I always look at some comments before I watch a video. I just seen yours and I must say I have found that to be true. And I see some people have said your comment is “what’s wrong with this country “ lolol The people who say that are the ones who don’t realize they’re getting played. Anyone who thinks your comment is what’s wrong has a lot of catching up to do.
You handled educating people who are ignorant of hunting very well. I am not a hunter. In fact we run a wildlife preserve in 35 Acre Farm that we have. We feed the animals here to and I liked your deer feeder and I'm going to build one today. What people have to understand who never hunt is it goes much deeper than that. Not only are you doing what comes naturally to you over hundreds of thousands of years, minus the gun of course, you are going outside and you're not staring into a TV. You are helping the total deer population to survive and not suffer and die. Taking a couple of deer out of a herd and yet helping that hurts survive it's great! Thanks for the video and good luck.
I'm a 68 year old woman and I started hunting 6 or 7 years ago with a crossbow. I love your feeder and will be making some for my deer. Thanks for sharing.
I figured you would drill some holes in the bottoms for water to drain out bc some water can get in the opening there. Most I’ve seen have the holes in the bottoms for that reason.
I have never been a hunter nor desire to be. I'm here because deer frequently show up in my suburban neighborhood. Obviously, they are seeking food and I want to provide them some and they're fun to watch. Thank goodness there are people who like to hunt and the deer don't starve from overpopulation. There is no where close to my home for hunting so this is great for those animals that may not make it otherwise. Thanks!
Excellent practical feeder! We do the peanut butter thing here in Alabama too. A couple of simple things I did to the feeder:: Put a drain screen in the bottom, eliminating the extension and cap. Also placed a 16oz drink bottle in the bottom to help disperse the corn and keep less in the bottom. Turned upside down. Enjoyed your video!
Great video. Btw...don’t waste your time with the haters. The haters are not being honest or are really ignorant. You are honest... thanks for the video.
Nice work, hello from Australia , just one query, what about the rain that will accumulate in the bottom of the feeder via the open feeding hole? Wouldn’t it pay to have a slotted bottom for the moisture to drain out? I have been watching a lot of videos and have just completed a good deer blind , so feeders are the next step.
Thanks for watching. You are correct. If these are exposed to a lot of rain, Ive found that just drilling a few 1/4" holes in the bottom, the water will drain out and the holes are too small for the corn to fall through. Thanks again for watching and good luck with the hunt!
Liked the video. I will add a design change that you haven't considered. I use a plastic drain screen for the bottom of my static tube feeders. They sell them in the plumbing & irrigation Dept. at any Home Depot or Lowes. That way when it rains you won't get water filling up your tube and it will keep your corn from sitting in water. Rain will drain out the bottom and the corn stays fresh. I use either stainless screws to put everything together with or pop rivets. I use a clean out cap for the top that screws on and screws off. Wont leak. Some times I have to use a wrench to get it going when I have to remove it but it beats having to try and wiggle a cap off. I don't like using any glue because I have had it where glue has failed plus the odor. Im going to try and use 6" diameter pipe for my next one I do. That and get a metal 5 gallon bucket with the trap mounted to the bottom for more feed plus the 6-8' tube it won't get emptied as often.
You mentioned that some people said you should go to the grocery store for your food so nothing has to be killed. Where do they think the meat in the grocery store comes from? I don't hunt and even I understand the need for conservation and the good stewardship of the environment. I believe you when you say that you most likely help more deer stay alive through the winter months, than you take hunting.
"some people said you should go to the grocery store for your food so nothing has to be killed..." we are in trouble and I mean serious trouble, we're surrounded by clueless people :-(
If you really care about wild animals, you need to buy habitat (land) for them! If you can’t afford to buy land, join an organization, like The Nature Conservancy, that can! Being an anti hunter is worthless! There are more deer killed by cars than hunters! Thanks
@@rayhitt5564 Nationally hunters kill 6 million deer per year and 1.5 million are hit by cars so your statement is false. I'm a contributor to the 6 million. I hunt in Mississippi. Unfortunately my wife is a contributor in the 1.5 million as she has hit two in the last 5 years causing major damage and killing both.
Also might not be a bad idea to put some drain holes in the bottom cap to drain out any water that still may get in. If there is any water standing in the bottom is will get moldy.
I hunt mulies in Southwest Texas panhandle and if it wasn’t for some of us hunters the deer population would not be what it is. The winters are harsh here not to much snow but we do get very dry winters killing just about every bit of forage these deer have. So when it comes to us hunters we put out as many feeders we can. I don’t like to hunt on food plots or near feeders so I find the trails they use to get to the plots. Keep up what ur doing.
I love the feeder looks great ilove watching nature wildlife in my backyard i feed all wildlife here in tenn i feed them all I really appreciate this video cuz I'm going to make the feeder tomorrow next time make some deer water holes good jod
2018... 40 oz peanut butter at Dollar General is now 2 for $7.00. Still a good deal. And I agree that feeding deer in the winter improves deer vitality and health. Also if you let bucks with less then 6 point go it will also improve deer quality over time To save $ buy 6" sewer and drain pipe from your local hardware store. Lowe's and Home Depot charge $54.00 for a 6" wye locally. $24 dollars for the same sewer and drain at my True Value store. BTW the peanut butter trick really does work. I even have black bears on camera eating it. Great video and a new sub. Good job
Loved your ideas, and comments. The Lord gave us deer elk and many other animals for food. He doesn't have a problem with it. And neither do I. Bless you bro. Enjoy your hunt.
Good for you pal I'm from new Brunswick Canada the northern deer herds here have a hard time in winter I see nothing rong with helping out the deer great video you seem like a really nice young man thank's again
Yes a little but the thick tree canopies help with this a lot. Also, the corn doesnt last long at all. Between the deer and the raccoons, it doesnt last more than 2-3 days for a 50lb bag. Just try to work around the forecast. Also, they dont mind if its wet ;)
How about a simple rain brim up the pipe a little ways to keep the rain out of the Y feed tube? Or holes in the bottom cap to allow to run out the bottom?
I dont really have much issue with rain but I did try something similar to what youre mentioning. I cut a piece of a mudflap from a big truck and screwed it about a foot above the opening with some self tapping screws. Kind of made a semi-circle awning over it for lack of a better word. Seems to work pretty well
Depending on the size PVC you use, I suppose more than one could fit in there, although I havent seen it. Im sure you could adapt the design to just about anything you want.

