18 yrs old in 1986..best time ever...best music ever...and the Cult is one the best bands ever...living it up as a mod surfer in Hawaii, then moving to London and Cambridge 88-92...best time ever!
I was 17 and working at Sound Warehouse in Dallas. *The Cult's* _Love_ had an immediacy that added color to my, till then, Metal palette and enriched my musical landscape.
Anytime the Cult came on the Radio I would crank it up. This Band was so under rated. Their straight up Rock sound is timeless. Good Songwriting lasts forever that's the name of the game and a Great singer helps a lot too!
@cyborg1320 I think the idea is that a lot of music from Era X sounds strange/dated/ bizarre outside of Era X, but not this. There's no comparison to today's pop music.
I think maybe the statement is when “the music industry” preferred talent and substance over image. There is certainly great music available, it’s just not out front on display as it was up until the 90’s. Which I don’t really have a problem with because the independent bands I like don’t charge more than $50 a ticket or play in stadiums. Clutch, Lionize, the Sword, to name a few.
*-Even with autotune, the voice of this man is amazing, The Cult sincerely revived the eighties hard rock and the seventies sounded hard, fast and clean, an impeccable voice, a hard drums, a iconic guitar,And what to say about the rest of the band, honestly it will be hard to see someone like that again....Rock on.*
@Jeffrey Quinn - if it wasn’t for MTV, back when they actually played music videos, I probably would have never heard of the Cult until Firewoman was released.
1986: I was 31 and on my LAST & FINAL (& successful) TRY to finish university. Life doesn’t get any more optimistic than that, I’ll tell you, when you’re at a beer bash, listening to this song, and you just got a passing grade in Thermodynamics II, four hours earlier! 😎😁😎😁😎
Saw them playing a few years ago at the Del Mar race track in San Diego. Open air, free show. They still got it. The beer was flowing and the crowd was groovin!!
Yeah, I remember when I saw the official video to this song I was thinking with a name like The Cult they should be a Metal/Hard Rock band and then they morphed into one.
I’ve had a bad crush on Ian since I was like fifteen... omg the first time I seen him on MTV I was like wtf???? There are no guys in my town or state that makes me feel so funny inside. I still think he’s so pretty. I love him, Jim Morrison and Micheal Hutchence. I’m so glad Ian is still with us handling his business. Peace and love Ian... don’t go anywhere... the world needs you... 😛
incredible... so f*ing rockin' I had the privilege to see Ian head up the Doors 2000 (something like that) and WHAT a job he did... all the persona of Jim not to mention Jagger or Plant.. Ian had it all.
I saw that same show when it came to my town of St.Louis. I think it was at the Fox Theater if I’m remembering correctly. I stayed sober because it was so good I didn’t want to leave my seat to buy a beer the entire time.
Oh the memories of The Cult, high school, girls, cars and getting pissed at parties and then having to turn up at school the next day with massive hangovers. We used to go to our geography teachers house across the road after school and smoke joints listening to The Cult. I think if my memory serves me right, I had a small bro crush on Billy too...
Memphis TN - Sonic Temple tour '86, first concert ever - had to camp out in the CATS parking lot all night before. SO amazing three guys could put out that much sound!
The first time I heard that song was on a channel called U-68 which no longer exists but was before MTV. Me and my brother r.i.p. absolutely loved this song and Rain.
I just saw these guys before covid19 went nuts....They sounded great and I caught a pick tossed from Billy Duffy. I can’t wait to have a fun night like that again.
when i first heard this in the mid 80's on KNAC out of Long Beach, CA , it was the first "fresh" rock I had heard in years; it actually reminded me of Zeppelin and to that point nothing ever captured Zep's sound but The Cult sure came close for a minute.
@@rolfbernserke4735 Went to school with Ian from grade 7 to 11 before they moved back to the UK. Cant remember what his dad did for a living (as we didnt hang around outside of school) but his work stint only last for 5 years and they moved again. Yes great band live in the early days. Changes nothing of my snarky comment tho. 😉
That guitar. It’s timeless.
Billy is awesome
Yes! I love this song! I won't ever tire of listening to it! Ian is so so beautiful 😍 💖
I fuckin LOVE IT
@@sandrafisherhayes3219 I'm 57 now, but when I was young Ian was for me the most beautiful man in the world. I had a crush on him

