it followed by "lets make a video" and my google home mini responds with "I can't do that yet."

You can shorten the wake up request by just saying the VOWEL COMBINATION Google Home listens for.

i have multiple google devices and they all respond when i say 'ok google' it would be great if i could name them differently so only 1 would respond at a time, is there anything i can do for the mean time?

They really aren't meant to be extra commands. The algorithm recognizes patterns that sound like the base commands and is triggered by them. The GH is therefore not perfect in its voice recognition abilities.
But what about "Good day Google"? I know it seems a lot like "Okay Google", but it still seems a bit far off, and it works for me if I take an extra long pause in between good and day, too.
Hi... a quick question. I just installed 2 Google mini to my wifi network. I previous had 2, bringing the total to 4. I noticed that if I do a broadcast from my cellphone everything works fine. If I try broadcast from the Google home mini only the older 2 work. The new ones don't recognize other devices. Everything else works fine even group audio.... what can I try?
Could it be that 2 are on my 2.4 ghz and 2 on my 5 ghz even if they have the same name?

Open the Google Home Mini on the Google Home App. At the bottom you should see link to account. See if that works.

Really kind of ticked that you would title your video "OK Google, How Do I Change Your Name?" while you KNOW that there is no way to do it yet! I got excited that there might now be a way to do it when I saw your video title and you didn't crush my soul until 3:08 in your video (which is only 4:50 long!). Once there is a way to do it your video will have the most views and everyone will come here to find out that you CAN'T actually do it! Even once we can!