+sebagosteve Speaking of illegal in Maine... Congratulations on the new law today! Maine seems to have its stuff together a lot more than many of our states. While so many are looking for more strict gun laws, your state approves carry without a permit! Love it
It really doesnt. This corn doesnt last long enough to rot. We do get a little rain in them but not as bad as youd think. In the spring when we get a lot more rain, its worse but we dont use them much at that point anyway. Still not a bad idea to drill a couple holes.
I had several feeders before i read up on cwd. Bringing deer to the same spot to feed, increases the chances of it spreading. Thats why they have issues with captive herds. I took all my feeders down at went to food plots.
I didn’t read all the comments but I do have a question. Using the Y on the feeder at the bottom. How does rain effect the corn? I would suggest drilling holes in the bottom so water can drain. I’m sure the corn will be eaten fast enough that the moisture won’t ruin it. But if it doesn’t drain it may cause a problem. Thoughts?
Yeah it depends. I’ve had great luck here but your mileage may vary. I place them in my woods under a pretty thick canopy and they get eaten within a couple of days so I don’t have much issue with rain. If you’re in a more open area with less traffic, holes may be a good idea. I’ve put a cut up piece of truck mud flap about a foot up on some to keep rain out and that works pretty good too

thats going to fill up with water and rot the corn if you dont drill some drainage holes in the bottom cap.. GOOD LUCK
It really doesnt. This corn doesnt last long enough to rot. We do get a little rain in them but not as bad as youd think. In the spring when we get a lot more rain, its worse but we dont use them much at that point anyway. Still not a bad idea to drill a couple holes.
Not fancy painting!?? Man that looks damn good!!!
nice project, I will use this as a pet feeder.
you eat your pets???
I’ve put a cut up piece of truck mud flap about a foot up on some to keep rain out and that works pretty good too
Great paint job!

God loves you ❤
Thanks a lot for the help some people are just so ignorant. Have you ever tried spiking your apples and corn with molasses.
Great video. I am wondering how much of the corn feeds deer and how much really feed squirrels, raccoons and rats?
nice build but you should drill some small holes in the bottom cap to drain water.
I liked your video thx for sharing I think this kind of gravity feeders is what should be using in some areas of my lease
nice video we got one of those we made and they work great.
I made 2 of these, put up some trail cams to see what happens and the deer do use it when the raccoons let them. 95% of the feed fed raccoons.