You have to feel sorry for modern country fans, millennials, and other people that rock'n'roll forgot.
Nah this is that part of the 80's you want to forget, the flake music.
I was 17 and working at Sound Warehouse in Dallas. *The Cult's* _Love_ had an immediacy that added color to my, till then, Metal palette and enriched my musical landscape.
I agree!!
i beat your 59 now

I never get tired of hearing Ian sing this song 💓. The Cult is an amazing group of handsome men and fabulous talent.
Take it easy ....You'll hurt yourself. Lol
I feel this song has aged so well still feels like it could be released today.
are you kidding me? they dont make music like this anymore
@@AJax8588 likewise 👍
@cyborg1320 I think the idea is that a lot of music from Era X sounds strange/dated/ bizarre outside of Era X, but not this. There's no comparison to today's pop music.
I agree
Quality music, gets you motivated.
One of the best songs ever created. Fact. You cannot be in a bad mood while listening to this tune. Try it.
The entire Love album is fantastic....every song is great... this one of course along with Rain and Revolution really stand out....
I was 21 Y old. Best time of my life. I miss the 80's, best music ever.
31, otherwise, same
Took a girlfriend to see the Cult in Houston & to my surprise who opened? Guns N Roses, that was a great concert, love the Cult.
Saw that tour in Seattle!
Same but in vancouver
When was that? 1987? That mustve been killer!
OMG!!!
LOVE is in my top 5 all time...every song was a killer! Played it almost non-stop in '88 freshman year in college.
How i used to love this group. God i miss the 80s. Would lovevto be 18 again if i could know what i know now
Billy Duffy is highly underrated
This song never gets old
What a powerful song. Full energy!.. One of the most great voces. And underrated singer
Love the cult. Ian's voice is so powerful. He's amazing. Hotter than hell. The whole band are totally awesome. They rock!
this is true kim brydone
True...But lip syncing this one!
You ever heard him live can't sing
Before the music died, we had bands like this.
Music has not died, and it never will.
Playing full playback? What's so superior about that?
Music is not dying anytime soon lol
I think maybe the statement is when “the music industry” preferred talent and substance over image.

Music is still going strong don't worry your boomer head about it.
Love this. Love Ian. Love the fact its pre- mobile phone,so the crowd are enjoying it & not filming like static zombies.
Max 820 thank you so true whatever happened to pure appreciation
you got the perfect words.
greetings from Argentina!!
Max 820 Yep. Enjoying the music and the experience! 👍
Its lip synch..nothing worth filming

Look this up...1986 on Countdown...pretty cool stuff

Ian never used AutoTune. He'd beat you senseless for suggesting it.
Lmao there is no autotune you moron
@edisonmustainethrash6662 Dude, get your F ears checked. This isnt even live lol
Autotune existed back in 1985??? This a mimed performance.
An incredible band, one of the highlights of the 80s.
One of my all time favorite songs!
One of my all-time fave songs along with Edie, Ciao Baby.
"Here comes the rain, here she comes again ..."
Now every time I hear the Edie song... I think Erectile Dysfunction - you can thank me later.
I prefer Sweet Soul Sister + Edie to this, though it is still good.
Great call
Wildflower rocks.
Great tune. I like how Billy miraculously plays the electric lead and acoustic guitar parts AT THE SAME TIME!
The man is just that good!
Right ? This certainly is live
Oh such good times. I followed them around on tour in 85 while supposed to be at uni. Life changing. Love is still my go to album.
It’s already planned
This will be blasted at my funeral
One of the greatest intros ever.
I miss the 80's and early 90's really bad. Thank you for this video.
Remember you would sit by the radio with a cassette tape in and your 2 fingers on the play and record button? These are the songs you waited for.
One of the best Songs That year and a top ten for that decade , still sounds great 👍
And mostly ignored by American commercial radio outside of a few larger cities.
@Jeffrey Quinn - if it wasn’t for MTV, back when they actually played music videos, I probably would have never heard of the Cult until Firewoman was released.
Fortunately I had an older sister at uni in Toronto at the time.
Yeah, too bad it's lip synced.
Official music videos usually are.
Classic song. Doesn't get any better.
Duffy hit a home run way back when with that set of riffs for the hook!!! Iconic!!
Probably one of the most underrated groups ever
They're up there for me, too. Them and Soul Asylum and the Gin Blossoms
Saw the cult a year or so ago in a small but great venue called The Rialto in Tucson, AZ....they still bring it 💯
The Rialto still off of Speedway?

THIS SONG STILL GETS THE ALTERNATIVE DANCE FLOOR MOVING.

The best band ever, i got to see them back in the day and they are great live !!!!
Possibly my favorite band. Hope to see them live again someday
Great band and song. Still holds up.
This track has been my favorite since
I first heard it
Thanks man...
Good luck...
Great group, was 19 at the time and still love their songs. Proper bands that played instruments and not rely on some dance moves and a wobbly voice.
i was 35 when this came out and it restored my faith in pop music
So iconic!!!
Awesome band Ian Ashbury is an amazing singer
Billy Duffy is one of few artists who can rock a scarf!
Stefan Grabenstetter technically it’s an ascot
Billy could rock anything Stefan. He looks so cool here though. He even got away with wearing an Iron Cross in some performances !!
Some of the sweetest 80s guitar
this timeless still really a kick ass song! 👍👍👍👍😜🤣👍👍👍👍👍🤗👍!!
I had forgotten how "new wave" their look and initial presence was compared to their later success! Classic 80s, baby 🤘😎🤘
Yeah, I remember when I saw the official video to this song I was thinking with a name like The Cult they should be a Metal/Hard Rock band and then they morphed into one.
Has been in the top 5 of my favorite bands. He reminds me of a rocked-up Jim Morrison of The Doors.
I saw them that same year at the Santa Monica civic with TSOL, Tex and the horse heads, and some other punk rock acts.

too bad I'm gone by the 10 second mark when they lip sync

Simon James Young Live Rock.
One the best voice of rock ..
Best song of the 80's!!!!
I always thought that he was singing: Break my back, break my backbone
lmao hahahaha
I’m going to learn this tune! Thanks for sharing
Great guitar riff, When something is great and simple it is known as elegant.

Such a GREAT SONG ..... FROM A FANTASTIC TIME 🙏❤️
Brilliant.
Best 'single hit' drum intro ever perhaps....
Les Warner...hardest hitting drummer I've ever seen. Had a band here in Las Vegas in the early 2000s...The Limey Barstewarts...
Great song....back in the day was so much fun.
ive seen the cult once and the doors of the 21st century twice when ian fronted them killer shows 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Bloody hell! They’re all looking so damned good looking. Ian has better hair than most women. Damned hot!
This song has some serious staying power. I was 13 in 86'.
I was 24 in 86, same age as Ian. Love She Sells Sanctuary! Still gives me the chills even now! It's got that TQ factor ❤❤
Duffy looks like a Rock King here. Which he clearly knew he was.
Solid Gold guitar work in this one.

F’n epic! Thank you! Crank this up as loud as the speakers will tolerate... One of my fav drummers. Don’t know what happened to him. Miss ya LW!
Les Warner Lived here in Las Vegas at least into the early 2000s...fantastic drummer.
That’s awesome! Just read the wiki bio. Don’t believe most of that crap. Good to hear he’s all good. One of the reasons I try to play drums.
